This is her best set of deluxe tracks too. Like, these were easily strong enough to be on the standard edition. I think they kept the standard at 13 due to Taylor's superstitions. lol

This album does not convince me completely. Besides the 3 pre-order tracks, I did like Blank Space, Bad Blood, Wildest Dreams and All You Had To Do Was Stay, but the album as a whole just felt really shallow and too poppy for my Taylor taste. By this I don't mean the album is bad, it's just not my cup of tea. I like Taylor better when she balances pop tunes like Shake It Off or Welcome To New York with more laid-back country ones, which are totally missing in this album. Lastly, I cannot seem to shake off the fakeness feeling she has been giving me lately and the whole beef with Katy (in which I have no interest at all, being fan of both ladies alike) is just reflecting bad upon her IMO.
So the lack of country-esque songs + her personna = me not enjoying this album as much as her others and as much as I would like to enjoy it.
I give 1989 a C at most. Sorry, Taylor, try again

The growling/ad-lib at the end of Bad Blood. :'(
I wasn't such a big fan of Bad Blood at first but it's the one song I woke up with in my head.

I really like "Bad Blood," but I wish Taylor hadn't dropped any hints about what it is about. It kind of ruins the song for me a bit. I am one of those people who don't actually like knowing who a song is about, because it kind of takes me out of the song and doesn't allow me to fully hear the song and develop my own interpretation of it. I hope the rumors of her and Katy's "feud" die away quickly, so as much as I like the song I kind of hope it isn't a single. With all of Taylor's great comments about feminism lately, I don't want this era to be marred with constant tabloid stories about the supposed "catfight" between her and Katy, both of whom I really like.

Style has got me in an endless loop of listens. It's perfect, oh so perfect. My favorite song on the album hands down. I don't need to listen to anything else off this album.

I like everything except Welcome To New York, Shake It Off, This Love and Clean. Bad Blood is alright but everything else is either good or excellent.

Ok, the verses on Style are probably my favorite verses of any song sonically. Or maybe Wildest Dreams...
I'm glad this album (apart from Get The Girl) isn't just bubblegum pop I love bubblegum pop (Katy Perry) But this style suites her much better.

This is the best out and out pop album released since Robyn's Body Talk trio. Come at me.
Style, Blank Space, Wildest Dreams, Clean, This Love, I Wish You Would, New Romantics...let me just list every song.
Fuck, take your foot off my neck Taylor.

Seems like reviews are going to be great as well. Billboard - ★★★★☆ (they changed their rating system, no longer out of 100) The Telegraph - ★★★★☆ The Guardian - ★★★★☆ Rolling Stone - ★★★★☆ Pitchfork can fuck off for all I care, but I'm curious to see if they'll acknowledge her existence finally outside of news articles or year end lists.

Pitchfork can f**k off for all I care, but I'm curious to see if they'll acknowledge her existence finally outside of news articles or year end lists. Their three articles on her this year are all about other artists hating on her, so I wouldn't count on good news if they review it at all, haha.

I have no idea who on their staff has it out for her, but it's ridiculous that they've never even reviewed a song/album of hers despite her stature in American pop culture. I mean they can include YBWM and WANEGBT in their year end/decade lists but can't be bothered to give her album a spin?

Style is pretty much the best song any pop singer has released in the past five years.
She really killed it. Pitchfork can suck it, no one's checking for them and everyone's checking for Tay.

It's not bad, but... if I'm totally honest, I don't hear a lot of her on this record. I hear a lot of everybody else and the downer is that, more often than not, I wish the artist coming to mind was singing it more than Taylor. It's weird, because the material is good! I'm just disappointed that she couldn't quite make it her own. 'Welcome to New York' sucks so bad though lol why was that even considered, let alone added as the album opener? Their three articles on her this year are all about other artists hating on her, so I wouldn't count on good news if they review it at all, haha. Seriously. I have no idea who on their staff has it out for her, but it's ridiculous that they've never even reviewed a song/album of hers despite her stature in American pop culture. That's not really their thing, though. Likewise, they've never given Britney the time of day bar a piece on Blackout that they couldn't even bother to rate. Not that that makes them any less snotty, but it's just not who they market to... although this album is kind of right up their alley, you'd think. I don't think it's anything against Taylor, though.

I'm glad to read the reviews so far have been mainly positive. I decided not to listen to the leak and wait until the release!

I know it's been only two days, but "This Love" is approaching levels of "All Too Well" for me. So underrated here.
And I LOVE "Clean". I can't believe the poor reception those two are getting here.

'Style', 'I Wish You Would' and 'I Know Places' are the stand-outs for me. 'Bad Blood' is a disappointment and a half, after all that press about 'oh! she wrote a song about Katy Perry!' I find it to be utterly generic and lyrically points to literally nobody (but after someone said it appaz samples/sounds like Roar, I'm hearing more Lorde/Royals?!)

I wouldn't call it "poor reception"... I just think those two take a bit longer to get into since they're not as initially catchy as some of other tracks.

I'm just disappointed that she couldn't quite make it her own. . I've never listened to one of Taylor's albums all the way through so really unsure how balanced my opinion is here (!), but I think the opposite in most cases - she's brought something a little different to the standard Max Martin sound in most cases for me - not all, granted. Tracks 2-6 are strong and I can only assume that's her doing. It doesn't sound like she's just given a voice to songs that were written years ago and have been passed around. i'm speaking as someone who has always professed to dislike her, so I guess you could argue that the new production/writing is the only reason I'm enjoying this album, which obviously has far less to do with her... I don't know. Anyway - Blank Space needs to be a single like... now.

Were people expecting references to a blue wig or candy dress in "Bad Blood"? C'mon now, Taylor is smarter than that. I've heard a few claim how "generic" it is, and while it may be one of the less "original" tracks, it is a slam dunk of a single just itching for hit status.

I like Bad Blood even though I think it's a bit dramatic. Katy "stole" some dancers, Taylor; not your man.
I also can't wait for the official Grammy nominations in December to see if she and Katy end up in any of the same categories.

I also can't wait for the official Grammy nominations in December to see if she and Katy end up in any of the same categories. People have that whole situation so misconstrued. It wasn't just the whole "stolen dancer" situation, that was just the tipping point. She has spoken about how this person would constantky give her backhanded compliments whenever she would approach her at awards shows on top of who knows what else. Point being, there is obviously more behind their strained relationship than a handful of dancers.
