I hate to say it, but I think everything's falling into place for Timber to be #1 this week.

I doubt that it will be top 30 anymore in its 72nd week but it will probably break the record as it'll hover around top 40 for several weeks. On the other hand, "Sail" won't probably break Mraz's record. It climbed less than I expected last week. first of all it was Joseph's post (the quote thing acts weird sometimes) It should be around #22 - #24 next week And I'd put it at around #30-34 the next week Because it should go back to about #25-35 on iTunes next week And sail won't break the record. Radioactive has ranked higher than sail every week in 2013. Sail is one of those songs with not so much recognition and, if you asked 100 random people if they have heard that song, more than 50 of them would probably say no, so it wouldn't really make sense for it to hold that record, know what I mean? That's how I feel at least.

It's sold over 4,000,000. I'd say definitely more than 10% of people (in the US) would know it.

Considering the best selling digital song ever has about 8 million in sales, 4 million is quite a large amount.

Well that's because it has been around a lot longer than songs like Roar for example...I just don't think Sail screams "hit" so much so I don't think it would make sense for a song that is not as well known as a lot of the songs on the chart to hold a Billboard Hot 100 record.

I am not sure I would say it doesn't make sense for it to hold a record-Billboard is going by numbers and not gauging the much more subjective what "feels" like a bigger or more well-known hit. However, beyond that I do agree that Sail was a big hit, but not a hit that seems high profile or like it would be automatically remembered.

Yeah...Radioactive - someone tells a random person that this is the record holder, the person will be like "oh yeah I'm quite familiar with that song" vs. Sail - "that holds the record? Weird, I don't think I've even heard that one before" or even if they do know it "hmm, I think I know it but it doesn't really seem like that big of a song, hard to believe it holds a record" because it's mostly only people that pay a lot of attention to sleeper/non-mainstream hits that would immediately recall this song...doesn't really seem like much of a song to stand out among others if you know what I mean.

Roar still gaining, lol... Roar is gaining because it is #1 at AC radio. All those Xmas songs are dropping and the "current" songs are reclimbing. AC radio is so behind the times!
