In response to the Jason/ Tyler Farr posts:
The thing about Tyler Farr - his team annoyed some of the voters with their tactics for consideration. I saw several voters on my twitter feed tweeting about it. They were sending daily emails with false leading subject lines about big things that didn't involve Tyler. They came from various addresses - I assume blind or someone mirrored addresses that looked like official email address attached to the false leading subject lines. So people opened them thinking it was about big matters the subject lines claim but all they were were emails asking to vote for Tyler for New Artist of the Year. Those several voters I personally saw said that gave them a bad taste in their mouth and made them not vote for him. So I assume that's one reason of many why he didn't get the nomination that Jason felt Tyler deserves.

Prediction time! And some usual side commentary because...well, would you expect anything less from me? EntertainerLuke Bryan Miranda LambertBlake Shelton George Strait Keith Urban -Going into it with nine nominations (she's nominated for every single category she was able to be nominated in...) and having enough experience as a headliner than when she last received nine nominations + industry clout ('10), I think she's the clear winner this year. I hope she does win, too. In a year full of total and complete testosterone, seeing a woman take the top prize would be thrilling. I'm not against a Miranda love-fest this year because she truly deserves it with the great output that she's delivered from Platinum, but I'm really hoping there's a shift in gears soon. Granted, that would mean radio would have to start spinning more women than just Miranda and Carrie Underwood (gasp!), so that turning tide may not happen just yet. Male VocalistDierks Bentley Luke Bryan Eric Church Blake SheltonKeith Urban -Seeing as the CMAs pretty much have to find a way to award Shelton somehow (and judging by last year's terribly tacky campaigning strategy him and his team pulled by holding a "CMA Voters Afterparty" after one of his shows at Bridgestone ended), I think this is where they'll give him something. In a perfect world, Keith Urban's solid year would be recognized here. That, and he's the strongest vocalist of the five of them, but I think we've all come to learn that the vocalist awards don't really reflect vocal talent at all. Female Vocalist[/b Miranda Lambert Martina McBride Kacey Musgraves Taylor Swift Carrie Underwood -Duh.
Vocal Group The Band Perry Eli Young Band Lady Antebellum Little Big Town Zac Brown Band -Eli Young Band doesn't deserve to be in this category over Rascal Flatts, but they're pretty much done getting nominations from these shows, it seems. I think The Band Perry may finally see their first win in this category. Little Big Town shouldn't see a third win with only really having some touring and "Day Drinking" under their belt when TBP has 2 solid hits and tours (both domestic and international) that blow everyone else's stats away (barring maybe ZBB, but they're never going to win this trophy because of the label politics behind the CMAs).
Vocal Duo Dan + Shay Florida Georgia Line Love & Theft The Swon Brothers Thompson Square -Duh.
Single "Automatic", Miranda Lambert "Drunk On A Plane", Dierks Bentley "Give Me Back My Hometown", Eric Church "Meanwhile Back At Mama's", Tim McGraw ft. Faith Hill "Mine Would Be You", Blake Shelton -This is a neck-and-neck race for me between "Automatic" and "Meanwhile Back At Mama's". They're pretty much even in terms of achieved success and they've both seen strong critical and commercial acclaim. "Automatic" is the lead single from Platinum and had that hype going for it while 'Meanwhile' is the newest Tim/Faith duet that fans had been waiting on for quite some time. Ultimately, I went with "Automatic" because it's the 49th Annual Crown Miranda Awards.
Song "Automatic", Miranda Lambert "Follow Your Arrow", Kacey Musgraves "Give Me Back My Hometown", Eric Church "I Don't Dance", Lee Brice "I Hold On", Dierks Bentley -Love all of these, truly. This category is absolutely stacked, but I'm feeling adventurous enough to pick "Follow Your Arrow" just because I don't think Kacey Musgraves (or Brandy Clark) will nab a win anywhere else.
Album Crash My Party, Luke Bryan Fuse, Keith Urban The Outsiders, Eric Church Platinum, Miranda Lambert Riser, Dierks Bentley -I'll be stunned if Miranda Lambert doesn't take it.
New Artist Brandy Clark Brett Eldredge Kip Moore Thomas Rhett Cole Swindell -I think Kip Moore's had too quiet of a year to win, Thomas Rhett is too "bro-ey" when comparing his nomination to the rest of this year's nominations across all of the categories (they went with quality over quantity this year, for sure), Swindell is too new, and Clark is too under-the-radar (even though she's delivered, far and away, the best music of the five of them). Brett Eldredge seems like a safe choice for me to pick.
Video "Automatic", Miranda Lambert "Bartender", Lady Antebellum "Drunk On A Plane", Dierks Bentley "Follow Your Arrow", Kacey Musgraves "Somethin' Bad", Miranda Lambert & Carrie Underwood -"Drunk On A Plane" just seems so overshadowed by the other 4. "Follow Your Arrow"'s video is too boring to deserve this, and "Bartender" came out around the same time as "Somethin' Bad" did and got completely overlooked because SB's video is fantastic. I don't know why "Automatic" is there. It was a great video, but why did the label submit 2 ML videos? Split-voting may rob SB's video of a very deserving win, but I'm picking it to win anyways. That, and it'd be nice to see Carrie hold a CMA Award again. It'd be the first time since 2008(!).
Musical Event Bakersfield, Vince Gill and Paul Franklin "Meanwhile Back At Mama's", Tim McGraw feat. Faith Hill "Somethin' Bad", Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood "We Were Us", Keith Urban feat. Miranda Lambert "You Can't Make Old Friends", Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton -Bakersfield is too commercially handicapped to compete with the other four, although "You Can't Make Old Friends" wasn't a hit by any means (and that's a crying shame). I'd love to see it win, but it won't against the likes of Hill, McGraw, Lambert, Underwood, and Urban. Again, I think Miranda Lambert's two collaborations will split-vote themselves out (ridiculous). That, and I think the Tim/Faith duet will get recognized with an award somewhere, so this seems like the most likely place for it to see a win.
-Jason Aldean's newest released interview with Rolling Stone: Country.
What I have to say on this front? I'm glad he didn't get any nominations. "I don't think there is anybody else out there with maybe the exception of Bryan?" Really? Because Tim & Kenny didn't just do a massive stadium tour, Luke Bryan hasn't been selling out stadiums (that "maybe," though...), Taylor Swift didn't have the biggest Country tour of all time (genre is subjective, but she was still labeling herself as Country during the Red Tour), and George Strait didn't crush the record for most concert-goers at a single show by anyone in any genre of music, ever?
Pretty sure people like Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, and many more that have seen just as much (if not, more) success than Aldean on numerous fronts have all been snubbed from EOTY in year's past, and I don't ever recall seeing them raise such a stink about it. They went on with their careers and continued to dominate the competition. A trophy means little in retrospect and the fact that he bitched and moaned to Rolling Stone about it just shows how materialistic artists in today's world have gotten. Be thankful and be happy for everything that you have (I'm sure Aldean is) and stop belly-aching about not getting a trophy that basically tells you "good job!"
Also, boohoo at Tyler Farr not getting a New Artist nomination. Seriously, I'm sure Jason Aldean is well aware of how many new artists (pretty much all male) came onto the scene this past year and saw success. Farr isn't the only one that didn't get a nomination. And lol @ the "This is How We Roll" call-out. Look at the nominations closely, Mr. Aldean. It seems as though the CMAs opted to go for a more critically-acclaimed set of nominees this year. Crazy world we live in, huh? As if TIHWR is anywhere near any of the nominees in the Musical Event category in any way, shape, or form, lol.
Cute interview. I needed a good laugh. As a big Flatts fan, I can say with certainty that they whined in the press when they didn't get the nominations for ETOY or album during an earlier era. Honestly, as much as I enjoy reading interviews and seeing an artists prospective, I HATE when any of them complain about not getting certain nominations. It's one thing to say "I was disappointed," but it really shows arrogance when an artist says "I sold more than artist X, so I deserved this nomination." Being an artist isn't about awards, and it's a damn shame that the Country music community tends to hold such things in such an esteemed manner, because it's just a trophy. On the subject of Aldean, I do think he earned several nominations based on the year he had, but his arrogant attitude and mediocre music leaves much to be desired, so anyway...

Excited for Miranda's performance because it's probably the next single.

So far, the list of performers includes: Luke Bryan Miranda Lambert Blake Shelton Keith Urban Carrie Underwood Brad Paisley Little Big Town Lady Antebellum The Band Perry
Aka, the usual suspects. I expect Kenny Chesney and Eric Church to occupy spots, too. After that, I really don't know, and since the only performer I really even care to watch has now been confirmed to sing, I really don't care, lol.

First post is updated with the confirmation of the new performers.
As for more performances I look for FGL to be added for sure, Kenny if he wants to be, Kacey if she is ready to release new music, and George Strait.

I would think that both Garth and Trisha will perform, since they will be releasing albums in November. Trisha is also one of the only other females they could ask unless, like bigfan101 stated, Kacey has music ready (but I have my doubts on that). They won't (and shouldn't) ask Taylor, and I don't foresee Sara Evans getting a performance spot either. Aside from them, who else is there? Maddie & Tae are probably still too new, and there really aren't any other females doing anything on the charts. It would be beyond awesome if they were to ask Lee Ann Womack to perform but I'm not holding my breath waiting for that announcement. If there were 4 or 5 females announced to perform, I think a middle-aged artist like Trisha would have trouble getting a spot, but since there are so few and since she is now on Sony with an album due out in mid-November, I think that will work to her benefit (even though I don't expect "Prize Fighter" to be a very big hit). And I think the CMA will want Garth to perform since he's officially 'un-retired' so that should also work in Trisha's favor. I don't exactly expect George Strait to perform, though. He doesn't have any current music so unless he does a duet or is part of some tribute-type of performance, I don't know what he would perform. He and his team definitely won't (or hopefully won't) do any sort of 'farewell tour' type of performance as that would only give radio a reason to not play his material when he does come back with new music. Obviously his radio success is dwindling and will continue to do so, but George has made it pretty clear that he's only done touring, not making new music. So I don't think he'll want to perform anything like "The Cowboy Rides Away" to give the impression that he's retiring. Florida Georgia Line will obviously be announced in the next round of performers. Dierks Bentley will almost certainly get a spot, too, given the amount of nominations he has. Tim, Kenny, and Eric seem very likely to get performance spots as well. If Zac Brown Band has a new single ready to go by then I'm sure they'll be asked to perform. Other possibilities would be Brantley Gilbert, Jake Owen, Hunter Hayes, and maybe Brett Eldredge. I'm pretty sure they'll ask Jason Aldean as well, even though he voiced his displeasure at not being nominated for anything. He's too big of a name to ignore--they'll want him for ratings.

I would expect that as the most-nominated male artist, Dierks will be performing as well.

Could you see one of those 90-second performances for Maddie + Tae? They have several things going for them. Not many women really make sense to sing, they are one of the most buzzed about new artists to hit the scene in a while and they have Scott Borchetta on their side. I could see them sending it into commercial or introducing the radio station winners or something like that. I will guarantee something: Kellie Pickler will present an award. I cannot remember the last CMA awards that Kellie didn't present.

I personally would love to see see Lee Ann Womack kick off the show with "The Way I'm Livin'," but alas I'd only be day dreaming to think that'll even happen. I'm not quite sure yet who I expect to kick off the show...maybe a "People Loving People" kind of night? Much like jhomes87 said above, I'm not expecting George Strait to perform unless he is going to debut something new (but I doubt he'll be ready for any new material until next year). If he does perform it'll likely be during a tribute montage. I'm not sure what they'll do with Jason Aldean...I'm still somewhat baffled by his lack of nominations and I'm not even sure he'll want to show up.

Maddie + Tae should definitely get a performance slot with the way they've absolutely crushed the media storm lately with the GIACS frenzy. However, seeing as the CMAs aren't exactly going solely off of big buzz this year (see: Jason Aldean), I won't hold my breath. Also, agreed (sadly) on the Kellie Pickler presenting slot. I mean, at least she gets to be there, but it'd be such a treat if she could actually perform again. I'm not sure what they'll do with Jason Aldean...I'm still somewhat baffled by his lack of nominations and I'm not even sure he'll want to show up. Depending on what he'd end up performing, that could be a real gift for a lot of us. Oops, did I type that? Silly me.

Jason Aldean looks to stomp out gossip with 'Old Boots'Fans may not be the only ones who need a little nudge to put the past behind them. When nominations for the 48th annual CMA Awards were announced last month, Aldean, who is the Academy of Country Music's reigning male vocalist of the year, was left out. The fact puzzles Aldean because not only did he have one of the biggest hits of the year with multiweek No. 1 song "When She Says Baby," but his Burnin' It Down Tour also filled ballparks and amphitheaters across the country. "Everybody that's in that stuff is talented and doing their thing," Aldean said. "But if (I didn't get votes) because of all of my personal stuff, I wouldn't understand that. If they are going to start throwing a morals clause on all that stuff, I mean there's a lot of people that would have never won entertainer of the year. There's people that are nominated this year that shouldn't have been nominated."Wade Jessen, senior chart manager for Billboard in Nashville, said he wouldn't "directly refute" that Aldean's personal drama had an impact on the CMA nominations, but said it couldn't be substantiated either. "It's difficult to pin down," Jessen said. "I think those nominations tend to fall the way business is falling at the moment ballots are cast. But if you look at the year Jason Aldean had, it would make me scratch my head, too." The Country Music Association's criteria for entertainer of the year states the award is for displaying the greatest competence in all aspects of entertainment. Consideration is given to recorded and live performances, staging, public acceptance, attitude, leadership and contribution to the image of the genre. "Is Jason Aldean a qualified artist for entertainer of the year? Absolutely," said Sarah Trahern, chief executive officer of the Country Music Association. "The up side is that we have many more eligible acts than lines on the ballot, which speaks to the current strength of the format. In cases where someone wasn't included as a finalist, I have to trust that the success of their tours, philanthropy and album sales speak for themselves." Not only am I completely sick and tired of Aldean continuing to bitch about not getting nominated this year, but I'm extremely annoyed that members of the CMA are now commenting on it. Uh, I'm sorry -- where were they when there was a massive uproar (which was larger than Aldean's uproar) over Underwood's snubs in '10 and '13? Those snubs were far more glaring and ridiculous, and she kept her mouth shut both times. If he's that pissy, why is he even performing?
Note to Jason Aldean: shut the hell up. You live an incredibly lavish lifestyle. Awards and nominations don't define your career, so chill the hell out, stop backhandedly insinuating that you're more worthy of awards over everyone else in the format, and play your music.

Good Lord, Aldean either needs to shut his mouth or learn when to keep his comments to himself.
He said his piece intially, but to continue to respond with the same "poor me" comments is absolutely ridiculous and immature on his part. Maybe if he doesn't want people to judge him, he should choose his words more carefully and STOP playing the victim.
I used to like his music quite a bit, but I cannot stomach listening to his music or hearing the arrogant crap that comes out of his mouth when he gives interviews.

The part of the interview that stuck out the most to me was this comment: "There's people that are nominated this year that shouldn't have been nominated." Just who is Jason referencing? Would he care to expand on that comment and share his opinion on who shouldn't have been nominated? I enjoy Jason's music, but he is treading a thin line here. And I'm sure this just isn't my opinion, but he could stand to at least smile once in a while. The guy just looks miserable at these award shows.
Jason's performance at the CMA's should be very, very interesting.

I kind of smiled today when I saw that the comments on something posted about Jason Aldean on CMT's Facebook page were mostly negative. If only that would start tp reflect in his popularity at the country format.

I'm actually still on Jason's side here. He's trying to pick up the pieces of his screwup and people still won't let it go. Everyone makes mistakes and there comes a point in time where you gotta move on. If the public would let it go I bet his attitude would improve. And yes, he should've been nominated. Not many artists are playing stadium shows. He is, and his sales are very strong. He deserves recognition for that.

Even the comments he made "defending" Luke and bro Country awhile back seemed loaded with bitterness and a hurt ego to me. If he thinks people should "let it go" he should focus on his music, rather then defending his relationship. If he wants his career to be the focus, there's NO reason why he can't say "no comment" when it comes to his personal life and focus on music. He's quick to blame everyone else, but it seems he's happy to display that chip on his shoulder.

Of course he defended Luke, they're good buddies. Luke would do the same thing for him. It's like he can't win here. I'm trying to look at it from his point of view here. It's got to be frustrating to have this big of a year and not be recognized. To try rebuilding your life and people still focus on your past. Basically, I can understand WHY that chip on his shoulder is there. I can ALSO see a way to remove that chip and a lot of that falls on the public, not him. Does that make sense?

Even removing his personal life issues from the equation, he still devalued his peers' accomplishments by trying to say that he deserves it more. That's as trashy a move as anyone could make. A lot of people deserve recognition for their accomplishments from this past year, but they aren't all going to be getting it. He's not the only one that was snubbed, and he isn't the first one to be snubbed this blatantly. Can't understand why anyone would be on his side in this at all, but I guess everyone has their own perspective on things.

I might have laughed a little but yes, thought I'd share. Brian Mansfield 6 hrs · Nashville, TN · Just got notice that final voting for the CMA Awards begins tomorrow. Now I'm sending a notice of my own: If I get an email about your nominee, and it lists a fake Sender, I'm voting for somebody else. And if you think that sort of thing doesn't matter, ask Tyler Farr why he didn't get a New Artist of the Year nomination despite a #1 single.

He's right that some people shouldn't have been nominated this year though. I can think of at least two if not more. I'm on his side because I try to see the good in people and understand where they're coming from.

Even if that's the case though (that some people shouldn't have been nominated), it's just not a respectful thing to say that others didn't deserve their nominations while implying that you yourself should have been nominated. No one should ever say stuff like that. The nominations don't always reflect popularity. It's always gonna be subjective.

I know there's good in Jason Aldean (I believe there's good in everyone), but he's being an ass in this situation.

Not that I was impressed with the constant whining, but saying that some of the nominees don't deserve it is in really poor taste. It's one thing to think it (and I think it every year to some degree), but for a high-profile artist to say it in the media just isn't right.

I could be completely off-base, but as I understand his comments in context, Jason Aldean is not actually suggesting that there are CMA nominees this year who shouldn't be nominated. He seems to be saying that if his personal life is why he is not nominated for the CMAs this year, he "wouldn't understand that" in light of some of the people who have previously won Entertainer of the Year, and that if his personal life is what kept him out of the CMA nominations this year, then some of the people who are nominated this year shouldn't be, either. In other words, I took Jason's point to be that he is neither the first nor the only high-profile country artist who has made mistakes in his personal life, so he doesn't see why that would or should negatively impact his chances to get CMA nominations. Now, it's debatable whether alluding to the transgressions of his fellow artists is an especially gracious move, but I don't think he actually intends to be critical of his peers. Not only am I completely sick and tired of Aldean continuing to bitch about not getting nominated this year, but I'm extremely annoyed that members of the CMA are now commenting on it. Uh, I'm sorry -- where were they when there was a massive uproar (which was larger than Aldean's uproar) over Underwood's snubs in '10 and '13? Those snubs were far more glaring and ridiculous, and she kept her mouth shut both times. Well, there were certainly a number of artists who spoke out about the 2010 CMA Entertainer nominations, and Reba specifically said that she thought that "Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts" deserved nominations that year over Zac Brown Band, Lady Antebellum and Miranda Lambert. But that's probably part of the uproar (which extended to Entertainment Weekly, USA Today and beyond) to which you are referring. As for why CMA members are commenting now, I think the reason is simple and identical to the reason Jason Aldean is talking about his shutout from the CMA Awards nominations: they were asked. I remember the ACM's Bob Romeo commenting in 2011 about Carrie having been left out of the Entertainer nods that year and there, too, he was asked (by Aircheck, I think?). With respect to 2013's Entertainer snub, I think the media (aside from Brian Mansfield of USA Today, who tweeted his frustration), has pretty much given up on that particular subject and won't pick it up again unless nudged to do so by Carrie and/or her team (which doesn't seem likely to happen).
