I'd love (and believe its still likely even if by a little bit) for Katy to get 4 weeks at #1. Beyond obviously 'Happy' is in the fast lane going 100 mph for #1 very, very soon. While 4 weeks or so is great and will end up a bigger hit than Roar, if its wasn't for 'Happy' its likely she wouldve had her longest #1. Watch her end up staying at #2 (behind 'Happy') for like 10 weeks lol :/ Katy has has this week and next week on lock so 4 weeks are for sure. Hopefully the video will give it a big push in sales and in streaming so it can stay more Yes. The *video* is really the key/firewall and only hope for it possibly get 5+ weeks. If its better than decent or even great it could 'possibly' squeak an extra week or two due to the streaming. But just based on airplay and sales alone, 'Happy' is def. getting #1 w/ a 'Blurred Lines' vengeance.

"Happy" is up to #2. ----------------------------- Katy Perry Rules Hot 100, Pharrell flies to No. 2Perry's "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J, spends a third week at No. 1, while Pharrell's "Happy" hikes 8-2 Katy Perry's "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J, notches a third week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Pharrell's "Happy" blasts from No. 8 to No. 2. As we do each Wednesday, let's happily scrutinize the numbers behind the Hot 100's top 10. Perry's ninth Hot 100 No. 1 (and Juicy J's first) maintains its command, aided by a 3-2 lift on the Radio Songs airplay chart with an 11% gain to 132 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS. The track tops Digital Songs for a fifth week, although with a 22% decline to 291,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan; with Perry having performed the song on the Grammy Awards, broadcast on CBS on Jan. 26, it benefited on last week's charts from a full week of post-Grammy buzz. This week, it and other songs performed at the Grammys regress following last week's spike. "Horse" crowns the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart (3 million U.S. streams, down 6%, according to BDS) for a fifth week and holds at No. 3 on Streaming Songs (which it led two weeks ago) with 6.6 million streams (down 12%). While "Horse" crosses the Hot 100's finish line first again, Pharrell's "Happy" is galloping fast on its tail, roaring 8-2 with dual Digital and Airplay Gainer honors. The latter track climbs 3-2 on Digital Songs (252,000, up 15%) and 15-10 on Radio Songs (85 million, up 45%). "Happy" marks Pharrell's eighth Radio Songs top 10 and second as a lead act; "Frontin'," featuring Jay Z, reached No. 5 in 2003. "Happy" concurrently climbs 15-11 on Streaming Songs (3.7 million, up 14%) and rises 3-1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs to become his third No. 1, and first as a lead artist, on the ranking. Pharrell momentum is clearly surging. The wearer of Pharrell's hat sang Daft Punk's record of the year-winning "Get Lucky" at the Grammys, and now "Happy," first released on the "Despicable Me 2" soundtrack in June, serves as the lead single from his forthcoming second studio album. The song has garnered added exposure in Beats by Dre ads; is nominated for best original song at this year's Oscars, where he'll perform it (on March 2); and, as announced today, is part of Fiat's new global ad campaign, starring Diddy. Could "Happy" be a contender for No. 1 on the Hot 100? It seems a solid possibility. But, while "Horse" drops by 12% in overall points and "Happy" hikes by 21%, "Horse" still boasts a fairly comfortable 30% points lead over the latter atop the chart. Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty," featuring 2 Chainz, likewise enters the Hot 100's top three, rising 4-3. It backtracks 2-3 on Digital Songs but with a 3% gain to 242,000; pushes 5-4 on Streaming Songs (5.9 million, up 16%); and charges 19-17 on Radio Songs (59 million, up 13%). "Dirty" has been boosted by its "Celebrities Talkin' Dirty" trailer video, featuring artists including Robin Thicke, Flo Rida and Ariana Grande, with One Direction also having posted a clip dancing to it. A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera's "Say Something" rebounds from No. 7 back to its No. 4 Hot 100 highpoint. It wins the top Streaming Gainer nod, rumbling 7-2 on Streaming Songs (6.7 million, up 31%) after YouTube user Mark Blitch filmed his 4-year-old son Jackson, who was brought to tears by the powerful ballad. The clip of the youngster experiencing his perhaps most emotional moment to date went viral after its posting on Jan. 29, having accumulated 2.7 global views so far. "Say" also rises 6-5 on Digital Songs (171,000, up 12%) and bullets for a second week at No. 9 on Radio Songs (92 million, up 4%). Benefiting from its synch in Budweiser's heartstring-tugging ad between horse and puppy pals that aired during Fox's broadcast of the Super Bowl (Feb. 2), Passenger's "Let Her Go" reaches the Hot 100's top five (6-5) in its 28th chart week. It rises 5-4 on Digital Songs (182,000, up 3%) and 8-7 on Streaming Songs (5.3 million, up 9%). (As noted last week, any U.S. streams for the commercial, which premiered online prior to its Super Bowl spotlight, however, do not count toward Billboard charts, as the video clip on YouTube is not categorized under the music banner from which streams are reported.) "Go" keeps its bullet as it holds at No. 8 on Radio Songs (93 million, up 3%) and rules Hot Rock Songs for a fifth week. Pitbull's former three-week Hot 100 No. 1 "Timber," featuring Ke$ha, falls 3-6, while OneRepublic's No. 2-peaking "Counting Stars" drops 5-7 (and tops Radio Songs for a fourth week; 141 million, down less than 1%). Last week, Beyonce rocketed 13-2 on the Hot 100 with "Drunk in Love" (featuring Jay Z), which she performed as the Grammy Awards' opening song. This week, it retreats to No. 8, although it spends a third week at No. 1 on Streaming Songs (6.7 million, down 29%) and stays its No. 14 peak to date on Radio Songs (76 million, 11%). It drops from its No. 7 peak on Digital Songs to No. 13 (98,000, down 35%). Lorde's "Team" rises 10-9 on the Hot 100 (after reaching No. 8 three weeks ago), highlighted by a 5-3 push on Radio Songs (112 million, up 12%). Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Bastille's "Pompeii" returns to the region, and its No. 10 peak, after a week at No. 11. The former four-week Alternative Songs No. 1 rises 9-7 on Digital Songs (131,000, down 6%), 12-11 on Radio Songs (83 million, up 11%) and 14-13 on Streaming Songs (3.3 million, down 5%).

2.7 views eh. Sounds like two parents and their child really enjoy the video :) The clip of the youngster experiencing his perhaps most emotional moment to date went viral after its posting on Jan. 29, having accumulated 2.7 global views so far.

I don't get how a song can be #1 on streaming, like Drunk in Love, but only #13 on Digital Songs. Ok, so millions of people are listening to the song for free on sites like youtube and yet most of them are not willing to actually buy it, is that it?

Ok, so millions of people are listening to the song for free on sites like youtube and yet most of them are not willing to actually buy it, is that it? Every song is a different situation. In Beyonce's case, she hasn't sent DIL to CHR/pop yet, and that's the biggest market for single sales, so she's letting go of some potentially huge sales there. Meanwhile, urban hits usually sell the most poorly of any genre (that she is hanging on in the top 15 digitally is actually kind of remarkable in light of that). The sales she has gotten are coming mostly from media word of mouth and the Grammys exposure, quite different from Pharrell for example, who pop and urban/rhythmic airplay, along with word of mouth. Not to mention Bey has the rare kind of urban stronghold where if people like her songs, they just go out and buy the album. That's where her selling power really lies; getting big pop hits takes a lot of work most times. It seemingly requires so little effort for her to get the album sales that I can see why she or her label might figure it's not worth the hassle of trying to get the single hits down on paper.

The band's smash equals the 76-week chart life of Jason Mraz's 'I'm Yours' in 2008-09. Meanwhile, AWOLNATION's 'Sail' posts its 75th week on the chart
Imagine Dragons tie a vaunted Billboard Hot 100 record this week, as "Radioactive" logs its 76th week on the survey. The sum ties the mark established by Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" in 2008-09. "Radioactive" ranks at No. 23 on the Hot 100, down from No. 13 last week when it surged following the band's performance of the song with Kendrick Lamar at the Grammy Awards on Jan. 26. (The version with Lamar accounted for 73% of the song's digital sales last week [208,000], according to Nielsen SoundScan; this week, it makes up 46% of its 74,000 sold.) Considering its position on the chart, the song looks likely to break Mraz's mark next week. Notably, neither "Radioactive" nor "I'm Yours" topped the Hot 100. They peaked at Nos. 3 and 6, respectively. (The latter still holds the record for the most consecutive chart weeks, with its entire 76-week run. "Radioactive" debuted at No. 93 the week of Aug. 18, 2012, and dropped to No. 98 the following frame. It returned on Sept. 29, 2012, and has remained on the list since, hitting its No. 3 highpoint the week of Aug. 3, 2013.) How has "Radioactive" managed such chart longevity? In part, it's crossed from rock to adult and pop radio over months. It topped Alternative Songs for 13 weeks beginning in March 2013. It segued to a No. 2 peak on Adult Pop Songs in August and also reached No. 2 on Pop Songs in December. "My feeling is that the song has a formula that isn't common at pop radio," Jet Black, PD of Pop Songs reporter KHTT Tulsa, Okla., told Billboard in July. "Our format was inundated with 132 beats-per-minute rhythmic records, as well as a handful of singer/songwriter types. But … there was nothing in the middle." "'Radioactive' is a little alternative, a little pop, a little dubstep … the best of three big genres. A perfect storm, so to speak." The song has sold 6.6 million downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Meanwhile, AWOLNATION's "Sail" (No. 41) notches a 75th week on the Hot 100, moving to within one week of Imagine Dragons' and Mraz's record longevity. "Sail" peaked at No. 17 in October. Retrace the similar steady growth of "Sail" here. Upon the songs' latest landmark frames this week, here's an updated look at the 10 longest-charting entries in the Hot 100's 55-year history: Weeks, Title, Artist, Peak, Pos., Year 76, "Radioactive," Imagine Dragons, No. 3, 2013* 76, "I'm Yours," Jason Mraz, No. 6, 2008 75, "Sail," AWOLNATION, No. 17, 2013* 69, "How Do I Live," LeAnn Rimes, No. 2, 1997 68, "Party Rock Anthem," LMFAO featuring Lauren Bennett & GoonRock, No. 1, 2011 65, "Rolling in the Deep," Adele, No. 1, 2011 65, "You Were Meant for Me"/"Foolish Games," Jewel, No. 2, 1997 64, "Before He Cheats," Carrie Underwood, No. 8, 2007 62, "Ho Hey," the Lumineers, No. 3, 2012 62, "You and Me," Lifehouse, No. 5, 2005 *Currently charting As "Radioactive" grants Imagine Dragons a share of Hot 100 history, the band has since released two follow-up singles from their debut album "Night Visions," the top title on Billboard's 2013 year-end Top Rock Albums recap. ("Radioactive" also finished as the year-end Hot Rock Songs No. 1, while the group reigned as 2013's top rock act.) "Demons" ranks at No. 16 on the Hot 100 (after reaching No. 6 in December), while new single "On Top of the World" rises 100-93 in its second chart week.

In a way Sail is the more impressive record as it's not getting played other than on alternative or rock, at least not that i've seen. It just keeps chugging along on word of mouth and being used on TV shows and commercials.

Not all too surprising really that only two of the ten longest charting songs reached number one. Most number one songs tend to get there quickly, and when a song is that huge it burns out faster.

I can agree with your first paragraph but your second paragraph seems to be a bit of a reach.... There are a few exames of artists that can sell close to 2m albums or more but they also have 4/5m selling singles and dont always have all formats playing their music...some dont have strong urban, some dont have strong pop, some dont have strong hot ac or rhythmic play yet manage to have both. I think there are so many factors that play a part but one is universal relatability of certain songs and/or certain artists.

Only will increase with radio and oscars performance should make it have huge sales and streaming

I think there are so many factors that play a part but one is universal relatability of certain songs and/or certain artists. I think you might be misunderstanding my second paragraph a bit. hopefully i explain it better, this post turned out longer than i intended. when I say 'if people like her songs, they just go out and buy the album' I'm talking about urban fans. they're much more likely to buy an album than a single, if they bother buying anything at all, and sadly the numbers show they're not that keen on buying much. but she is getting them to open their pockets in a way that they don't do for any other r&b artist out right now, male or female. that's why i say her stronghold is rare. i might be doing her an injustice by saying it seems 'easy' for her to do it, but i feel like more of the effort for this era was planning the execution than the actual execution, if that makes any sense. i think if pop fans like her songs there will be more of an even mix - some will be inclined to buy the whole album and some will buy the singles. the issue however is getting to those pop fans, and this is a genre where the actual execution requires as much work as the planning. i definitely agree there are people who can sell both singles and albums in the multiplatinum range, but when you pull out those examples, there is almost always that key factor of at least a chr hit, the one thing Bey is currently lacking. this makes the argument as to why DIL is underperforming a little frustrating on both sides b/c Bey's an urban based artist with a pop level celebrity profile. i feel like sometimes it's hard to distinguish where to draw the line...pop fans here are constantly measuring her on a scale that our urban fans believe doesn't really apply, b/c it's debatable as to how many people are actually hearing her music. a song might theoretically be universally relatable but if people don't hear it what good does it do? let's be honest, "Dark Horse" and "Drunk in Love" are musical siblings. if pop will take Katy Perry on top of a trap beat with a Juicy J feature, there's no reason to think they wouldn't also like Beyonce on an equally rhythmic trap beat with a much more mainstream-approved Jay-Z as her guest rapper. if there was ever any doubt before, DH's resounding success (along with DIL's iTunes spike following the Grammys) shows that DIL has fantastic potential on pop. but she has yet to fully exploit it, and with every day that passes i think more and more that she doesn't plan to.

Funny how a "personal video" for SS counts, but the Budweiser ad, which was seen by million not just on YouTube, but TV gets nixed. Ridiculous, Billboard, ridiculous.

The video will give it a few more points true but those views will fade in like 2 weeks then when those two weeks are up pharell will perform it at the Oscars giving it a larger gap in sales so what this really adds up to is dark horse has 5 weeks at the least and 8 at its very very most
