Are Rihanna's submissions in here somewhere?
I will never understand labels submitting more than one song for an artist to a category. Not that she had a chance anyway, but Mariah's label submitted two of her songs to R&B Performance. Kelly Price is in the same situation. Zac Brown Band has two songs submitted to Country Duo/Group. I am sure there are others. Why risk vote splitting? Carrie Underwood's label did that last year for Country Performance, and she wasn't nominated?

I had totally forgotten about Aloe Blacc and "The Man."
Weird how they went with Traditional R&B submissions for it though since it was a Pop hit.

Are Rihanna's submissions in here somewhere? To my knowledge nothing by her was submitted. She's only mentioned in Eminem's submissions because of "The Monster" and in Shakira's because of "Can't Remember To Forget You".

The list of Alternative noms is going to be tough, but here are some frontrunners, maybe...
Weezer - Everything Will Be Alright in the End The War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream (I think the "Suck My Cock" song gave them some exposure) Interpol - El Pintor Spoon - They Want My Soul Royal Blood - Royal Blood

I do love Spoon's album a lot, but I really really want The War on Drugs to get some exposure, given "Red Eyes" did nothing on Alternative, and after the Sun Kil Moon feud which resulted in the diss track "The War on Drugs: Suck My Cock", I think the Grammy guys might have noticed them.

QOTSA was last year. Still not over the fact that the best album of 2014 lost to fucking IMAGINE DRAGONS of all bands for "Best Rock Album". UGH. And then they shat on Josh Homme again with the closing ceremony.

And how can Aloe Blacc be eligible for BNA if he has released another album before?

Alright, so these are legit right? Because there are many questions above that I'm also questioning the legitimacy of some of these submissions?
Also, do you have to pay for a Grammy submission?

Yes, they're legit. Grammy members have posted these over at the Goldderby.com forums. They do this every year. Pretty sure there's some sort of charge, and I can't imagine it's cheap.

And how can Aloe Blacc be eligible for BNA if he has released another album before? I take it you aren't familiar with the BNA rules. The rule isn't about having released an album before, it's about having make an impact. An album no one heard of isn't held against an artist. There is also a rule that once you've been nominated as a performer, you aren't eligible for BNA.

BNA eligiblity is pretty flimsy. Bon Iver, fun., Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Shelby Lynne, Lauryn Hill and more won the award despite having been "somewhat" established previously.

There is also a rule that once you've been nominated as a performer, you aren't eligible for BNA. "I Need a Dollar" was kinda heard of though Then the issue is whether or not "INAD" gave him enough exposure for him to not be considered new, as opposed to whether or not he's released an album before. As has been mentioned, having released an album doesn't in and of itself exclude someone. I don't think "IBAD" charted on anything in the U.S., so it likely wouldn't exclude him. BNA eligiblity is pretty flimsy. Bon Iver, fun., Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Shelby Lynne, Lauryn Hill and more won the award despite having been "somewhat" established previously. True, although I don't think Lauryn Hill would have qualified for BNA under current rules. Not only is the rule itself vague/flimsy, but it has changed a lot. For awhile the rule was really strict and anyone who had released anything in a prior year was ineligible. That's why Whitney Houston was ineligible her debut year. Then the rule changed to give eligibility to those who had released material but were new as a solo artist; that's how Jody Watley and Lauryn Hill won. Then the rule changed again to have that vague rule about an artist not having had popularity until the current eligibility. I think they can't have been submitted for BNA more than 1 previous time as well. They also can't have been nominated as a performer before (being nominated as a writer doesn't count against them, though). There have probably been other changes throughout, too.

They need to get it straight then. It can't be that hard to categorize.

BNA has always had a wonky rule (and has had just as wonky winners -- see Esperanza Spalding). More and more people took notice of it during Gaga-gate, though.

I can't imagine any Best New Artist scenario being more egregious than this past year's Ed Sheeran nomination. To this date, I can't tell you how a global celebrity with a hot-selling album AND singles who was nominated for "Song of the Year" at the previous ceremony was considered a new artist.
By that standard, there would be nothing stopping Imagine Dragons from qualifying as a Best New Artist this year.

They need to get it straight then. It can't be that hard to categorize. I think "the letter of the law" is very hard to get straight. If you make it for purely new artists, then you have situations like when Whitney Houston was ineligible because she had a previous duet. If you make it too open, I can't imagine any Best New Artist scenario being more egregious than this past year's Ed Sheeran nomination. To this date, I can't tell you how a global celebrity with a hot-selling album AND singles who was nominated for "Song of the Year" at the previous ceremony was considered a new artist. If the rule is too broad, then you have situations where artists who aren't nearly "new" get nominated. I mean, if someone wasn't a success with their debut album, should they be excluded forever? Think fun. The grey area is what constitutes previous "success" to make an act ineligible. By that standard, there would be nothing stopping Imagine Dragons from qualifying as a Best New Artist this year. Imagine Dragons have won a Grammy as performers, no? Ed Sheeran got in last year on a loophole; he was nominated the previous year for SOTY and nothing else. Had he been up for Pop Solo the previous year, he would have been ineligible. I don't get why they don't just rename it to something like "Horizon Award." Then it doesn't make it about "New" as much as an act being promising.
