Special shout-out to a couple of guest vocal spots on Herb Alpert's funky album, "Keep Your Eye On Me".

I am legit PISSED OFF that Twenty Foreplay is not on Spotify. Effed up the '90s Grind' playlist I was making. I have plenty of other Janet on it of course, but the list is incomplete because of that :(

Very rarely do I not say the same thing about literally any song he's mixed. I wish he was still a mainstay. Anyway can we get to MY Janet pick? I'm guessing it's top 5 so it might be a while. :'(

14 So Excited Remix f/ Khia 2006, 20 Y.O. Iz u, iz u, iz u hongray? Yassss the inclusion of Khia >> #13 All For You 2001, All For You Hot sample, hot song, hot video. What kind of flawlessness? #12 Where Are You Know 1993, Janet One of her best ballads. #11 Rock With U 2008, Discipline Ahead of its time. Janet was giving the gerls a glimpse into classy Eletro-Pop before they even figured out what to do with it. This song is a reminder that when she wants to, she can give us hotness still. #10 Twenty Foreplay 1995, Design of a Decade 1986/1996 I love how it changes up amd the wordplay of the title.

#9 Control 1986, Control
"This is a story about control My control Control of what I say Control of what I do And this time I'm gonna do it my way"
Incredible, classic and a template of what a music video should be about, a storyline. The lyrics of song alone are powerful but when you marry that with a highly entertaining beat and choreography its hard for anyone to argue the placement of this song other than why is it not ranked higher?
The funny part is when I first saw this song, the meaning of the song was the last thing I was thinking of. I was all about dancing to it and getting my life and yet missing the deeper message of a girl trying to break free of her family control over her, umm hello! I been trying to do that my damn self. Janet will always underestimated in her deepness because of how lowkey she is with her message. She doesnt grandstand like some other diva's, she doesn't attract media to herself in ways that distract from her music, but in all her classics they were about something and they stood for something.
Lets not forget the intricate and complex production by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis having less equipment an technology to work with back then and putting these new school producers to shame. I usually hate videos that are based on concert but with this who cares, with that mini movie and her working that stage like she bout to see her maker, it all works!. This song is so Janet but it also reminds me of what I love about Michael. She might sometimes be discredited because of her last name but it takes incredible talent to make music of this ilk, sell 100 of millions records ww and make a name for yourself. What did Tito or Latoya or Jermaine sell? just saying.
FEAST YA EYES ON THIS MINI MOVIE AND ENJOY THIS CLASSIC.

#10 Twenty Foreplay: I cannot ever get enough of this ballad. The more I listen to this the more I love it, and it's always been like this. it's one of the songs I always suggest listening to tose who wanna explore Janet's discography for the first time. What really annoys me is why in the world the incredible video is not included on any of her DVDs? Since all videos from Control to Damita Jo (expect for DRM, and JALW) are? it's a real shame. #9 Control: I refuse to state the obvious, so I'll post my favorite performance instead: FIERCE BIT*H ❤

^I just saw "Twenty Foreplay" for the first time last night (from this thread) since it isn't on her DVDs and for some reason I never sought it out. All I could think about was how classy she was/is. :'( I like the Slow Jam remix from the video, but the album version is just breath taking (although it just clicked with me about a year ago for some reason). I also love the Junior mix, which Coco posted.

ICONIC! I could basically get away with just writing that for each song, sometimes i grasping for what to say when the only thing worth saying is LEGENDARY, ICONIC, SLAYED This song was the first song I heard from her. It was my first time seeing/hearing her, I was still in Cuba. Memories... It was also the first video i remember seeing from her, i might be wrong and seen others but it was the one that stood out in mind.

#8 Feedback 2008, Discipline
Slay mama slay basically what did we expect from a musical marriage between Janet Jackson and Rodney DarkChild. An orgasmic, delicious, sexy and futuristic sound that is fitting for being the Queen of dance . Janet Jackson was dance music and her along with Donna Summer, Diana Ross and a host of others helped revolutionized dance music in America. The beat was bangin' the attitude was full on sassy, it was oozing sexuality . Basically she was showing the girls like Christina how to do sex effortlessly and others how she didn't have to be naked to ooze sex (looking at you Miley!) She was covered from head to toe in the video but slayed us with how f**king hot she was.
Now I must say sometimes having a voice "digitized" as much as she did on this song irks me but with the "futuristic" productional elements and how the whole vibe of the song/video is, I really didnt notice or care in this case. End result its just hot.
I really want to highlight some lyrics and how clever with the pen game this song was
"Strum me like a guitar, blow out my amplifier" "My swag is serious, something heavy like a first day period"
It has every quality of a party/club track that I would highlight as made for me, it has attitude, it was fresh to death, it was witty with its lyric and it created the right party atmosphere, ironic that its this song turn on the chart and tonight is the only night my ass stay dry!.
Speaking of drunks, the always half in the bag but somehow intelligent poster has a few things to say as always;
dbhmr For whatever reason, Janet has never really been on my radar. There are a handful of her huge hits I know (and adore), but I've just never been that invested, nor motivated to do so. I have no legitimate reason for this. So excuse the selection (does it need excusing? How does Janhova feel about this?), but I f**king love this song. That beat is sexy sexy sexy. "Heavy like a first-day period." Stay seated in that grave, Shakespeare
Janhova's Witness Feedback - this was a would-be smash so mishandled that it buried the entire Discipline era before Janet could even break out the poodle wig and plastic lawn chairs. I love it anyway. "Strum me like a guitar, blow out my amplifier; when you hear me screaming, n*gga f*ck me harder!"
amazing, f**king yasss, slay me and turn me out , ladies and gentleladies I present the heat

I would be foolish not to highlight the remix featuring the PRINCESS of Dance, Cici. I love it. Note how the Queen didn't reach out and call you Rihanna, hmmmmph! 2 left feet and half a lung diva listen to how the bad bitches do it HAHA!

Note how the Queen didn't reach out and call you Rihanna, hmmmmph! 2 left feet and half a lung diva listen to how the bad bitches do it HAHA! As I recall, this wasn't an official remix - Ciara's camp did it themselves, and Janet didn't reach out to anyone lol. "Feedback" is the bidness. It's such a shame its release was mishandled so badly - LA Reid leaked it (out of spite over a disagreement with Janet, I suspect) in mid December, in the middle of the holiday freeze, and they scheduled the adds date for the second week of January. The equivalent of dropping a song in purgatory - not the circumstances you want when you're trying to stage a radio comeback. And that video was just a fucking disaster. Then she decided to bring those ridiculous planets with her to all the promo appearances, along with her poodle wig. Thankfully, she redeemed herself visually with Rock With U.

^ It wasn't a official remix, but I always thought Janet was okay with the song and its use. I remember hearing that she didn't want to shoot a video tho.
The premise stands tho still cause if she aint calling Cici she aint calling Riri! but seriously though they should have released a video for it and joined forces because Cici added so much to the song with her verses.

There actually is an official version of the Ciara remix but iirc it's Janet ft. Ciara and like five other people.
Anyway, glad to see my favorite hasn't been posted yet!

#7 That's The Way Love Goes 1993, Janet
Instantly recognizable, iconic for the music and the music video, the biggest hit of her career and a song that showered with Grammy, awards and accolades. It touched and inspired people from Destiny's Child to Nsync, Robin Thicke, Ciara, Britney Spears, Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys and FUCKING PRINCE. A smooth R&B groove that is timeless rarely does a song sound as good today as it did then. Just a sensual and smooth song that is just simply a gorgeous beat with a gorgeous melody.
The simplicity of the video was not usual for Janet but it worked with the laid back vibe that the song created and damn does she define beauty for me in the video, just stunning in a natural, organic sexy.
I dunno but the stark contrast with how her voice sounds, so innocent with the lyrics is something that always unsettling in a dang this girl has more of a story to tell. It's like with each song she puts out she is telling her deepest , darkest secrets and sharing it with us. I dunno I always feel that intimate connection with Janet because I feel through her songs she is telling us stuff she might not always walk around and share.
simply iconic and until the last few years or so, would have been my favorite Janet song of all time. Time is fluid so in a few years might just end up at #1 again. #BEAUTIFULCLASSICAMAZING!
-Rolling Stone described the song as a "warm bed of soul sounds." - Entertainment Weekly described it as "gently percolating pop" and "easygoing," - The L.A. Times described "That's the Way Love Goes" as "one of the most endearing pieces of romantic pop confection of the '90s," adding "the song is a highlight of Jackson's latest and best album,
