Dark Horse with yet another huge update! I think it's safe to predict already even though it's the beginning of the week that Dark Horse will be #1 on the Hot 100 again, without having sales, streaming and radio done for the week xD

With the exceptions of "All of Me" and "Happy" (which have more to do with their respective artists' history and style than the songs themselves) the songs you list range from "slight influence" to "no way in hell" in terms of being R&B imo. |

Curious point: How many of those r&b songs listed are performing well on r&b mainstream radio?
I was scanning that chart a week or so ago and was only familiar with about one or two songs, a complete role reversal from ten or even twenty years ago.
It is as if CHR / iTunes / the Streaming community et al is finding its own r&b super-hits outside of the confines of r&b radio playlists. (relying on superstar name power, award show performances or viral sensations).
This r&b annexation is a real throwback to the 1980s norm.

"Suit & Tie", "Blurred Lines", "Hold On, We're Going Home", all R&B songs that were huge on Urban radio and crossed over to pop. "Drunk in Love" will also join them.
The genre has definitely made a huge comeback in the last year.

Sales can spike from 15%-all the way to 100%+ after the Grammys. Even the small margin of time between the showing and the end of the tracking period showed significant increases. |
