#7 That's The Way Love Goes for me, it's the most iconic love song Janet has ever made. I'm kinda surprised it didn't make the TOP5. Once, again I refuse to state the obvious and I'll post my fav remix instead:

I remember being floored the first time I heard TTWLG on the radio....and floored in a good way. The song is sexy....sophisticated.....smooth....and all Janet. it just grooves.
I'll never forget how MTV hyped up the release of the TTWLG video. They teased it like crazy for weeks. And Janet delivered a sexy & smooth video that perfectly matched the song's vibe. The janet. era was everything!

#6 Anytime, Any Place 1993, Janet It should have been painfully obvious when the B-sides to this are the other two charted gems "Throb" and "And On and On" that this would rank pretty high on my personal favorites. A mid to slow tempo, urban silky smooth and uber sexy song that struck a chord with me from the very first listen. This is basically one of those songs you put on late at night alone or with a friend, basically a baby making moment!
This song reached #2 on the bb chart and spawned a top 10 hit when Kendrick Lamar and Drake got a 2013 top 10 hot with a sample of this. Its legacy is without a doubt but the melody and sexual uprising it created is well worth you to give this slinky song a chance imo.
As I keep repeating, Janet fucking looks amazing in the video and when she is glowing most is when she is riding that dudes lap , not sure how he managed to contain himself! Janet is simply a goddess, a seductive goddess in that her sexual appeal is so strong and so innocent but yet nasty too. Only she can pull that off.
I love how her voice settles into that airy hummingbird range and she carries this song for me vocally because how sweet and sensual it sounds. Supreme!
Linnethia Monique The way she coos and glides over this smooth track feels like sex itself. Who else could make a 7 minute opus about intimacy on this level besides Janet. The slow crawl of the intro into that first kick is powerful. As the track pushes further and further into that climax with the various vocal layerings, you feel as if it's just you and her. Also the thunderstorm at the end. Nasty. Catch that metaphor people.

LOVE "That's the Way Love Goes" and "Any Time, Any Place"
I prefer the album version of the latter. The R. Kelly remix is nice, but the original takes me there.

The album version of ATAP for me, too. And selfishly, this song will always have a special place in my heart. I was picked as an "Anytime, Anyplace" guy in Chicago during the janet. tour. Needless to say - I'll NEVER forget that night. :)

#6 Anytime, Any Place: I'm so glad to see another incredible song from Janet. I'm glad to se itso high on your list! I've been jamming to this album since Wendesday and I must admit it went way up in my ranking, and this baby making song may actually be my ultimate #1, among other b-m songs in her discography. I love that simple, yet very infectious melody & romantic.classy, yet straight to the point lyrics... The video screams 1990s to me, and the chemistry between Janet & the luckiest dude in the world was undeniable.
This song started the iconic tradition of teasing men on stage during her show.
CAN'T WAIT FOR THE TOP5!

#5 Pleasure Principle 1986, Control
MikeCheck12 "My ultimate Janet track is "Pleasure Principle". I loved it in 1986 and still can't get enough today. And she rocked that video - just JANET!"
Ok the Top 5 is going to start of with a BANG! A classic pop anthem, with one of the best videos and choreography in the entire Janet catalogue. Basically she was the energizer bunny for 5:12 the bitch danced for her life. I don't mean dance like hey i can shuffle my feet or shake my hips/ass, I mean DANCE with precision and timing. Incredible.
I miss songs like this with a strong beat that just invoke organic feel good vibes and make you wanna dance but you can actually listen to the song too! nowadays lots of pop dance is basically fodder for clubs with a generic beat and no melody to speak of.
The song peaked in the top 15 on BB and the video went on to win a MTV award for "best choreography", even Britney Spears later said that her now famous dance routine was inspired and copied from the "Pleasure Principle", impact!
The song remains a classic, the video should be put in the hall of fame or a museum for other human beings to study and marvel at.

#5 Pleasure Principle Such a feel good song, perfect for the holidays. This is BY FAR my favorite video from Control. Her figure >>>> This MV alone shows what an influence Janet has on other performers…. How many of these girls tried to IMITATE this concept? I remember how I freaked out when she performed it @ BMAs 20yrs after Control happend. She killed it:

"The Pleasure Principle" would probably rank in my top 5 as well.
I always listen to the Shep Pettibone remix from the video.

#4 Nasty 1986 Control
"My first name ain't baby, it's Janet – Miss Jackson if you're nasty"
Back to Back to the "Control" record. A signature instantly recognizable pop anthem, when that beat drops everyone all over the world KNOWS that Miss Jackson is coming through! The beat is so bangin' , so hard it makes you wanna jump right up and start moving and the lyrics so direct that you wanna scream "Go Janet, tell em"
The entire album and this song was release of "Control" to others and gaining your own voice and strength, she basically read everybody for filth in beautiful music. This is a true definition of what we expect from someone with the last name Jackson!. The video was another one of those perfectly choreographed moments where she basically danced the entire video for her life.
Fun little fact in 2000, Missy and Janet were working on a remix sort of called "Nasty Girls 2000" featuring Aaliyah, ugh never happened, but can you imagine what a MOMENT that would be? ugh.
Janet on how "Nasty" came to be
"The danger hit home when a couple of guys started stalking me on the street. They were emotionally abusive. Sexually threatening. Instead of running to Jimmy or Terry for protection, I took a stand. I backed them down. That's how songs like 'Nasty' and 'What Have You Done for Me Lately' were born, out of a sense of self-defense. Control meant not only taking care of myself but living in a much less protected world. And doing that meant growing a tough skin. Getting attitude"
yasss girl!
One of Pulse posters wrote about the song as their personal favorite, skim over the Britney stanning moments and you find enough about their thoughts on "Nasty" xoxo
@touch "In the year 2007, Britney Spears released her album Blackout, which went on to become the most influential album of all time. Other pop stars took notice, and a new age of pop classics was born. Albums like Thriller, Ray of Light, and Elvis were lauded as "iconic"; but not without the mutual understanding that it was Britney Spears who inspired them. One artist in particular was notorious for modeling her work after what was dubbed the unofficial pop gospel: Janet Jackson.
Janet was a singer, performer, and dancer, not unlike Britney Spears; but her she could never find the same success. Britney reached out to Janet in an act of kindness, and together they entered to the studio to add polish to Janet's material. While in the studio, Britney played two tracks from Blackout, 'Gimme More' and 'Get Naked (I Got a Plan)' (the latter went on to inspire Madonna's Erotica album). Both tracks, with their barely-there vocals and homoerotic undertones, would light a fire in Janet, giving her the much needed inspiration to record a career-defning song called 'Nasty'. Featuring a similar structure to 'Get Naked', the song features subdued vocals over a heavy, 80s-urban beat. The song also features an almost-as-iconic-as-"It's Britney, Bitch" spoken-word identifier, not unlike the one in 'Gimme More': "My first name ain't baby, it's Janet – Miss Jackson if you're nasty". From this point forward, history would be rewritten, and Janet would be lauded as the second-best performer of our time (after Britney Spears). Truly, 'Nasty' is a modern-day classic and an iTunes essential.

#4 Nasty 1986 Control
"My first name ain't baby, it's Janet – Miss Jackson if you're nasty" What kind of fierceness? I love the harmonies on this one, she DID that! Her most lauded single and for good reason.

#3 I Get Lonely 1997, The Velvet Rope Obviously one of my favorite Janet songs of all time but really this was the handshake moment when I sealed the deal, to be a Janet stan for life. One of those perfectly crafted R&B midtempo numbers that is essentially the music I love. Its a perfect blend of sexy and seductive that is just makes me feel like I am in the middle of the song living out all her words. This is basically the perfect compliment to the still incredible "Velvet Rope" which was at its core a departure from dance pop, to a more authentic R&B rooted very much in its time. The feelings I get from this one song, sums up pretty much what i loved about that album.
Can we talk about how friggin gorgeous she looked in this video, this is what we call sex appeal! That on point dance routine and the flaw free face she served.
R&B classic, still as good today as back then. I dare you to listen and not bop for your life. That breakdown towards the end is sensational.
Fat Ass Kelly Price my favorite Janet. song is "I Get Lonely." Why? Because it makes me feel like a sexy butterfly. God "I Get Lonely" is actually my favorite song (ever, not just of Janet's). [2] Dem snaps! "Anything" from The Velvet Rose, as Nelly calls it, is my favorite non-single/album track/piece of Jesus/whatever. @antigonerising I get so lonely just because HOLY f**k THOSE BOOBS seriously the moment she rips her shirt open alone pretty much makes 1995-6 Janet the sexiest human being who ever existed in the history of time. No offense Beyonce/Jlo/Shakira fans but y'all will have to settle for duking it out over second place. Man...that is the rack I want to have when I grow up ok. I have dreams about waking up with that chest. Then I do wake up and it's a saaaaad moment

I loved both Timbaland remixes that era. The new hook on Go Deep has that great bounce to it.

#2 If 1993, Janet
The intro alone is known around the world, or as one Pulse poster said
The intro...ICONIC. The song... ICONIC. The breakdown...ICONIC. The music video...ICONIC. The choreography...ICONIC. Janet Jackson... ICONIC Linnethia Monique
Why I love it, is perfectly summed up by another poster who understands how iconic the beat and dance qualities of one of my favorite uptempo songs of all time
" one of Janet's most enduring dance tracks, bringing the rock and hip hop influences while killing every other bitch in the game performance wise. Who cares if you can't understand a word she sings in the verses? Also, I recommend the Kaytranada remix and Moon Boots' "Sugar" for anyone looking for a modern dance mix of the song." Janhova's Witness
Coco need not speak cause everything I wanted to say is being said for me, to take it all the home and wrap it up for me
My absolute favorite song from Janet Jackson is................IF
Iconic in every way, shape or form..."If" is sex. It's Janet's declaration of sexual dominance at the time. She seduces the listener from the very beginning and doesn't let go to the very end. Janet's vocal delivery makes the song intense and mysterious, the production could be overwhelming yet it is infectious and it leaves me begging for more. And that video? C'mon! I lost count how many times I've seen it. Me. I Am l!nk!nfan815...
Basically this describes the song theme perfectly.
"Jackson is consumed with sexual fantasies of a man who doesn't even know she exists. Wailing guitar chords and hip-hop programming move this punchy, fast-paced dance number as Jackson creates erotic pictures in the mind of her soon-to-be lover to get to his physique."
"A trip-hop fever dream of distorted guitars, trance-like backing vocals, and Janet’s erotic mumbles."
—Telegram & Gazette and Vulture.com on "If"
Basically a fierce, get your life uptempo that always remained as a true moment in Janet history for me and is the most played song over the years by me, it just makes me wanna dance, squirm in my seat, gives me happy and feel good and is everything I love about Janet, until I one day fell in love with another Janet song, the only that surpasses it for me.
