They're signed to WBR and apparently got a good push this week by the label. I can't decide yet if I like it, but it feels like it'll do well.

This is generic. It's not good.
It's not bad either.

I wish 21 adds were nothing special. There's nothing interesting about it.
This song is nothing special.

The sound of this is as generic indie as they come and lyrically this is pretty bad.

Hey everybody, This is Brandon from Priory. Obviously music is subjective and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just wanted to give you all a little background. Kyle and I have been at this for five years. We have been broke and stranded on tour and throughout the making of this album were forced to give plasma to survive. We recorded, engineered and produced this album ourselves. The song weekend is about the marginalization of the middle class and the way we act out in response. No one had their sticky fingers in our process. We are proud as hell of our entire album and we hope that you like some of it, but if not, I just felt I should say it does come from an honest place. THX

Crossfade once PMed me to say that if I didn't like their new single, I wouldn't like their new album. I have a way of getting to these bands.

priory, can you explain why your song exploded out of the gate with 21 adds (basically unheard of for a bands debut single)? Label stunt? How did it work?

Hey Devin, WB has an incredible team of people we get to work with...We use the same guy for alt radio as everyone else at WB, no extra hired guns if thats what you mean. I imagine DJ's are very protective of what they do or do not spin. All you can do is play them the song and see if they connect with it. You cant make everyone happy, but as long as we do not take ourselves to seriously and continue to make music our way, the other the s**t does not matter. We feel very fortunate to have such overwhelming feedback out the gate. By the way we are at 34 station adds as of yesterday. It is 6am here is Portland. I am going to go make some coffee.
Thanks Devin, I hope this answers your question.

Listened a second time and it was alright. This could actually be a decent grower.

I think I like this one, it's not revolutionary but it's not bad. Probably not memorable enough for me to want to pick it on a playlist but not a station-changer.
Btw, I wonder how many artists have accounts on Pulse posting undercover?

I like the production, but the lyrics really remind me of Rebecca Black's "Friday."

I still find it hard to believe that a newly signed band would waste their time posting on this trivial site.
But if you guys really are the band, why would you want to promote this poppy song towards Alternative radio and not Pop? There's no guitars or bass in the song, it's not rock at all. Why would you get this song to Alternative when it's not alternative and sounds just like a pop song?

Hey Dallas, The whole song is guitar and bass driven. We record everything live including drums. The thing that sounds like a synth in the verses is actually a bass with a harmonizer. The foundation of the chorus is all guitar. When we play live we are a 5 piece, two guitars, bass, synth and drums. I am posting on the forum because much to the dismay of our management, I am a nerd about this stuff and like to engage. Anyways.... I wish you all well.

Don't you guys worry that this song might be a bit too poppy for the Alternative format, which is based in rock music? to all my fellow rock boarders, I sound completely like when I first started, but I need to get the answers so bear with me for a while.

It's nice to see a future top 20 Alternative artist post here!
(prediction by the way, possible top 10)
I wish your band success! Catchy song, I can see it doing better in pop, but hey, Alternative can be an unpredictable genre.

Why would you get this song to Alternative when it's not alternative and sounds just like a pop song? I'm not quite understanding this notion that a song has to have guitars to be considered "alternative". Not that I like this song (lyrics pretty meh, I'm more or less indifferent to it), but I fail to see why the label wouldn't promote it to alternative radio. I mean, sure, alternative is a rock format at heart, but this song fits in perfectly fine with alternative's current indie pop-leaning state, and with Lorde having hit #1 with a song featuring nothing more than an electronic drum beat as instrumentation I fail to see how "having no guitars" would be an argument against that. Let's face it, in this era of alternative radio artists who aren't even strictly considered "rock" are perfectly capable of doing well on the format (and this has happened semi-frequently even throughout previous decades), and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Heck, even Macklemore has scored alt hits. (First post, figured I'd make an account after well over a year of lurking this forum, heh)

Some very weird trolling here.
First of all, as others are starting to say, alternative is NOT the same as active rock. By definition, it is open to significantly more interpretation--and subject to significantly less constraints--than some of the other genres. There is no rule that requires rock instrumentals. And there are plenty of songs that have traditional guitars, bass and drums (see much of the active rock chart) that would in no way be "alternative."
Second, why is that argument being applied to this thread anyway? Unless the version on Google Play is different than the one that is shipped to radio, there is a very obvious--and rather badass--guitar lick that runs through the song. It's not quite on the level of Jack White or anything like that, but there's a clear, crisp, impressive guitar track on this song.
Unless you don't understand what a guitar is or are judging this song with the mute button played, it is physically impossible to listen to this song and claim "there is no guitar" in it. I mean, that's a dead giveaway of trolling - it's saying something factually incorrect to just to get a rise out of people.
-- As for the song: the lyrics are very messy, but it's a well-produced, catchy, radio-friendly track that is going to do at least modestly well at the format.

^ You're right.
I think we should ask mediabase if they can create a format for post grunge, hard rock, and heavy metal songs so that fans of that music don't have to complain about it not being played on alternative.
Wait, such a format already exists? It's called...active...rock? Wow, I wouldnt have guessed with all the complaining in this forum.

I expect my Alt stations to play Active rock just as much as I expect my Pop stations to still play Nickelback and Daughtry.

There's definitely some audible bass and guitar in this song, don't get why the previous poster is trying to contend that there isn't (unless it's indeed trolling and I'm not in on the joke)
