On first listen, I like most of what I heard, the 3 sore weak links for me are ...New York, Shake It Off, and Bad Blood.
Bad Blood had potential, but it sounds like it got majorly declawed between conception and the final product and she sounds like Avril Lavigne on Prozac during the chorus. Those 3 aside, it's pretty much high quality and the best moments easily match her best ones from the past.

What is the song that was rumored to be about making fun of herself? "Blank Space?"

Rolling Stone gave her an 80 which is on par with her scores from Fearless and Speak Now and higher than her 70 score for Red.

i'd go with "bad blood" as the next single, its very singable, possible #1 Lyrics are too weak for a single, in my opinion.. I hold her singles to a higher standard because that's what people are referring to when they criticize her as an artist, you know? I want "Blank Space" as a single

I like Bad Blood even though I think it's a bit dramatic. Katy "stole" some dancers, Taylor; not your man. I also can't wait for the official Grammy nominations in December to see if she and Katy end up in any of the same categories. People have that whole situation so misconstrued. It wasn't just the whole "stolen dancer" situation, that was just the tipping point. She has spoken about how this person would constantky give her backhanded compliments whenever she would approach her at awards shows on top of who knows what else. Point being, there is obviously more behind their strained relationship than a handful of dancers. I have a feeling her and Katy just have very different senses of humor, and perhaps Taylor read some comments as "mean" when they were really just sarcastic. For example, I've seen a few people say that Katy was being "mean" to Kacey Musgraves with some of her comments during their CMT Crossroads special, but in reality it was just sarcasm. Katy and Kacey are good friends and have a similar sense of humor. That said, I obviously don't have any insider information into Taylor and Katy's interactions with each other, so perhaps Katy was indeed not very nice to Taylor. But I could easily see Katy's sarcastic comments coming across as "mean" or "backhanded" to Taylor, when they weren't intended that way.

I've obviously never met either one (nor would I ever want to be friends with either),but I agree that it sounds like Taylor failing to take a joke. Katy's sense of humor could come off as mean, but don't take things so seriously! It's part of Katy's personality. Examples are her jokingly calling her Grandma a b!tch and telling Kacey she looked like Dolly without the tits. If Taylor is only airing this feud to contribute to album sales, then I totally commend her! But if she is genuinely offended by someone trying to "steal" her dancers and make jokes that she makes to everyone, then she needs to stop being such a drama queen and get the eff over it.

Lol @ the speculation Taylor is being "overly-sensitive" when people have literally no idea what was said to her behind the scenes or the dynamics of their relationship. Lawwddd.
I don't claim to know who is in the right or wrong, just that it goes beyond a few stolen dancers. Furthermore, hey, guess what? If she is offended to the point of writing about it (as all of her material was manifested from something that impacted her significantly emotionally) then it likely could have been more than some simple misread joke. Furthermore, however she reacts, is her right. Nothing I detest more than people trying to correct someone on the "correct" way to feel. No. People are affected by things differently and should be able to feel any way they want to about it. :)

This is my first time posting about the album, and here are a few standout thoughts from it:
1. All You Had to Do Was Stay is my favorite track. I love the lyrics and how instant the song is, plus the production is top notch. The verses also have the classic Taylor Swift vibe to it (Like when she sings "I've been pickin' up the pieces, of the mess you made"). 2. Other standouts include Blank Space, Style, Out of the Woods, I Wish You Would, and This Love. 3. I like New Romance, but I don't think it's as good as everyone is saying. "Baby, we're the new romantics" and "Heartbreak is the national anthem" are such Disney pop music clichés. The hook just isn't that strong. 4. I love the bridge in Wonderland. She kind of incorporated that style of singing into I Wish You Would, but I wish I would have seen it in more places. 5. I'm back and forth on Welcome to New York. Presently, I would say that it isn't a great track by itself, but it makes sense as an album opener. I wish it would have been better, though, since I was excited to have a new NYC-themed jam when I saw the title. 6. There really are no fillers on the album. Some songs aren't as strong, but they are still pretty good. When I listened to the album for the first time, it reminded me of Teenage Dream. Not stylistically, but because it's the last straight up pop album I remember listening to where EVERY song is pure pop gold.

Point being, there is obviously more behind their strained relationship than a handful of dancers. It still seems like one of those situations that's a bit deeper than it is but that's just an outsider's perspective. I never saw Katy and Taylor like Katy and Rihanna who publicly seem to have a close friendship; I always assumed it was more of a casual, "industry" type friendship if anything and that "tipping point" being Taylor's epiphany that they weren't as good of friends as she thought. Still a good song but I do not want it as a single. Out of the Woods, Blank Space, Style and How to Get the Girl, please!

Not to sound too loaded, but saying Taylor is just "overly-sensitive" might be a branch that's quite removed from the stump of the tree, but the stump of the tree is still the one that goes "if a woman writes about her feelings she's accused of having too many" -- aka, it's kind of sexist. No one knows the situation between them, and it's silly to throw out a term "overly-sensitive" because it just feeds in the caricature of Taylor Swift, which has a lot of sexist undertones to it. She's a 24 year old woman who has a good head on her shoulders, give her some credit and don't dismiss her due to her "feelings".

Holy shit. Serve those vocals and ad-libs.
She sounded SO good at this concert this week. I'd say it's the best she's ever sounded.

'Style', 'Wonderland', and 'New Romantics' = the holy trinity of this album. Those three are just so, so, so good.

I still think the whole Taylor/Katy thing is partly because of John Mayer and no amount of talking about stolen dancers or backhanded compliments will convince me otherwise.

I am not a really a fan of Taylor, but I listened to the album once through. Nothing really jumped out at me, and it kind of felt like a more basic version of Tegan And Sara's Heartthrob.

The horn section in that IKYWT performance is KILLER. I hope she takes them on the road with her next year.

That was my theory as soon as it was revealed who it was about. Seriously Taylor writing about snarky comments/dancers OR about an ex.... Hmm, I wonder? LOL

Style, Blank Space, I Wish You Would, and You R In Love are my instant favorites!
I think Red has stronger album tracks but 1989 might have the stronger singles. The existence of Style in this album automatically puts 1989 up there for me. Such a perfect pop record.
