Kip Moore - "That Was Us", 3rd verse:
Mary Lee started hangin', started talkin' With a boy with a checkered past It wasn't long before he showed his true colors And he left her all blue and black
Cops stopped us runnin' ninety With a loaded pistol and a bottle of booze And it's a good damn thing the blue lights got us 'fore we did what we's gonna do
These lyrics are haunting, and then the key change right afterwards as he goes into the chorus again...this song is a true masterpiece.

Couldn't agree more. Volume knob goes from 10 to 11 when that key change happens. I feel like so many people, particularly younger can relate to it so much. A dark, nostalgic, happy song all at the same time. Great campfire singalong too. Just a total gem. My 2nd favorite Kip song behind Girl of the Summer. Hearing it at one of his concerts is a must too. Everyone there knows every single word. Probably the song his fans love most.

"I sold what I could and packed what I couldn't. Stopped to fill up on my way out of town. I've loved like I should, but lived like I shouldn't. I had to lose everything to find out. Maybe forgiveness will find me somewhere down this road"
Rascal Flatts "I'm Moving On"
That last part and that song still shake me down to my core.

Oh it took three hundred days For the timbers to be raised And the silhouette was seen for miles around And the gables reached as high As the eagles in the sky But it only took one night to bring it down When Darby's castle tumbled to the ground

Jason Aldean - "Fly Over States" 2nd Chorus:
On the plains of Oklahoma With a windshield sunset in your eyes Like a watercolor painted sky You'd think heaven's doors have opened You'll understand why God made Those fly over states
Also later in the song:
Take a ride across the badlands Feel that freedom on your face Breathe in all that open space
The whole song is stunning lyrically and I especially love these two. Incredible song!

I could post every lyric from Kacey's Golden Hour here, but I'll just post some of my favorite lyrics from what's my probably my favorite song on the album: "Rainbow."
When it rains, it pours But you didn't even notice It ain't raining anymore It's hard to breathe when all you know is The struggle of staying above the rising water line Well the sky has finally opened
The rain and wind stopped blowing But you're stuck out in the same ol' storm again You hold tight to your umbrella Well darling, I'm just trying to tell ya That there's always been a rainbow hanging over your head
If you could see what I see You'd be blinded by the colors Yellow, red, and orange, and green And at least a million others So tie up the boat, take off your coat, and take a look around

"Well she was like my guitar Always waiting around just to be in my arms But you can't play with a heart Shouldn't ever have left her alone in the dark" Dierks Bentley's One Way (2nd verse). My instant tells me Jeff Hyde at least co-wrote this part. This is quite good comparison and contrast between the two things.

More Jeff Hyde goodness now that the lyrics of his debut album are available on Genius. "Started out raining kittens and puppies Just my luck it's turning into cats and dogs But I'm gonna hold her in my arms again Even if I have to swim to baby by tonight" --Baby By Tonight "When she drops you like a habit In a flash you'll run a gamut of emotions" --The Filter

"I Get the Picture" - Keith Whitley (written by Fred Koller & Don Cook)
One of the best story-songs I've ever heard - pulls you in with the first verse, rips your heart out with the chorus, then a big twist in the second verse sets up the chorus with a changed meaning to rip your heart out even more. Just a masterpiece of heartbreak.
The moving van is waitin' for the rain to stop Your agent put a sign up in the yard I wondered was there anything that you'd forgot I guess that goodbye's got to be this hard One last look around the rooms that we both shared I knew I couldn't stay here by myself I saw a box and wondered why you'd left it out Right there on the bedroom closet shelf Faded yellow photos of a boy and girl Smiling in the blazing Texas sun It must have been the year before your daddy died He tried to warn me then this day would come
I get the picture though the love has gone away I get the picture though your memory will fade I get the picture
Wasn't that the guy you told me you forgot Oh what's his name who never made you laugh But I never made you smile the way you're smilin' here By his side in this faded photograph Last night when I met you at your lawyer's house I wondered bout the guy who dropped you off Guess I prob'ly never place this smiling face If you hadn't left behind this box
I get the picture though the love has gone away I get the picture though your memory will fade I get the picture

I always thought this should have been a single.

A father always tries to treat a boy just like a man
And he saw his had a way to work through life with his two hands
He knew that he was dying but before his days were done
After he said all his goodbyes he asked one more thing of his son
Well his old man died in April and he went to build a box
Every nail and every board was a tear that never dropped
Then he had a baby boy born on the same day as his dad
So he took his name to give him, it's the best thing that he had

"Carry On" by Tim McGraw has one of my favorite opening lyrics ever. Written by Mark Collie, Hillary Kanter, Even Stevens.
"Mama went to sleep one night and never woke up Daddy cried a tear into her old coffee cup Now all he wants to do is drink the hurt all the way But if mama was here I know what mama would say"
