Album and Digital singles have been down year over year and pharell does not have an album out yet. Adele wasnt #1 right away either it took a few months for RITD to catch on.... The bottom line is that DIL is getting far and away more spins when the general public is demanding the music on their own with out the politics of radio getting in the way of their consumption.

Name a current one? Dont say Katy beyonce was able to outsell Katys 1.5 months worth of album sales in a week. Most of the recent hits come from artists who are singles sellers. Bey is getting people to watch the video in its entirety and selling albums and selling singles too. The demand is there radio is slow to match the consumer demand.

So Urban radio and Rhythmic radio is driving people to buy DIL and buy Beyonce when these same people normally only buy albums. Imagine if Pop played DIL and it was in the top 20 at the format? Its believable that DIL would be competing for #1 on the HOT 100 right now.

Why would say something be #2?

Well DIL sure as hell won't be #2 this week...& SS has a big enough advantage over Happy and Talk Dirty in radio and streaming and not enough of a disadvantage in sales so it will be higher than the two (just this week) and there are really no other contenders for #2 this week. DH will surely have a 40-50% lead over the #2 song this week.

I think "Happy" will be above "Say Something." The airplay gap will be down to 10-15 million AI Mediabase (5-10 BDS), "Happy" is currently selling ~2x "Say Something" so will have a 50k-100k lead in sales most likely, and streaming will continue to shrink. Last week in streaming, SS fell 4-7 and Happy rose 27-15. SS should remain ahead this week, most likely, but the gap will have shrunk considerably.

The week ending February 22, 1964, the Beatles made Billboard Hot 100 chart history. Their second song in the Billboard top 10, "She Loves You," moved into the #2 position right behind "I Want To Hold Your Hand" which was in its 4th week at #1; giving them the #1 and #2 songs on the chart, something that no other artist had accomplished since Elvis Presley in 1956.

As impressive as this was, the Beatles would shortly accomplish something even more incredible.

It hit #1 in end of November (if it's on its 12th week at #1 in February) and the song came out in end of August so it's 3 months...

In my university, the C&D coffee shop for engineering students like me had the radio on what I believe was an AC station and I heard Wake Me Up on this station around October (back when it was my favorite song)...is it really still gaining in AC? :s
