^ I think Imagine Dragons will be the first act to have two songs spend more than 1 year on the chart...a nice achievement indeed!

Also Jewel if You Were Meant For /Me/Foolish Games counts as two songs instead of one Yup those are the only three artists to have multiple records (I say 'records' instead of 'songs' so that Jewel's exclusion is clear) stay on the Hot 100 for a full year. Faith Hill is the only one to have consecutive singles pull it off, and will be joined by Imagine Dragons.

1. PHARRELL WILLIAMS – Happy: 285.801 (+ 1.427)
That was pretty sudden, it looks like this might miss out on 300M AI.

"Happy" had 210m BDS audience for the 3/29 chart week. As there now looks to be an even bigger gap between Mediabase and BDS, it probably won't get to 230m for 4/5 (BL peaked at just below that number, didn't it?).

isn't it easier with consecutives singles when the first one was very successful ? Actually, not usually, because the first single ends up overshadowing the second.

Remember Gotye, the guy that had the #1 song for 8 weeks almost 2 years ago and the number #1 song of the year? Now he's just somebody that we used to know...yeah, thought I should put that out there...anyway, back on topic.

IIRC Demons was briefly made recurrent for a couple of weeks in between its runs on Alternative and Pop. How many weeks would it have on the Hot 100 if it had stayed on the chart the entire time?

Post by josh on Mar 22, 2014 22:19:39 GMT -5
It charted for 5 weeks, dropped off for 10, charted 15 more, went recurrent for 5 weeks, then has been on since.
So it would have 5 more weeks if it didn't go recurrent, and 10 more weeks if it didn't drop off at all.

I still say there's really nothing at this moment that I see dethroning Happy anytime soon. As said many x, this is basically identical to last summers Get Lucky/BL chart battle. Two massive songs literally released/blew up around the same time yet one of them (Happy) is just bigger (a very rare kind of 'bigger') like Blurred Lines was. Like Get Lucky, if it wasn't for Happy, All Of Me would 200% be a #1 song for many weeks. Problem is all timing. There's no way All Of Me will maintain its momentum in time for Happy to lose the steam it currently has- with plenty left to spare. If All Of Me just started smashing now or esp. a month from now, it def. would've had a shot. Same thing last year with Get Lucky. All timing.

3 songs above 200 AI soon? Crazy that if Lorde would have made it, there would be 4.

Happy is down to just 2M updates...tsk tsk...not 100% sure it's gonna get to 300M AI unless it gets another boost (like being added to alternative radio, which, considering that GL and WMU were on the format, seems reasonable to me...alternative radio should add it, it has a guitar sound playing in it)
