Top 200 Album Sales in the USA last week: 177 MADONNA|IMMACULATE COLLECTION 1,625 copies Was there a promotional sale on iTunes or Google Play? Or do you think it has to do with some of the media surrounding her birthday and Truth or Dare anniversary?

It looks to be top 10 at Google Play at the moment- another catalog top 50 appearance this year would be nice.

I was at my local Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market (don't judge) yesterday when they played "Living For Love" and I got all my life in the frozen food aisle.

^That's a cute lil' ditty. And aside from the lyrics, I like the musical nod to Holiday.

True Blue will always be my favorite album my Madonna. I think it's her best as well, though having a few filler tracks unlike Ray of Light and Erotica may work against it. The general population doesn't realize that Papa Don't Preach is the single that determined if Madonna would become -MADONNA- or Cyndi Lauper part II, forgotten by 1991. So much was riding on it and so many brilliant minds came together to realize that vision which Madonna channeled with such incredible provocation, grit, and conviction. She is a better performer and yes vocalist than songwriter because there's never any doubt that she doesn't mean whatever words are coming out of her soul at the time, even if it's something ridiculous like wanting to "singy singy singy like a bird on a wingy wingy wingy." She gets that it's soft comedy.
I think she might still have her best album in her. The real Madonna is a fountain of compassion and wisdom who has seen so much life and experienced heartbreak and triumphs many of us can only dream about. Unfortunately, she's had a lot of (understandable) post-divorce insecurity that found her trying to be something she's not and something she never needed to be (immature, shallow, groping onto her legacy as if there were ever any doubt they would sustain forever and pandering to 15 year olds, sheesh) instead of making music. I don't think passion for the arts as deep as hers ever goes away. Her promo video before Rebel Heart was awesome and Rebel Heart was a step in the right direction. If she starts working with songwriters instead of "hot producers," she'll knock everybody's socks off. Many great producers have only basic competence at songwriting, no brilliance, no genius. Call Pat Leonard, even Diane Warren if necessary. Madonna is one of the few that can channel not just good but great songs. Unforunately, her material has lacked depth and sophistication compared to her strongest stuff. Fortunately, that's easily reversible.

^I like a good amount of Diane's sappy tunes, but I don't think she should work with Madonna (even though M did do a couple of tracks with the similar David Foster).
True Blue was an indication that she was not some flash in the pan or two-album wonder. Artistically, it set her up for her most accomplished work which was to come. I mean, to go from what we saw in the Like a Virgin era, image and music-wise, to "Live to Tell," and then "Papa Don't Preach." Those are two prime examples of doing the absolute sot within one's limitations (in this case, vocally). The emotion, depth and passion she [projected for those was somethin' else.

Though I agree that True >Blue is a very good album, somehow, when I think about MAdonna all starts with Like a Prayer for me. Maybe because it is the album that introduced me to her ... 3 albums before that - somehow I always overlook/ don't count which is a shame as I mostly listen to her earlier songs and that's why I listen so much to Immaculate Collection

It's a very respectable favorite. True Blue put Madonna on a path where she was hitting artistic homeruns nonstop for a good 15 or so years. Music was the first indicator of decline, AL was a bit "huh?" Confessions had good singles, Hard Candy is a really enjoyable listen as a whole from start to finish, even though neither album had the sort of blockbusters we'd seen on TB, LAP, Ero, BS (Take a Bow) and so forth. MDNA was an abomination for me as I think she was trying too hard to prove she was "ageless and desirable" which should should be so self-evident it doesn't require a whole album of "thou doth protest too much, milady." Rebel Heart was a big step up. Ghosttown especially. Great comment from HolidayGuy as well. Maybe off topic, but I'd like to acquire a poster sized version of Madonna's True Blue album cover that shows the leather jacket and the seductive bare shoulder as it was seen in the True Blue cassette. My partner and I had trouble finding it last time we looked. Does anyone know a good place? <3 -B

The Immaculate Collection re-enters Top Album Sales at No. 92 (more than 2,900 units) and Catalog Albums at No. 18 (its 289th week inside the top 50).
TIC re-enters the mulit-metric 200 at No. 174. The album spent 141 weeks initially on the top 200- combined with its 289 weeks in the catalog top 50, that makes a whopping 430. Only Carole King's Tapestry has a higher count (that album logged 302 weeks on the albums chart prior to the start of the catalog chart).

Still no info on Rebel Heart DVD?
Also, rumors again swirling today that Madonna will be featured on Katy's new album.

I am sure you have all seen these performances, but I was feeling nostalgic, so here is Madonna's full performance from Live AID in 1985. I remember that I never saw this until years later. I was a massive Madonna fan back in HS (ok, still am) and Live AID was airing the day my family was moving. This was early in the VCR era and before internet and TIVO, so I missed it. I never saw it until YEARS later online. I was so upset that day and I remember I asked my mom / dad if we could wait to leave until after Madonna's performance was on. After all, we were only moving 8 miles away. Their response was akin to "yeah sure kid, go pack a box."
I love that Bette Midler is trying to get Madonna's attention in this clip to say hello. Finally she manages a brief handshake with her.

The legendary make backup dancers (and lip-synchers, as I don't think they sang a lick on the VT and here). :)
"Love Makes the World Go Round" was very fitting for the event. I know it's not a favorite of fans, but I've always found it fun and spunky- a contrast to its subject matter. It sounded more like a demo here, compared to what ended up on True Blue.
Bette was funny, trying to get her attention.

With 290 weeks on, TIC ties Patsy Cline's Greatest Hits for third place among female albums(Enya's Watermark has 305 weeks and Janis Joplin's Greatest Hits has 293- I had thought Cline's album had the most weeks since the chart's 1991 inception).

My favorite Rebel Heart tracks are the ones that could rival her best- I'm talking "Ghosttown," "Joan of Arc," "Wash All Over Me," "Messiah," "Rebel Heart," etc. The album (whatever edition) has other good tracks, too, but those stand out as ones that have that classic sophisticated. full-of-depth Madonna feel.
