The week that Paul Grien cites as the last all top 5 was pretty close to having a top ten with all females. 1-5 were women, Janelle Monae was featured on We Are Young at #6, and then positions 7-9 belonged to women. Only Chris Brown at #10 ruins it.

Chart Watch: Jason Aldean Is Still 'Burnin' It Down'

I have a feeling that Jason Aldean's sixth studio album, Old Boots, New Dirt, is going to be huge. The lead single, “Burnin’ It Down,” inches up from #21 to #20 in its seventh week on the Hot 100. It debuted and peaked at #12 six weeks ago. It’s #1 on Hot Country Songs for the seventh week. Another song from the album, “Sweet Little Somethin,’” is this week’s top new entry on the Hot 100 at #71. Old Boots, New Dirt, which is due Oct. 7, is vying to become Aldean’s second album in a row to enter The Billboard 200 at #1.

This week’s big Hot 100 news is that Meghan Trainor's “All About That Bass” unseated Taylor Swift's “Shake It Off” from the #1 spot. I covered that, and the rest of the top 10 action, in a blog that we posted earlier today. If you missed it, here's a link. This blog will look at key moves and debuts below the top 10.

Two songs with a message of self-respect similar to that in “All About That Bass” also do well this week. Maddie & Tae’s “Girl In A Country Song” jumps from #75 to #70 (a new high) in its fifth week. Colbie Caillat's “Try” re-enters the chart at #94. The song has already climbed as high as #55.

"Rather Be" by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne jumps from #15 to #12 in its 13th week. The song spent four weeks at #1 on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart in February … “Don’t Tell ‘Em” by Jeremih featuring YG jumps from #17 to #13 in its 11th week … Bobby Shmurda's “Hot Boy” jumps from #25 to #19 in its sixth week … Katy Perry's “This Is How We Do” jumps from #29 to #24 in its sixth week … “Lifestyle” by Rich Gang featuring Young Thug & Rich Homie Quan jumps from #38 to #31 in its eighth week … “No Mediocre” by T.I. featuring Iggy Azalea jumps from #40 to #33 in its 12th week.

Drake lands his 17th top 40 hit as a lead artist as “0 To 100/The Catch Up” jumps from #44 to #35 in its seventh week … Rae Sremmurd's “No Flex Zone” jumps from #49 to #36 in its sixth week.

"Fireball" by Pitbull featuring John Ryan jumps from #63 to #54 in is fifth week. I don’t want to date myself, but a producer named John Ryan produced Styx's first top 10 hit, “Lady,” which hit #6 in March 1975… Jason Derulo's “Trumpets” jumps from #66 to #58 in its 15th week. The song has climbed as high as #56 … Blake Shelton's “Neon Light” jumps from #77 to #62 in its third week … Mr. Probz's “Waves” jumps from #80 to #66 in its third week. The song spent two weeks at #1 in May on the U.K.'s Official Singles Chart.

"Walk Thru" by Rich Homie Quan featuring Problem jumps from #83 to #74 in its third week … Hozier's “Take Me To Church” jumps from #84 to #75 in its fourth week … Eli Young Band's “Dust” jumps from #87 to #79 in its seventh week … Maroon 5's “It Was Always You” jumps from #95 to #83 in its third week. The song has climbed as high as #45. The group's fifth album, V, enters The Billboard 200 at #1 this week.

"Seen It All" by Jeezy featuring Jay Z is the week’s second-highest new entry at #85. It’s from Jeezy’s fifth major-label studio album, Seen It All: The Autobiography, which enters The Billboard 200 at #2 this week.

Mary Lambert's “Secrets” is the week's third-highest new entry at #92. It's her first Hot 100 hit as a lead artist. Lambert was featured on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's “Same Love,” which reached #11 earlier this year. The new song is from her debut album, Heart On My Sleeve, which is due Oct. 14.

"Touchin, Lovin" by Trey Songz featuring Nicki Minaj debuts at #95. The song is from Songz’s recent #1 album, Trigga. The song title echoes that of Journey's 1979 hit “Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'.”

"Hold You Down" by DJ Khaled featuring Chris Brown, August Alsina, Future & Jeremih, debuts at #98. It’s from his upcoming eighth studio album, I Changed Alot …Big & Rich's “Look At You” debuts at #100. It's from the country duo's fifth studio album, Gravity, which is due Sept. 23.

These number of featuring entries, though, don't help much in terms of placement on the all-time-acts list, especially if they're middling or lesser performers.

I'm reviewing the Billboard charts, and I found some other cases of 7 in an all-female top 5:

Date, February 20, 1999

1. Monica "Angel of Mine"
2. Britney Spears "...Baby One More Time"
3. Cher "Believe"
4. Whitney Houston Featuring Faith Evans & Kelly Price "Heartbreak Hotel"
5. Deborah Cox "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here"

February 27 and March 6, 1999 also saw 7 there, with Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" coming in and Deborah Cox dropping out. 

Then, March 20, 1999

1. Cher "Believe"
2. Whitney Houston Featuring Faith Evans & Kelly Price "Heartbreak Hotel"
3. Monica "Angel of Mine"
4. Mariah Carey "I Still Believe"
5. Sarah McLachlan "Angel"

Also, February 6 and 13, 1999 had 5 female stars in the Top 5, with Brandy filling in for the Heartbreak Hotel trio. Hadn't it been for the Backstreet Boys who squeezed in at number 5 on the March 13 issue, we would have had 7 consecutive weeks of Top 5 female domination.

I'll keep researching, and if I find something else, I'll post it. :)

I found another case, but this has a group, bringing the singers in the Top 5 to 8, but technically it wouldn't count. Also, another of the songs, "I'm Real" had yet to feature Ja Rule, which did when it hit #1 three weeks later. But anyway, to remember another all-female Top 5:

2. Eve Featuring Gwen Stefani "Let Me Blow Ya Mind"
3. Blu Cantrell "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)
4. Jennifer Lopez "I'm Real"
