"It was the summer before the real world started"
"Most days in life don't stand out, but life's about those days that will"
"When the winds go cold and it blows October, I think about us shoulder to shoulder, Like those cars my thoughts roll over and over and over"
From Eric Church's "Talladega" (Eric Church, Luke Laird)

Jeff Carson - "The Car" (writers: C. Michael Spriggs, Gary Heyde)
"I opened up the note, and found a set of keys Here's your car son, I hope it flies"
"It's not the car that you're needing but the chance to be with you I hope you understand I always did The best that I could do So little time, and we spent way too much apart There will always be a part of us together in that car"
Those lines get me every time.

Those are some nice lyrics. I always liked how he managed to work his name into the song, too ("here's your car son").

Definitely a great song.

Sunny Sweeney's Provoked is loaded with great lyrics, so this post brought to you by Miss Sweeney: Didn’t we talk about this in Memphis? By Little Rock you said you meant it And here we are again and it’s startin’ to rain
So before you say "I love you" I need to say "Goodbye" I know you’re hangin’ on so I’m hangin’ up Before you change my mind Texas over and out, Carolina still on the line- Sunny Sweeney, "Carolina on the Line" Well the last the time you called him, I was sitting on his lap He had his hand up under my sweater rubbin' on my back He was lookin' in my eyes, tellin' you lies It was all I could take You can bet I’m woman enough to tell it to your face- Sunny Sweeney, "You Don't Know Your Husband" Don't know what I did wrong but when I walked through the crowd they all divided Somebody could've told me I was uninvited
Just when I went around the corner Suddenly you appeared Nobody told me, somebody should've told me Why didn't they tell me? You were were here- Sunny Sweeney, "Uninvited" I don't want 'em all to see me cry I don't wanna have to lie In the Good Lord's house 'bout why I'd be there alone While mama's liftin' up her prayers I'm just smokin' cigarettes And drinkin', drinkin' in my Sunday dress- Sunny Sweeney, "Sunday Dress" Oh look sabre14 another song about drinkin' in a Sunday dress. ;)

And take a picture with your father 'Cause one day he'll be gone
- Chris Young, "The Shoebox"
This is a really poignant line for me because my family doesn't take a lot of photos together, especially as my sister and I have gotten older and holidays/vacations/etc. have been less of an "event." When my father passed away last year, we had almost no recent photos of him because the few times pictures were taken, he was behind the camera instead of in front of it, and there were literally no pictures I took with him. I wish that I could go back and change that. That lyric really hits home for me now. :'(

Toby Keith - "My List" (Tim James, Rand Bishop)
"It wouldn't change the course of fate, but cuttin' grass just had to wait Cause I've got more important things, like pushing my kid on a backyard swing I won't break my back for a million bucks, I can't take to my grave So why put off for tomorrow, what I could get done today"

"When I found out that you were cheatin’, I could’ve got mad, but I got even. I did what the ticked-off told me to:
I took it downtown and I cheated on you."

"You know, the things I've come to know seem so confusin' It's gettin' hard to tell what's wrong from right I can't separate the winners from the losers anymore So I'm thinkin' 'bout of just giving up the fight." -Billy Joe Shaver/Kris Kristofferson, "Good Christian Soldier"
"Some pious people point and call me sinner Because to them I've never seen the light Other folks think of me as a preacher I'm just doin' what I think is right
The wealthy people think that I am a hobo Lean and hungry, writin' mournful songs And the poor, poor people think I am a rich man But really, I'm just tryin' to get along
It's funny I don't fit Tell me where have all the average people gone?" -Roger Miller, "Where Have All the Average People Gone"

"I woke up this mornin' and I swore to God I'd never, ever take another drink again" - George Strait, "Drinkin' Man" (Since this is such a beautifully written tune, it was really difficult for me to pick a favorite line or verse.)

Blackwater Hattie lived back in the swamp, where the strange green reptiles crawl Snakes hang thick from the cypress trees like sausage on a smokehouse wall Where the swamp is alive with a thousand eyes and all of 'em watching you Stay off of the track of Hattie's shack, in the back of the black bayou

Anything off of James McMurtry's latest album, or really anything in his entire career. His lyrics are probably the strongest out of any artists out there IMO.

We all wrangle with religion We all talk, but we don't listen We're all starving for attention then we'll run We're all paper, we're all scissors We're all fightin' with our mirrors Scared we'll never find somebody to love Kacey Musgraves - Somebody To Love
Actually, the whole song is magnificently written.

I let your love in, I have the scar I felt the razor against my heart I thought we were both in all the way But you caught it by the handle And I caught it by the blade
You said "goodbye, it's not the end And if you need me, I'm still your friend" Well, that's easy for you to say Cause you caught it by the handle And I caught it by the blade
That's the risk you run when you love, when you love And you give it all you've got to give Knowing all along there's a chance, there's a chance You'll reach and they won't You'll bleed and they don't
For you, it's over; for me, it's not I kept trying and you just stopped Now I know how you can sound so brave Cause you caught it by the handle, baby And I caught it by the blade
Ashley Monroe- The Blade

Toby Keith's "If A Man Answers" has some of the most effective end-of-verse lines I have ever heard.
"If a man answers, I won't call again. And I'll know where I stand while I twist in the wind."
"But if a man answers, you'll never know. He'll let you sleep while I let you go."

"Everything I need ain't too hard to find. So I don't waste my time complaining, cause I don't see how I could. It's all good. - -Montgomery Gentry: "It's All Good"
"Someday I'm gonna get you that white picket fence, and that little pink house just like Mellencamp said. Cause I want to taste the good life before the Lord puts us to bed..girl keep holding on, keep hangin in." - Kip Moore: "Comeback Kid"
"When you're young, there's plenty of time to get older. Once you're old, that's all you'll ever be. Yeah there's a beauty to living life wild and free. It's just one of those things you gotta be young to see" - ---Charlie Worsham: "Young To See"
"Call it intuition, or call it crazy Just thought by now I'd be pushing up daisies But I'd gladly stick around if we're together So baby when you bow your head tonight, Could you tell the Lord I've changed my mind And with you I'd like to live forever" - Eric Church: "A Man Who Was Gonna Die Young"
"It ain't about the money you make when a record gets sold. It's about doing it for nothin' cause it lives in your soul" - Eric Church: "That's Damn Rock n Roll"
