Spotify has released its' top 50 streams for the period Dec. 16th-22nd. It shows "Say Something" surging by about 240,000, and "Timber" losing about 300,000. Could be an interesting race to #1 in the next few weeks.

Saying someone should be using her tactic to move albums is like comparing everyone to Adele. It's just one of those unique things that cannot be done by everybody.

In the meantime, Miley Cyrus is doing an incredible marketing strategy all her own. I'll just leave my earlier post here:

I don't think the same strategy will work for every artist. Miley's strategy just so happens to be working for her. If the music is no good or no one likes the music or the music can't find an audience for whatever reason, no amount of marketing would make people buy it.

If  she's really doing this of her own free will then great. But her last video was done by the creepy Terry Richardson so it makes me wonder if it's worth it just to sell a few records.  Down the road will she be telling stories like the 19 year old who complained about him making her do things  she later regretted. He's got a rep as a sexual  predator with many perversions (like asking a model to take out her tampon so he could play with it). He's apparently quite persuasive in getting young women to do things & make them think it was their idea. Even Girls star Lena Dunham recently weighed in on him and having regrets over it and learning  the value of saying no.

Yeah, this happens a lot in pop music. Not just with music videos, but with lyric-writing, production, etc, as well.

At university they were saying if you're ever in a recording session with a pop star, and you have an idea for the song that you think the pop star will reject, don't tell them the idea, but instead give them little hints that will lead them to come up with the same idea that you have. The pop star will be unlikely to reject the idea if they think they came up with it themselves.

He's apparently quite persuasive in getting young women to do things & make them think it was their idea. Even Girls star Lena Dunham recently weighed in on him and having regrets over it and learning  the value of saying no.    

That's just one video. Her entire era is being built on her antics. If what you're saying was the case for Miley, I think her antics would have extended past just the music. Plus, in several interviews both before and after "Wrecking Ball," you can tell, with absolute certainty, she has a very good head on her shoulders.

I don't doubt her sensibility but she's in the music business with lots of music execs who'll push you to do anything to sell your music. Sinead O'Connor was pushy with her letter but she wasn't wrong.
