Brett Young - "You Ain't Here To Kiss Me"
"Love birds in the row in front of me are driving me crazy"
during the first two chorus'
...then the last chorus...
"Love birds in the row in front of me just like we used to be"
Subtle but such a great touch, lyrically.

"Now who of us hasn't been heading home on Friday Sitting at some traffic light Wondering what would happen if we hung a left Instead of takin' that faithful old right It's the human condition A part of us wishes that life wouldn't get so tame And we all know better than to think that's ever gonna change"

We ain't got much of nothin' but we sure is proud Y'all better listen up, you heard it straight from my mouth I'm from the deep south - Josh Turner, "Deep South"
I love the grammar of 'we sure is proud.' Very true-to-form. This line wouldn't really stand out to me if they had used 'are' instead.

Mary Chapin Carpenter - "Only a Dream" "And when I look up at you looking down, Say it was only a dream..."This song gets me every single time. Probably one of the best things ever written, imo. There is so much going on here, in what is at first listen a simple song. This is MCC's masterpiece, imo.

I used to like "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus despite it's vague lyrics but after really paying attention to the lyrics, I think it's not vague cliches anymore.
"There's always gonna be another mountain I'm always gonna wanna make it move Always gonna be a uphill battle Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there Ain't about what's waiting on the other side It's the climb
The struggles I'm facing The chances I'm taking Sometimes might knock me down But no, I'm not breaking
I may not know it But these are the moments that I'm gonna remember most, yeah Just gotta keep going
And I, I got to be strong Just keep pushing on
'Cause there's always gonna be another mountain I'm always gonna wanna make it move Always gonna be an uphill battle Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there Ain't about what's waiting on the other side It's the climb, yeah!"
The narrator admits that sometimes we will fail. She also admits she has no idea what's on the other side of the mountains she's climbing, but she does it anyway. I think that's something not brought up too many times with this subject. The message of the song is to keep trying your best and keep dreaming, even if you end up crashing and burning...just pick up the pieces and do it all over again. It's about true perseverance. Sort of like the message of Old Dominion's new single, "No Such Thing As A Broken Heart."

"When I close my eyes and you and I stuck on the ferris wheel rocking with the motion, hand in hand we cried and laughed knowing that loved belong to us girl if only for a moment and "Baby I'll be back again" you whispered in my ear but now the winter wind is the only sound and everything is closing down Til Summer Comes Around"

I'm prayin' from the pulpit As a single tears fall down They haven't caught the culprit He's still runnin' loose in town She leaves behind a long, long line of men who acted rotten But we're on the trail of the fool who put the last nail in the coffin - RaeLynn, "Graveyard"

Somebody's leavin' I don't care who But there's not enough room in my mind for two It's finally come down to me or you
Sons Of The Desert - Whatever Comes First
Really this whole song is outstanding but that line is really clever.

You've been standin' right by me Sharin' thse crazy dreams Well, I thought for sure this time we found a home But it's been harder than we knew And I wouldn't be here without you Are you gonna make me walk this road alone? Baby, don't quit me now, we still got a long way to go Well, the sun's gone down and the sky is burnin' red I'm sittin' on the porch and just put the baby to bed Well, whatever you're goin' through I'll be right here waitin' for you That's the one thing in this world you gotta know Baby, don't quit me now, we still got a long way to go
-- James House, "Don't Quit Me Now"
====
It almost goes unnoticed to the naked eye But a half-moon finally turns full all in good time And I've been making headway inch by inch since you've been gone I've accepted the fact you're not coming back, I'm moving on And little by litle, I'm letting go Slowly but surely, I'm holding my own yes Little by little, I'll make it through Hey, I took the fall, but in no time at all I'll be over you
-- James House, "Little by Little"
====
tl;dr: James House is freaking amazing, go listen to his stuff.

One foot on the bus bout half past nine I knew that you were leaving this time I thought about laying down in its path Thinking that you might get off for that ... I'll move on baby just like you When the desert floods and the grass turns blue When a sailing ship don't need her moon It'll break my heart but I'll get through

You laid me down, whispered in my ear, I hate my life hold onto me, Ah if you ever decide to leave then I'll go, I'll go, I'll go
Kenny Chesney Somewhere With You
There is something dark and mysterious that I love about that lyric.

Surprised that with Chris Stapleton's new album out, nobody's added any lyrics here. There are some great ones.
My favorite from the album is....
"People call me the Picasso of painting the town."- "Up to No Good Livin'"

"People call me the Picasso of painting the town."- "Up to No Good Livin'" The line in "Either Way" that is one of those stop-you-in-your-tracks lines to me is "You can go or you can stay/I won't love you either way" Two simple lines but they tell sooooo much of a story. Just a great line that stands out to me more than probably any other lyric he's ever had.

Is there life out there? So much she hasn't done? Is there life beyond her family and home? She's done what she should, should she do what dares? She doesn't wanna leave, she's just wondering, is there life out there?
Probably one of my favourite choruses of all time

One that I really like is "I've got tears all over my windshield and rain pouring out of my eyes" from "A Heart with 4 Wheel Drive" by 4 Runner.

"Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance"
Lee Ann Womack "I Hope You Dance"
I know many find this song cliche fest. But this line right here has always had an impact on me.

"A week full of weekends ain't all there is to life I still find there's quite a difference between a girl friend and a wife"
-Tammy Wynette: "There's Quite a Difference"
I would encourage all bro-country writers and artists to really read and understand this line. Read it a couple times, dissect it, let it sink in.
