Ever thought you knew the lyrics to some songs and they turned out to be not what you thought they were? When i was little i thought in the Toby Keith song "God Love Her" that the one line went "her mama cried the first time they caught her with BEER" instead of "ME" haha another recent one was Jake Owen's "Beachin" i thought it was "white sand, COCAINE" instead of "COLD CAN" haha, theres more but ill add them later

This should be a fun thread. I know I've had a few, but I'll just put down the very first one that comes to mind to start with.
Dierks Bentley "Drunk on a Plane"
For the longest time I thought he was singing "Rocking like a Jesus" and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what that meant. It probably would have helped if I had ever heard the song "Like a G6" or knew what a G6 was.

Almost 10 years ago, I went with my then girlfriend to see Kenny Chesney. Gretchen Wilson opened for him and during "Redneck Woman" my girlfriend sang, "I've got posters on my wall of skinning kittens straight." Correct Lyrics: I've got posters on my wall of Skynard, Kid and Strait.
And one of my students who babysits told me one of the kids he watches thought Dierk's, "Drunk On A Plane" was, "Stewart is somethin' sexy, Leanin' pourin' Rice and Crispies."

It took me forever to figure out why Jason Aldean kept singing Joe Bippie Bippie Bippie (1994)

I've had more than a few doozies.
George Strait - Living and Living Well Actual: "Caught a fish, caught a breeze, and a thousand red sunsets." Heard: "Caught a fish, caught a breeze, and a thousand wrestling sets." (why I thought this, I'll never know)
Confederate Railroad - Trashy Women Actual: "Yeah an' I like 'em brassy, I like 'em brazen and bold." Heard: "Yeah an' I like 'em brassy, I like 'em raisin and bowl." (I listened to this a lot as a kid. I must have been unfamiliar with the word "brazen" at the time, because that's what it sounded like to me).
George Jones - It Just Don't Get Any Better Than This Actual: "If there's anything better, it's somethin' I missed." Heard: "If there's anything better, it's up in our midst."
Tanya Tucker - Tell Me About It (with Delbert McClinton) Actual: "I know what you're goin' through, I graduated from that school too." Heard: "I know what you're goin' through, I graduated from night school too."
Lorrie Morgan - Except for Monday Actual: "Tuesday I get a little sideways, Wednesday I feel better just for spite." Heard: "Tuesday I get a little sight, whereas Wednesday I feel better just for spite."
Garth Brooks - Papa Loved Mama Actual: "Papa drove a truck nearly all his life." Heard: "Papa drove a truck near the auto line."
Merle Haggard & George Jones - Yesterday's Wine Actual: "The last time I saw you was just out of Houston." Heard: "The last time I saw you was just how we used to."
Vince Gill - Feels Like Love Actual: "Feels like sunshine, feels like rain, Lord" Heard: "Feels like sunshine, feels like rainbow."

Garth Brooks- Papa Loved Mama When i was little i thought it was "papa loved mama and mama loved MAIL" instead of "mama loved men" I always had a hard time deciphering what he's singing about on almost all of his songs. I keep hearing "papa loved mama and mama loved MEOW..." Also, if it weren't for another song's title ("Working on a Full House"), I would've interpreted WOAFH as "two of a kind, and working on a go round". Garth Brooks may be talented, but I find him to be one of the worst enunciating singers to this date. And that's just my .02. ;)

I know I've had several instances of songs I misunderstood lyrics, but I cannot recall them right now. My sister, on the other hand, has an instance where she misunderstood a song's lyrics I will never forget. The song was The Band Perry's "Better Dig Two." I was riding in the car with my sister, and this song came on. She had never heard the song before. Well, when it got to the part, "I'm gonna tell the gravedigger that he better dig two", my sister's eyes got really big and she looked at me with shock and said, "Did she just say 'I'm gonna tell that d**n n****r he better dig two.' She didn't make that up to be funny either; she was serious (so no disrespect intended, but just the fact that that's what my sister thought Kimberly sang was pretty funny).

I never personally made this mistake, but I have seen people tweet Martina about this one a few times:
"Phones were ringin', tongues were waggin'. I've got syphilis flyin' all around town."
-Martina McBride, "Wearing White"
Haha it is even funnier because of who is singing it! Martina, with the flawless reputation she has...
ETA: The line is supposed to be "Hot gossip was flyin' all around town."

For the first thirty years of my life I sang along to Tanya Tuckers San Antonio Stroll and wondered why her sisters husbands name was "Tubee".
"And my sister Eileen and her husband TO BE. They held hands and began to stroll."
Opps.
I also thought Marshal Tuckers Band "Heard It In A Love Song" was actually titled "PURTY Little Love Song" until I was in my 20's. Screw it , I still sing the wrong line.

When I first got Kenny's The Road And The Radio album, I thought that the line in "You Save Me" was "All wild and crazy". It's actually "All wide eyed and crazy".

One of my girlfriends heard "little hotties swinging up in the swing" in Dierks' "Back Porch" as "little HEIDI'S swinging up in the swing." Now every time I listen to that song, that's what I hear.

Totally agree with the Garth/enunciation thing.

LOL at Martina with syphilis As a Brazilian, I naturally mishear A LOT of lyrics, but I can't remember much right now... There's an Emily West song (Let's Do This Thing), where she says "you like beer, well I like rum" and I thought it was "you like Rio, I like Rome", but that's all I can think of!

On "Beachin'", I could have swore Jake said "cocaine" in the chorus, but it's actually "cold can". It sounds so close though lol

I heard "Love Done Gone" by Billy Currington for the first time in ages yesterday and had this experience:
Actual: Like a red kite lost in the blue sky wind
What I heard: Like a red cat lost in the blue sky wind

When I was younger I always used to hear:
Stepped on a Pop Tart instead of Stepped on a pop-top
in Jimmy Buffett's "Margaritaville".

Don't ask me why the heck I thought he was saying pop pop, and that it was obviously pop-top, but I guess I must have been easily confused as a kid.

Gary Allan "Man to Man" Actual: "Man to man, who cheated who, you're the one to blame, tell me it ain't true, man to man"
Heard: "Man to man, hoochie to who, you're the one to blame, tell me it ain't true, man to man"
I always assumed Gary was saying he was the "who" and the "hoochie" was the other guy and being the "who" was better than "hoochie" lol.

I did this exact same one as a child.
Another one for me came from "If You're Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band)" by Alabama:
Actual: "A cowboy in the back stood up and yelled, 'Cotton-Eyed Joe'" Heard: "A cowboy in the back stood up and yelled, 'Hot nachos'"
And finally, I still can't fully make out "we've made some memories" in "Dust on the Bottle". It still sounds like "man rabies" or something to me. There's definitely a consonant somewhere in what David Lee Murphy mumbles that shouldn't be.

There's definitely a consonant somewhere in what David Lee Murphy mumbles that shouldn't be. I'm so glad that someone else couldn't make out what David Lee was saying during that bridge. I thought it sounded like "Man babies". But I knew there's no way that couldn't be it, so I finally looked up the lyrics when I was a teenager.

A recent one of mine:
Steve Earle - Satellite Radio Actual: "Is there anybody out there? One-two-three on the satellite radio?" Heard: "Is there anybody out there on TV on the satellite radio?"
Man, it's weird learning that you've gotten the lyrics wrong to a song you've been singing along to for years.
