Releasing Dark Horseis a pre-release single is also a factor that hurt the song. It had already sold over a million copies before it was officially released to radio. Those sales spaced out between 2-3 weeks would've helped it in the Digital department. But it also helped sell PRISM since Katy had three active singles during the 4Q (Roar, UnC and DH). The strategy worked because it showed there was variety on the disc. I doubt KP's team is disappointed in any manner with DH's performance. Just like Roar, maybe it didn't get as many weeks at the top as expected (BL), but it doesn't change that they are massive. DH is still gaining at radio, selling well and keep PRISM high on the album charts.

Those sales spaced out between 2-3 weeks would've helped it in the Digital department. Totally. Dark Horse's performance in light of that is amazing. Also, the video should have been released earlier, plain and simple. It may have given the song an extra week or two at #1.

2. PHARRELL WILLIAMS – Happy: 184.286 (+ 6.336) another 6m update, next week No.1 for sure Doggone...dem behind the scenes bjs keep coming for pharrell. Whew...this for sure is breaking records as much as id like this to surpass blurred lines i dont want it coming for queen mariahs streak. I'd be surprised if it didnt clear 10wks though. I still think Katy's birthday, or a new single from adele and rihanna might stop that from happen. Maybe dark horse was the last dark song and happy will usher in a lighter happy to lucky sound this year.

I'm stifling laughter at my desk that people on this board seem soooooooo disappointed that Dark Horse only got 1 week at #1. *rolls eyes*

First of all Dark Horse was #1 for 4 weeks and secondly, I doubt anyone is that disappointed in its performance especially as it's one of Katy's biggest sellers.

People just love to complain.
Some Taylor Swift fans are upset that Red did not outsell Speak Now. Red sold 4 million copies!!!!! Nothing to be disappointed in...

Dark horse isn't even one of her top five best songs. It's not even the best song released off the album so far. :)

Birthday ready to hit number one after happy. Happy Birthday in Katy's voice... #1 is not in the cards for Birthday. I can't see it. Top 5 or Top 10 but not #1... is my prediction. If she pulls a Miley and features her big balloons in the video, I'm sure it will get to #1 on Vevo streams alone.

Birthday will likely have a fun, flirty video ala Roar and Last Friday Night and that's what people have come to expect from Katy, so I'm guessing it will do very well right out the gate.

The problem with Dark Horse was that they waited too long to release it. They should of made it the 2nd single instead of "Unconditionally". They should of strike while the iron was hot. It was the biggest promo single since "I Knew You Were Trouble" the year before. But at least it's got 4 weeks at #1.It could of been more if it was released earlier.
As for Red not outselling Speak Now,Overrall The "Red" singles have done better worldwide and on CHR/Pop then The "Speak Now" singles did. As a Taylor fan,There is no reason to be mad about Taylor's album "Red" success.

Seeing it's March I think it's time to predict some year ends being so late in the year and all.
I feel Timber might take #1 for Canada, it spent 8 weeks at #1 (which is a near identical run as Tik Tok, and even the same weeks of the year)
For USA, obviously Happy is going to be high as it's following similar patterns to Blurred Lines. Timber and The Monster maybe #3 and #4 (although Timber had the Xmas sales blast), with an unreleased song taking #2 (which will be the #1 summer song, as shown in previous years [Blurred Lines, Party Rock Anthem, California Gurls {Albeit #4}] and maybe Dark horse at #5. The reason I'm throwing these predictions out now is because these songs are going to the one's with the longest number of weeks on the Hot 100, therefore will have more points than songs released in like June. Not really sure what will take the #1 spot, guess we'll have to see how long the previous songs remain on the chart.

Why is everyone upset that Dark Horse has been knocked out. That the video didn't keep it at#1...IT HIT #1 for 4 weeks.. Too many saying it would have been a bigger hit and stayed #1 for longer if the video was released sooner or that it was a pre release...IT MADE IT TO #1..how much more can you ask for. It's nice to have a turnover at the top of the charts. It's too soon for a new single. I think she should wait til about early to mid april ..Dark horse is gonna hang around the top 5 for awhile i think. I know so many people who are just getting into it. Everyone knows how much I love the 80's charts..The only thing I never liked was the fact every 3 months a new single would be released by an artist. The consistancy of hit singles was scarce for alot of big names. Today people seem to be in too much of a rush for something new, enjoy the releases as they come, but dont move so quickly because if you do people get burnt out quick. I love to see somewhat longevity of songs (not so much 50, 60, 70 weeks) but 30 is ok because sometimes it takes that long for a song to really take off. Slow down.

I think out of her remaining singles birthday screams gp radio candy and #1 Its so basic and catchy and has a summery vibe. She's going on tour in May so im sure they will shoot a video ( its been rumored that they've thought out the video concept for quite sometime) and release it at the right time. I could see it issued to radio late march and video out by May . Everytime i listen to it i imagine a fun campy fantasy video where at the end she creates an illusion of showing the guy her big balloons. Can't wait for this summery feel good song to impact.

This isn't a PRISM topic, but I nominate Legendary Lovers as her next single.
Dark Horse is still getting gains. Happy is "slowing down" by still moving much faster than any of the other songs.
Edit: Top 5 prediction
1. Happy 2. ???? 3. ???? 4. Dark Horse (had many weeks in 2013) 5. ???? Remeber how "low" Locked Out Of Heaven ranked last year? I expect The Monster to get around 16 (it fell really fast). Timber could get around 12. At this point though, we really can't know anything, saying half of the songs on the year end chart haven't charted/don't exist yet. (Counting Stars at about 28 (it had alot of the chart run in 2013))

In relevance to the Harlem Shake rule (where you can spend 16 weeks on the chart and reach #4 on the year end) The Monster had rather large digital weeks at the beginning of the 2014 chart year which I think will keep it above rank 10 in the year end. Also my predictions weren't accurate they were just using current numbers ;) Obviously gaps will be filled.

Remeber how "low" Locked Out Of Heaven ranked last year? Pretty sure that's only because they didn't give songs extra points for the weeks without Youtube counting. It should have been much higher.
