So my initial prediction (except 8 and 9) was correct

The Pharrell passing ELvis for weeks at #1 reference is a bit silly I know; it would be like "more digital copies than any Beatles song." Anachronistic.

(And, while Capitol Records has yet to officially release a follow-up single to "Dark Horse," the third single from Perry's album "PRISM," the set's "Birthday" is approaching the Pop Songs radio airplay chart, with an average of 20 plays on the 10 reporting stations playing it.) That "Unconditionally" shade :kii:

That's Hot 100 history for ya, Gary. The sentence makes it pretty clear, with the commas, that "Dark Horse" is the third single from the album.

Yay! 23 weeks in the top 10 for Counting Stars and most likely it's last.
For the second week, they didn't menton the gap between the top 2 and how much percentage these 2 songs has lost/gain .

What format/s are allowing "Happy" to have such a huge impressions total? What I mean is, "BL" and "WBT" topped all the same formats pretty much. Is "Happy" just doing better than those songs, is it doing better at even more formats, or is it just a matter of Mediabase using more stations now?

Using the formula I'm using in my year-end predictions thread . Happy is down 6% , All Of Me up 7%. The gap last week is 32% and it dropped to 17% this week.

As the Rock Era only started 3 years before the Hot 100, how would we feel if Billboard started measuring chart feats from that starting point, and retroactively granting the prevalent 'Best Sellers Chart' "Honorary Degree" Hot 100 status?

jeng- these are the current Mediabase numbers for "Happy," via all Mediabase stations (not just the published panel):
AC: 22.06 Hot AC: 47.736 Adult Hits: 1.19 Top 40: 126.637 Triple A: 0.882 Urban: 28.811 Urban AC: 21.685 Rhythmic: 49.613 Rhythmic AC: 1.543 Spanish Contemporary: 6.811
The increase in stations doesn't hurt, but "Happy" is No. 1 at Hot AC/Adult Top 40, where "We Belong Together" only peaked at No. 16. And "Blurred Lines" also hit the top at that format.

I wouldn't be too upset They used to do that. They didn't officially give the songs "Honorary Hot 100 status," but did give them some credit when mentioning statistics, especially for Elvis. Other media outlets did this as well. I noticed they started to do this less mainly after the 50th anniversary of the Hot 100, because time is moving on and that period is becoming more irrelevant.

"Happy" has passed BL on Mediabase, but the increase in stations definitely could be the primary factor for that. It's a few million behind on BDS, though it may pass BL there next week.
The 1955-58 period becoming irrelevant? I highly doubt that, given that was Presley's peak period, commercially and in terms of his classics.

Statistics take on less meaning if they are not placed in proper context.
'Pharrel passes Elvis for weeks at #1 does not do that'. It also comes up everytime there is a stat involving Elvis. Sure if you elminate Elvis first 3 years the Elvis stats are less impressive

That's why the Hot 100, by itself, is not always the be-all-end-all measure of an act's/track's success/popularity, whether it's because the chart only began in August 1958 or because of chart rules throughout the years.

Also, how many weeks was Elvis a "feature?" Yeah, that stat needs to be amended. Sorry unless you're a lead artist (or a full fledged duet), meaningless.

As long as everything is put in proper context and your reader knows what you are saying then there really isn't an issue. I didn't have the issue with this Elvis thing by itself. My issue is that it happens so often in these articles and it is almost like a permanent footnote, they they ought to just ammend future stats to include the "Rock Era" rather than the Hot 100

Outside of us chart followers no one cares when the Hot 100 started. Just keep tallies in the Rock n Roll era which makes way more sense. Not including Jailhouse Rock in chart stats makes zeeeeeero sense

I also think that several generations who have grown up in the Madonna / Notorious B.I.G. / Rihanna years will say "The Rock Era...?" Time marches on, and - sadly - the phrase barely worked for Casey Kasem by the late 80s.

How is 'Happy' still gaining when it's losing spins at Pop and Rhythmic radio?

How is 'Happy' still gaining when it's losing spins at Pop and Rhythmic radio? Gained spins on pop today (and audience) and gained a little audience on rhythmic as well. Add in a good day for UAC and AC and boom, big update.

Lil Jon scores his first top 10 as a lead act since his "Snap Yo Fingers," featuring Paul and E-40, reached No. 7 in May 2006. He tallied his first top 10, "Get Low," with the East Size Boyz and featuring Ying Yang Twins, in 2003. "East Size Boys" And he forgot to put "Sean" before Paul, and then (of Youngbloodz). Just saying :kii:
