Why not count the songs that people hum at work everyday? Can we track it? We can make them Nielsen families!

We can make them Nielsen families! There is no way to track what you are suggesting. Additionally, it's not relevant to the discussion of radio being relegated to TV status...since there is better data on what users seek to listen to and actually do listen to.

Is any measure perfect though? Digital Songs doesn't take into effect album sales, which hurts song chart positions for artists like Adele or Eminem. I don't think it would hurt Adele at all. Rolling in the deep is the second best selling digital song of all time and someone like you is over 5 million while set fire to the rain is over 4 million

Happy Birthday would be the #1 song every week for the rest of eternity.

So Radioactive is going to have like 80 weeks in the chart now with the grammy performance and wins.

It depends.
The gap between the end of the show and the cutoff date was just a couple hours, that may or may not be enough
It it falls out of the top 50, it goes recurrent

I'm very skeptical of if they actually do it for every song, but since "Radioactive" should be rebounding a lot from this I expect they would.

At least so far, we haven't seen a lot of songs bouncing in and out of the low 40s. I might be wrong but the re-entry rule might not apply to the same chart run.

OK - just haven't seen that before in the 2 years that the rule has been in place. I would have thought there would have been more instances of songs that gradually decline such as this, bounce in and out. If it happens, this would be a first

I think I read or someone said before that once a song falls out of the top 50 and goes recurrent, a small increase in points, enough to make top 50 again, won't push it back on the chart. This is to prevent just that, songs re-entering over and over. However, a large enough increase in points will let it re-enter.

Right but this will be a massive increase in points and it's from another version that the record company released to promote the record.

^ Katy's slaying the US Vevo. Dark Horse gets another week at #2 without a video, and Roar is STILL charting so high!

There are quite a few new big names comin with singles. Hopefully the charts will start turning around. I am hoping for Hunter Hayes , yet I think the low class trash single "girls" by Jennifer Lopez is gonna be the big hit. I would love to see Kylie back in the charts with "Into the blue" but she never gets promoted here in the states anymore. The new ZEDD song is great here's to a third hit single.

I haven't heard the song but considering how everything post-'On The Floor' has performed I wouldn't bet on a JLo track becoming a big hit.

The new J.LO song should be sung by a 20 something...not an over the hill 40 something. Listen to the lyrics. I understand she is trying to appeal to the younger music listeners, but she is old news just like Mariah, Madonna, even Britney.

I doubt Radioactive will drop out of the top 50 this week...2 equally severe plummets in a row are unlikely for a song like that which has been on for almost a year and a half...it should be able to maintain a position from 46-50 this week, just in time for it to be able to rebound from post-Grammy sales/streaming drive and beat Jason Mraz's record!

Yea... Think about your own (grand)mother singing about girls having fun and you get the idea of how public will react.

However, if it drops as many positions as last week, then it's done. That was what I meant.
