The most classic example of the title of this thread is Crazy by Patsy Cline. That song was written by Willie Nelson and peaked at #2 in 1961. Here are a few more examples. I bet you can come up with a few. Ready? 1. I've Cried The Blue Right Out Of My Eyes-Loretta Lynn-Crystal Gayle-1970-#25 2. It's Only Make Believe-Conway Twitty-Glen Campbell-1970-#3 3. Pure Love-Eddie Rabbitt-Ronnie Milsap-1974-#1 4. Kentucky Gambler-Dolly Parton-Merle Haggard-1975-#1 5. A Love Song-Lee Greenwood-Kenny Rogers-1983-#3 6. Fancy-Bobbie Gentry-Reba McEntire-1991-#8 7. Today My World Slipped Away-Vern Gosdin-George Strait-1997-#3 8. My Give A Damn's Busted-Joe Diffie-Jo Dee Messina-2005-#1 9. Making Memories Of Us-Rodney Crowell-Keith Urban-2005-#1 10. Mississippi Girl-John Rich-Faith Hill-2005-#1 I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE reading Crystal Gayle's name on pulse. I would have loved to have been around in the 70's and early 80's when she was dominating the country charts. I'll add some more Crystal Gayle songs: 'Til I Gain Control Again-written by Rodney Crowell Makin' Up For Lost Time-co-written by Gary Morris

I saluted Straight To The Heart, her 18th and final #1 hit. Anyway, I will choose Gayle for today's installment for A #2 that should have been a #1 (she's got three #2 hits). I am doing this to increase your 'Gayle reading sensation'.

No mention of Eric Church writing ZBB's current single? For shame. George Ducas had a few other writing credits: "Just Call Me Lonesome" by Radney Foster, "Kiss Me in the Dark" by Randy Rogers Band, "Beer Run" by George Jones/Garth Brooks, "Always the Love Songs" by Eli Young Band, and "Won't Be Lonely Long" by Josh Thompson. Becky Hobbs ("Let's Get Over Them Together") wrote Alabama's "Angels Among Us" and Ken Mellons' "Rub-a-Dubbin'". ]Unfortunately the more time goes on, I'm thinking many country listeners would not know who David Lee Murphy is, which is a shame. I didn't list his because he's been a songwriter only most of his career in Nashville since he lost his original record deal (other than the cup of coffee he had with Audium in 2004). That thought actually crossed my mind while I was listing his songwriting credits. I was thinking to myself, "Wow, there are people listening to radio now who have no idea many of the songs they are humming along with was written by a well established artist from the 90's." David has found great success as a songwriter, but I can't help but wonder if it was he who had the opportunity to release those songs if radio would be as accepting of them. The answer is probably not. I think most people would at least recognize "Dust on the Bottle" since it still gets a ton of recurrent airplay. Probably "Party Crowd" too.

The Truth About Men - Tracy Byrd (co-written by Rory Feek of Joey + Rory) Get Outta My Way - Carolina Rain (Robert Ellis Orrall and Curtis Wright of Orrall & Wright) Rory Lee Feek wrote a lot of songs pre-Joey + Rory. Orrall and Wright also had a lot of songwriting credits before and after their singing careers.

"Play (Written by Hunter Hayes, sung by Rascal Flatts) "I Like The Sound Of That" & " Powerful Stuff" (both written by Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay and both sung by Rascal Flatts) I think you mean "DJ Tonight" which Shay Mooney co-wrote. "Powerful Stuff" was a Brett James and Gregg Wattenberg co-write.

I thought this was supposed to be centered on stars? Or, at the very least, people with heavy notoriety outside of ASCAP/BMI? A majority of the ones listed in this thread at this point are just regular, run-of-the-mill songwriters, lol.
Ryan Tedder - "Good in Goodbye" by Carrie Underwood Diane Warren - "Some Hearts" by Carrie Underwood ...Kara DioGuardi - "Mama's Song" and "Undo It" by Carrie Underwood (and she's never worked with her since, *knock on wood*) Carrie Underwood & Ne-Yo - "Walk Away" by Megan Hilty Not sure if it was mentioned yet (I'm sure it has been, I just don't feel like reading through endless lists), but Katy Perry - "Follow Your Arrow" by Kacey Musgraves

A majority of the ones listed in this thread at this point are just regular, run-of-the-mill songwriters, lol. I think some have put some singer's higher on the "star" scale, due to being overly knowledgeable on some of these artists. Some like Ryan Tyler, Rachel Proctor, Marcel, Ray Scott, Jace Everett, Jonathan Singleton, and George Ducas while not stars had record deals and singles at radio at one point or another. The thread does read "stars" though, so I guess you're right about heavy notoriety being a must criteria.

"Natural Woman" - written by Carole King, sung by Aretha Franklin (then subsequently recorded/covered? by Carole King). Carole has recorded a lot of the songs that she wrote for other artists. On Tapestry, she includes "Natural Woman" (Aretha Franklin), "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" (The Shirelles, also covered by Lorrie Morgan - country connection!), "You've Got A Friend" (James Taylor). She's also recorded "Chains" (The Beatles), "Pleasant Valley Sunday" (The Monkees), "One Fine Day" (The Chiffons), "Up On The Roof" (The Drifters), among many, many others.
