#2 If 1993, Janet
The intro alone is known around the world, or as one Pulse poster said
The intro...ICONIC. The song... ICONIC. The breakdown...ICONIC. The music video...ICONIC. The choreography...ICONIC. Janet Jackson... ICONIC
If is instantly recognizable and a HUGE crowd pleaser on tour. And that video?! Arguably the best female dance video of all-time. Nothing else really needs to be said about "If". No surprise at all to see it near the top.

Attachment Deleted#1 LONELY 1989 Rhythm Nation 1814So when the raindrops start falling and the mood is set and instrumentation drops there is a ethereal vibe that is instantly " Oh what is happening here" I was hooked by not only how beautiful the song is, how catchy the melody is, I will argue one of the most beautiful hooks by anyone, but then you add how and when I heard it and how I relate with every word of it. Its just the complete package for a sentimental bitch like me. I'm sure a few of her fans love this but some might think why with the countless hits and classic this song, well cause its the one that I love the most due to a variety of reason but it stayed with me always. Its to me such a special song that i feel on a personal level but simply just enjoy how BEAUTIFUL it really is.. " Feeling so alone and deserted With people standing all around you Should I trust someone Should I stay off to myself Alone with no one to talk to It's such a helpless feeling" Its one of the rare songs that I take the song and apply it to myself, thats when i know the artist has done their job. Grew up in a house full of people and had many laughs and fun moments and then it was like but nobody but me knows what is going on in my heart tho? Its a lonely feeling not being able to speak your true mind. They are around you , people everywhere but nobody is actually really there? its a hard concept to grasp not being the true you to anyone else but you. That is my favorite part of the song but even as time has passed and that wasn't the case, I still turned to this song just for its sheer brilliance. Janet's voice, her much maligned voice has never fluttered angelic like more than on this song. Something about everything going on production wise and how she sings is just oh so magical, simply one of the most beautiful songs crafted by Janet Jackson Music was always a tool for self reflection it always had a deeper meaning than just the beat to me, sometimes it takes a beautiful melody or a relatable lyric or sometimes cant relate with the song but the emotional outpouring of the artist makes me wanna listen. This song covered all bases because I felt it, I loved the lyrics, I love the melody, the arrangement, the production why the f**k was it NOT a single? who cares i wouldn't want to share it with the entire world anyways, its my personal slice of heaven. yes i do really love this that much that I stay rambling on and on! Oh yeah for symbolism its actually raining right now in Toronto and ain't that even more reason that it was meant to be?! lol.

Tomorrow will thank everyone but also wanted to write something about Janet Jackson, why I did this and what she meant to us all. Her legacy shall not be forgotten and want to touch on my own personal views on her career.

#4 Nasty: For me it’s def TOP3 from her. Those iconic lines alone would make Nasty her signature song. I just admire how Janet plays w/ her vocals on it. Janet always loves to play with reporters who try to be more formal w/ her and when they say Miss Jackson… she just laughtes and jokes.. Only if you gonna be NASTY… #3 I Get Lonely This is the most important song in her discography for me that turned me into a die-hard fan from a casual listener. My mom is a is also a fan and she’s Control, RR1814, Janet. LPs ever since I can remember… So I kinda grew up listening to JJ whether I like i tor not. But IGL was IT for me… When I watched the video for the first time… It was just magic… I just couldn’t take my eyes off, her loved her image, her vocals, the melody, lyrics… Soon after I bought the TVR album. THIS VERSION >>>>>> #2 If: *NO COMMENT” My fav performance: Am I the only one devastated that the Janet. Tour was never properly released, or at least available in a descent quality?

When will the so-called "Queen of Pop" serve this kind of arrangements? That's all I gotta say! Such an unexpected #1!! You fooled us all Miss Coco! Who woulda known the #1 would be an album track instead of one of her huge hits? Speaks volumes about how STRONG Janet's catalog really is. Gorgeous!

#1 Lonely: I'm in a complete shock that this song got the top spot!!! MY JAM IS NO LONGER UNDERAPPRECIATED!!! :'( It's one of these few cases when I have to quote myself.... lol. ... Lonely is for me way more than just a Lullaby. It's been THE song from Rhythm Nation for years. It got me through a lot. Very uplifting message combined with one of the most beautiful melodies in her discography makes this song her little masterpiece, people little know about. Doubtful that Janet even remember about this song. RR1814 made history, but it's also a very strong record as a whole, one of her most cohesive to date. (TVR stays unbothered tho) But I think some of the songs are underesvingly neglected due to so many smashes on the same LP. For me: Lonely > The Knowledge > *Someday Is Tonight >> The Singles (apart from Alright).

The greatest female dancer of all time, the most important and Queen of Pop.Part of the reason I did this chart, specifically about Janet Jackson outside of the music of course is that I always felt she was and IS now definitely perceived as having less than impact on music than some other musical act. While someone else gets all the credit for impacting female independence, revolution, the strong female voice and for some absurd reason dance music in general. She was given by the media the title of "POP QUEEN" okay fine she got it, but does she deserve it over Janet Jackson or did she manipulate her way there with her outlandish stunts, books, crassness and overall THIRST for attention? What exactly is she talented in, singing or dancing, show me I'm lost, well yes she had many greats songs, moments but then again is that really why she is where she is, because Janet Jackson gave us imo more musically and in dance. Dance music didn't start with her or Janet, it was the old school diva's of dance who put it out there for the masses but it was popularized by the 80's queens in a worldwide fashion. So from where I sit, Janet Jackson is the leading voice (feet) because from the start no other woman really DANCED like she did to a worldwide audience. While others shuffled their mangled feet around and humped on stage leading to the creation of the Miley Cyrus's of the world, I would argue feverishly that Janet Jackson inspired some of the other women who can actually dance like Ciara, Beyonce, Britney Spears and is directly more influential than any other female. Janet was never crass but her songs and lyrics were truly more organic and felt like something she actually believed to be truth and not using it for attention, she was quiet but she carried a big stick. She talked about control, independence, abuse, physical and emotional and verbal, substance abuse, racism and every other subject under the sun. She did with class and fun, informative and entertaining but it always was right along with the music. The message was never used to bash us over the head with, it was always right alongside FUN songs we grew up dancing too, I respect that. What other woman has delivered 4, count em 4 straight albums like Control, Rhythm Nation, Janet and The Velvet Rope? I mean quality, hits, meaning, classics. 4 albums in a row not hit or miss and then come back again,4 classics and she is second to who? for what reason? No other woman did sex, with more subtle and classy fashion, no other woman made dance music so fun but actually be able to dance like she did, she was the first and only visual female artist of our generation. She is the face of dance. Her videos are second to none that don't have the Jackson name. Second to who? Why when she is " first and only artist in history to produce seven top five hits from one album, Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814" and "25 top-10 hits on the Hot 100" and "attained 10 Hot 100 number-one singles" Do i feel ever since the Superbowl she is literally almost always forgotten, as if crass moments had any sort of dents to Miley for example or some other woman of dance? Why does it feel like even though she isnot promoting her legacy like others she seems to be slipping in her legacy, why does she need to promote it, with a career and resume like that? She is without a shadow of doubt the most important female entertainer, the best dancing diva of all time and has meant for to the world of dance and pop than any other woman to ever pick up a mic and entertain, dance for us all. She is a icon, a legend, a hall of famer but I feel like the new school seems to expect her to come crawling to them and do interviews, make appearances to further he career when they should be running to her. If Beyonce can drop a album and sell without promoting it, dropping it overnight then Janet's RESUME should have them stanning for her and rightfully placing right beside or ahead of any other POP QUEEN. When Queen Janet puts her hands out they should crawl to her I want to thank everybody who sent in their favorite songs, I appreciate that! I would like to thank everyone who made comments, liked videos and otherwise contributed and viewed. It was fun for me personally to live in memory lane and revisit all of my favorite moments and songs from Janet Jackson. Special shoutouts to those who wrote in songs @touch, MikeCheck12, @drag27, God, Me. I Am Justin..., Fat Ass Kelly Price, dbhmr, Me. I Am l!nk!nfan815..., #LisaRinna, Kishi KCM, Janhova's Witness, @iwannago, Devil Marlena Nylund, Linnethia Monique, @antigonerising Her songs ICONIC Her videos ICONIC Her legacy ICONIC She is and always will be to me the best female to emerge from the 1980's and the most consistent hitmaking, entertaining. Janet Jackson is dance when you look it up. Sorry!

I've been summoned to comment, so I've returned. :)
14. So Excited- Don't care for it much at all- especially of the vocal style. Not much more to say. 13. All For You: Bubbly, fun Janet. I don't love it as much as, say, "When I Think of You," though. 12. Where Are You Now: Sweet sentiment and nice melody. I've always enjoyed this. 11. Rock With U: It's alright- again, not one of my favorites. 10. Twenty Foreplay: A "forgotten" gem. Love the intro, and how the tempo shifts some. 9. Control: One of her defining tracks, for sure. I like it just fine. 8. Feedback: Fun and frothy- probably like it a bit more than "Rock With U." 7. That's the Way Love Goes: Nice laid-back groove; essential Damita. 6. An Time, Any Place: I like it, but I've never LOVED it. As someone else said, it's all about the album version. 5. The Pleasure Principle: The video may get more notices than the track itself, but it's a solid, enjoyable tune. 4. Nasty: Classic Janet- love it. 3. I Get Lonely: I like it, but not a favorite. 2. If: Solid tune, classic Janet. And, of course, a video that contains some of her most recognizable choreography. 1. Lonely: To be honest, I had not listened to this in some time. It's a nice-enough ballad, but wouldn't be near the top of my list.
