Whoops, also forgot September 12th has also never had a newly-crowned number #1 song. My folks got married on Sept. 12, 1970, when "War" by Edwin Starr nabbed a third and final week at No. 1. That's interesting! I like to think of important life events in perspective of what song was #1 when I was born, when I graduated high school, etc. My parents got married on June 15, 1991, the exact date that "Rush, Rush" by Paula Abdul began its five-week reign at #1.

Was there a chart for that date in 1980? Nope. January 12.

Jan. 11, 1980 was a Friday. And due to 1980 being a leap year, the following Jan. 11 was on a Sunday. In that case, Rupert Holmes returned to #1 that week with "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)".

I think the strange updates are from all the year-end countdowns.

MAROON 5 – One More Night: 21.137 (+ 1.588)
LOL, are they doing 2012 countdowns again? I figure it's mostly due to AC returning to "regular" programming but I heard OMN on my Pop station Saturday.

OMN was still quite big at the beginning of the year. It makes sense if it places towards the lower end of a lot of countdowns given how long it lingered around. Especially if some countdowns include December 2012 play.
Whereas STIUTK was a spring/summer 2012 hit, too early to still be big in early 2013.

It's the year-end countdowns and, as someone noted, AC radio returning to regular play for non-holiday tracks. "Roar" currently is No. 1 on the seven-day-rolling AC chart, and has the biggest weekly spin increase. Others benefiting big from AC returning to regular play are, in terms of audience, "Brave," "Love Somebody," "Royals," "Just Give Me a Reason," "Gone Gone Gone," "Mirrors" and "Wake Me Up."

So Wake Me Up and Roar are obviously going be top 10, I wonder if anything will get strong enough airplay to hit the chart again (JGMAR?)

I'm not sure if I'm just missing it on the list or what, but does anyone have the updates for "Thrift Shop" or "Can't Hold Us"?

Airplay gap between The Monster and Counting Stars is getting really small. OneRepublic could pull this out this week.

Radio needs to drop Counting stars and The Monster and put Timber in power rotation. I mean, the public wants Timber to hit #1 already. They need to respect what the general public wants. The monster doesn't deserve to be #1 anymore, because it should be #1 on itunes not #4. I think that Billboard should take notes from the UK billboard. 1 Pitbull - Timber (feat. Ke$ha) 1.0000 4 Eminem - The Monster (feat. Rihanna) 0.6919

Of course, you didn't intend to leave off TM's second version, which has been in Top 30, now 37 at .2089, which puts it at #2 combined and not that big of a gap.

You actually think that radio programmers should go in lockstep with iTunes? Maybe the Voice and X-Factor finalists should be getting weekly radio audience levels of 160 million???

You actually think that radio programmers should go in lockstep with iTunes? Maybe the Voice and X-Factor finalists should be getting weekly radio audience levels of 160 million??? But they only last 2 or 3 days on Itunes, while Timber has several weeks on top and has overshadowed The monster and Counting stars with less airplay all this time on itunes, so what's wrong with radio? Timber should be getting the biggest updates not these poor updates. Timber made the top 4 on itunes with 30 million AI, even with less airplay than Dark Horse and Counting stars, so obviously people is here for Timber. If Timber was behind its competition on itunes, I wouldn't be complaining like this, but Timber has outlasted the Voice/X factor/Say something/Counting stars/The monster/Beyonce/Bieber's songs on itunes/Amazon. It has prevailed despite everything, so deserves better airplay.

...the song is top 10 in total airplay, and it's not the type of song that would get the airplay-suck level of rotation anyway because it's so much in line with what has been played the past three years.

why counting stars? people wants CS too.you can understand it by looking at digital, streaming and it's airplay consistency.timber is #2 because it's youtube video! and don't compare timber with THE MONSTER!

Doing this early because I'll be busy later tonight and tomorrow.
And now it's time to once again take a look back at the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 singles of exactly 55, 50, 45, and 40 years ago this week.
January 5, 1959 (for week ending January 11, 1959)

For whatever reason, the year 1974 (and the following year 1975) had a record number of songs hit the top of the chart. During the year no less than 35 songs would hit #1, more than any other year that had come before. This was no doubt greatly due to the sheer number of songs that only hit #1 for a single, solitary week during 1974. The first of these, "The Joker," which was also the first #1 by popular 70's and 80's artist, the Steve Miller Band, came early in the year when it topped the chart for the week ending January 12, 1974.
January 12, 1974
TW LW WK 01 02 13 The Joker - Steve Miller Band (1 week at #1) 02 01 09 Time In A Bottle - Jim Croce 03 05 13 Show And Tell - Al Wilson 04 06 12 Smokin' In The Boys Room - Brownsville Station 05 10 08 I've Got To Use My Imagination - Gladys Knight & The Pips 06 16 05 You're Sixteen - Ringo Starr 07 08 12 Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up - Barry White 08 09 10 Living For The City - Stevie Wonder 09 13 09 Let Me Be There - Olivia Newton-John 10 12 08 Helen Wheels - Paul McCartney & Wings

What is so special about Timber? it sounds like every other Pitbull song, and he is quite boring to my ears. I would rather Counting Stars be #1. I am glad I have my own charts, because Timber along with about 50% of the other songs are not on my chart.

I like that one Pitbull song where he mentions Dade county and calls himself Mr. Worldwide.
