CHR goes through weird cycles where it will play Country hits; Most recently its been on a case by case basis, but Lord, in the 70s and early 80s you couldn't escape Nashville on Top 40.

Top 40 plays country very scarcely, and when it does, it's with a "pop" mix/edit. Back in the 70s and 80s, there were no pop mixes/edits (as far as I know). That pretty much came to a halt somewhere around the mid-80s, though- weren't really any big country/pop hits.

"Yoncé" is LIFE, and is sooo important to the track in the context of the album. But will uninitiated radio listeners be confused by hearing both parts, when they almost sound like different songs? When it comes down to it, though, I neeeed for millions of people to hear that rap. I just need it.

"Happy" is performing better on iTunes and is exploding in a way that no other song is--so why single out Beyonce when he's also beating Katy Perry, Lorde, etc. with his recent updates? And what does that even say about anything other than "Happy" is gaining radio play at a more rapid amount than any other song? It's not like Pharrell is some nobody either--he's been a part of some of the biggest songs of the past year.

To be fair Bey sold nearly 2million albums so presumably nearly 2million copies have already been sold of DIL. That is muting the sales effect. Additionally, people are listening to DIL more when left to their own to pick what they want to hear they listen to DIL....thats why radio is an increasingly less accurate indicator of popularity.

Thats not true either unless popular acts remain poplar and if the keep material out constantly... Which doesnt allow room for progression.

Tell that to Adele, who went Diamond and had three #1 singles. America is huge, and 2 million album buyers are not going to 'mute' the sales of the single.

That was Adele's real breakthrough, though, so it may not be the best comparison. No other album has come remotely close to the sales of 21 in recent years.

2 made for pop songs vs. an urban song that pop radio has barely touched so far... A bit different circumstances. Not to mention Beyonce has never been a big single seller.

Adele is an anomaly, and should never be used to prove ones point.
Bey is doing very well, especially for an urban track.
She just broke the urban radio spins record.

Billboard Who do you think will take the No. 1 spot from Katy Perry next week?
Are they anticipating a new #1 next week?
