LOL Only No. 2?
I did have Spotify downloaded, but just never got into it. Am sure it's good, though, as it seems to be well-liked by users.

My collection is big enough that I have no use for Spotify. Hey HG, edited my post again - LOL

Spotify sounds great, but it is short term gratification.
If the company (or trend) disappears within 10 years, you are left with nothing, right?
If you own something, it's yours forever.

I've latched on to all the new music consumption trends fairly quickly, but the concept of not owning content at all and just streaming on-demand 100% of the time has a long way to win me over. I think it works best for the casual music listener who just wants to be able to listen to popular hits fast, easy, and cheap (which is the majority of music listeners) but not for people who have more extensive catalogues of music or listen to a great deal of music that's out of print or hasn't been licensed for streaming. I tried creating some of my iTunes playlists in Spotify at one point, and in some cases, up to 30-40% of the music in the playlists weren't even available (or at least available in the version I own).

If you own something, it's yours forever. Not true. I've gone thru 3 computers in the last 6 or 7 years and lost my music each time. Now I have a blank iTunes. I don't even go to iTunes anymore cuz I simply don't care anymore. I go to Pandora or Youtube.

Nothing guarantees it's yours "forever," but owning the content allows you a greater degree of control. With streaming, licensing issues or label politics can have those songs removed from your collection at any point.

Not exactly true. I've had playlists stored offline on my computer and phone for a couple years now with Spotify, which basically makes it seem like the same thing as iTunes.

I think Spotify is the easiest way to listen to albums and find songs if you're a music lover. At the moment I'm listening to a debut album by a Finnish indie band, an album which I could never find anywhere without buying the record. All this joy costs a bit over 10 dollars/month (9,99 euros)

The cd is on it's way out, just like dvd's, in the same way vhs and cassette tapes are long gone. Everything will eventually all be online for free, including the internet. Just a matter of time.

What happens if you cancel your subscription or forget to pay the monthly bill My subscription ran out recently and I actually didn't notice until adverts started playing lol. All my playlists stayed intact which is fine, so now I'm just going to pay month by month, rather than have it paid automatically like I used to. If Spotify shut down completely, now THAT would be a problem. But it wouldn't be the end of the world, I'd just use another streaming site, but it would definitely be a shame to lose all my playlists. But even if this scenario did happen, you can easily make a playlist of 100 songs in under 10 minutes (probably under 2 minutes if you're chucking entire albums onto the playlist). You could also use somebody else's public playlists if the site allows that.

Spotify automatically bills you every month, so you don't have to remember to keep paying, unless you choose an option to pay yourself on a month by month basis, which I don't know if there is such an option, it's been a long time since I signed up. And yes, if you do cancel your subscription, when you go back online it probably will remove all your playlists, but like someone said, it wouldn't be the end of the world, you could go to another streaming service. Or you can always mix and match, which is what I do. If you want a core music collection that you know you'll want to keep and and listen to for a long time, you can always buy that and transfer your CD collection to iTunes. For me this is the most cost effective and convenient option, rather than relying completely on buying or completely on streaming (if we are to discount illegal downloading, which I actually don't do anymore).

I've been using Spotify Premium for about a year and I absolutely love it. Are there things that are unavailable that I would like to listen to? Sure, but that just means I have to get them from some other platform, whether it be digital download or physical. The fear of streaming services disappearing and you being left with nothing strikes me as being a sort of Luddite view. You own all of your 8 tracks, but what are you going to play those on today?

www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi YOUR HOT NEW RELEASES: OK, you got us—“??????” isn't really the title of Taylor Swift's brand-new single, impacting Pop radio (along with a bevy of other noteworthy tracks) this week. But the superstar is planning a splashy announcement for later today, so who are we to steal her thunder?
