If SIO was on Spotify, Tay would probably still be on top Most likely, but I'm sure they are more than happy with doing what they can to protect sales. It would be interesting to see sales trends after a track that has been out then goes to Spotify. Is there a significant drop or does it reach an audiences that has opted to consume music differently and rarely buys? It didn't hurt Stay With Me

As a new artist with no track record, single sales were probably helped (or at least not hurt) with additional exposure. Taylor has a far bigger album base to protect - it's not just SIO that they care about. In fact, that's why 1989 pre-orders were available with SIO's release with the goal being to get singles buyers to maybe ante up for album from start.

Meghan Trainor Leads Hot 100's All-Female Top Five For Second WeekFor a second straight week, women shut out men in the top five, led by Trainor's debut hit 'All About That Bass.' It's all about women in the Billboard Hot 100's top five again, as Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" heads up an all-female top five for a second straight week. Trainor's debut hit leads for a second week after rising 2-1 last week. As we do each Wednesday (the day that the sales/airplay/streaming-based Hot 100 is compiled each week), let's run down the numbers behind the chart's top 10, including the shut out of men in the top five again. Below "Bass," Taylor Swift's former two-week No. 1 "Shake It Off" holds at No. 2 for a second week; Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda" stays at No. 3 for a third week after reaching No. 2; Iggy Azalea's "Black Widow," featuring Rita Ora, rises to a new high (5-4); and Minaj's "Bang Bang," with Jessie J and Ariana Grande, backtracks to No. 5 from its No. 4 peak. Thus, women control the top five exclusively for a second straight week. As noted in last week's "Ask Billboard" mailbag, such diva domination is rare: this week's chart (dated Sept. 27) marks just the eighth week in the Hot 100's 56-year history in which women have locked men out of the top five spots. Until last week, women had last taken full control of the region on March 3, 2012, thanks to hits by Katy Perry, Adele (two), Whitney Houston and Kelly Clarkson. Prior to March 2012, an all-female top five had last occurred on March 20, 1999, when songs by Cher, Houston (featuring Faith Evans and Kelly Price), Monica, Mariah Carey and Sarah McLachlan infused the tier. The current top five (and last week's), then, ties the record for the most women (seven, thanks to featured roles) appearing in the top five simultaneously. This week marks the first time since Feb. 27 and March 6, 1999, that women hold all top five ranks in back-to-back weeks. Trainor's debut single rules the Hot 100 with top Airplay Gainer honors for a fifth consecutive week, surging 6-3 on Radio Songs with a 19 percent bump to 122 million in all-format audience, according to Nielsen BDS. It spends a fourth week atop Digital Songs (312,000 sold, essentially even from last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan) and returns for a second week at No. 1 on Streaming Songs (2-1), up by 19 percent to 15.5 million U.S. streams, according to BDS. It logs a third week on top of the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart with a 24 percent lift to 4.1 million. As she leads the Hot 100 again, Trainor also debuts on the Billboard 200 with her debut four-song EP, Title. The set starts at No. 15 with 21,000 sold. Meanwhile, the release's "Dear Future Husband" debuts on the Hot 100 at No. 94. (How did Trainor find out she'd hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 last week? "Landed in Australia and got the link from my mom and started balling. Pilot thought I was crazy lol," she tweeted. "Thank you to all the fans, my family, and my team for helping my first single get to Number 1!," she later wrote. "I still don't believe it! Can't stop tearing up, I'm so happy! What an incredible year this has been. Thank you thank you thank you.") While "Bass" holds at No. 1 on the Hot 100, Swift makes a push to reclaim the throne: "Bass" gains by 11 percent in overall chart points, while "Shake" soars by 22 percent. "Shake" claims top Digital and Streaming Gainer kudos, holding at No. 2 on Digital Songs, up by 10 percent to 309,000 sold, and powering 6-3 on Streaming Songs (11.1 million, up 58 percent). Why its big gain in streaming (when the song's official video premiered on Aug. 18, the day that it was released)? Swift posted four clips on her Vevo channel (on YouTube) in the past four days featuring outtakes from the video; as they include the song's audio, their clicks count toward the track's total streaming in the chart's tracking week. On Radio Songs, "Shake" shimmies 7-4, up by 11 percent to 113 million. At No. 3 on the Hot 100, Minaj's "Anaconda" drops 1-2 after three weeks atop Streaming Songs, although up by 5 percent to 13.7 million. It retreats 5-6 on Digital Songs (126,000, down 3 percent) and climbs 36-31 on Radio Songs (38 million, up 10 percent). "Anaconda" notches a fourth week at No. 1 on both Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs. Making the Nos. 3 and 4 spots on the Hot 100 an especially perilous area, "Black Widow" moves next to "Anaconda," rising 5-4. "Widow" slinks 10-9 on Radio Songs (89 million, up 13 percent); dips 4-5 on Streaming Songs, but with a 2 percent increase to 7.6 million; and slips 4-5 on Digital Songs (127,000, down 11 percent). Jessie J, Grande and Minaj's "Bang Bang" (4-5 on the Hot 100) gains in airplay, roaring by 22 percent to 70 million, and charges 16-13 on Radio Songs. It keeps at No. 3 on Digital Songs (147,000, down 14 percent) and drops 3-4 on Streaming Songs (7.5 million, down 6 percent). Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Sam Smith's No. 2-peaking "Stay With Me" holds at No. 6 and tallies a sixth week at No. 1 on Radio Songs (132 million, down 9 percent); Grande's "Break Free," featuring Zedd, rebounds 8-7 (after rising to No. 4) and leads Hot Dance/Electronic Songs for a fifth week; Maroon 5's No. 6-peaking "Maps" travels 9-8; MAGIC!'s former six-week No. 1 "Rude" falls 7-9; and Charli XCX's "Boom Clap" returns to the region and its peak rank (11-10). www.billboard.com/articles/news/6251722/hot-100-meghan-trainor-no-1-females-top-five

Not bad. I'm glad "Boom Clap" re-entered. Hopefully "Rude" and "Maps" fall faster so that new songs can enter.

If that's the case to get a Streaming boost, than Nicki should release BTS footage of Anaconda to VEVO. That should get her to #1

Chart Watch: Women Party Like It's 1999Female artists lock up the top five spots on the Hot 100 for the second straight week. It’s the first time that not one man has appeared in the top five for two weeks running since Feb. 27 and March 6, 1999. Meghan Trainor's “All About That Bass holds at #1 for the second week. Taylor Swift's “Shake It Off” holds at #2, Nicki Minaj's “Anaconda” holds at #3, “Black Widow' by Iggy Azalea featuring Rita Ora jumps from #5 to #4 and “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj dips from #4 to #5. In case you’re wondering, the top five songs on those two weeks in 1999 were Monica's “Angel Of Mine,” Cher's “Believe,” Whitney Houston's “Heartbreak Hotel” (featuring Faith Evans & Kelly Price), Sarah McLachlan's “Angel” and newcomer Britney Spears's “…Baby One More Time.” In addition to topping the Hot 100 for the second week, Trainor’s song is #1 on Hot Digital Songs for the fourth time in the past five weeks. "All About That Bass" is all about women accepting their bodies, even if they don’t conform to society’s ideal. It helps to make up for decades of male chauvinist songs that treated women’s weight issues as a subject for derisive humor. Among the most egregious examples: Joe Tex's “Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman)” and Arthur Godfrey's “Too Fat Polka (I Don't Want Her) (You Can Have Her) (She's Too Fat For Me).” I wrote a separate blog on that theme which we posted earlier today. If you missed it, here's a link. With “Black Widow” and “Anaconda” both listed in the top five, the great minds at Hits Magazine came up with this fun item: When was the last time a spider and a snake both appeared in the top five? If you answered March 1974, when Jim Stafford scored with “Spiders And Snakes,” you are correct. "Anaconda" is also #1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for the fourth straight week. Sam Smith's “Stay With Me” holds at #6 on the Hot 100 for the second week. It's the top-ranking song by a male artist for the third week. It's #1 on Radio Songs for the sixth straight week. "Break Free" by Ariana Grande featuring Zedd rebounds from #8 to #7. It has climbed as high as #4. It’s #1 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs for the fifth week. “Break Free” this week becomes Grande’s third million-seller of 2014. It follows “Problem” (featuring Iggy Azalea, 3,062,000) and the aforementioned “Bang Bang” (1,222,000).Maroon 5's “Maps” rebounds from #9 to #8. The song peaked at #6. MAGIC!'s “Rude” drops from #7 to #9. The song logged six weeks at #1 and was declared the #2 Song of the Summer. Charli XCX's “Boom Clap” jumps from #11 to #10. This is the third time this song has broken into the top 10. It replaces Sia's “Chandelier,” which drops out of the top 10 this week. "Rather Be" by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. The song was #12 and still climbing last week’s Hot 100. The song spent four weeks at #1 on The Official U.K. Singles Chart in February. Only one other song has spent four weeks at #1 in the U.K. so far this year—Pharrell Williams's “Happy.” Tove Lo's “Habits (Stay High)” tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. The song was #18 and still climbing on last week's Hot 100. "Blame" by Calvin Harris featuring John Newman enters The Official U.K. Singles Chart at #1. It’s Harris’s fifth #1 in the U.K. as a lead artist in the past 5-1/2 years, following “I’m Not Alone,” “Sweet Nothing,” “Under Control” and “Summer.” Harris has also scored two #1 hits as a featured artist: Dizzee Rascal's “Dance Wiv Me” (2008) and Rihanna's “We Found Love” (2011). music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-women-party-like-its-1999-222238897.html

Especially when I start the 1st one and she's talking over a lot of it and you can barely hear the audio. They had been uploading one a week to her TaylorSwift account for the past few weeks, and moved them to her Vevo account this week with views reset. It's not like the videos even have high view counts, and the Daddy-Daughter/Frat Boy lip dub viral videos probably contributed more to her streaming than the BTS videos did. Why is it bullshit though? It's not like she was so close to #3 that she would have fallen a spot. I don't see the problem.

Chart Watch: Fall Out Boy Falls InFall Out Boy's “Centuries” is the top new entry on the Hot 100 at #22. It's from the group's upcoming sixth studio album, which is expected early next year. The group has amassed six top 20 hits, including “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up),” which reached #13 last year. The group's highest-charting hit to date is “This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race,” which reached #2 in February 2007. This week’s top Hot 100 news is Meghan Trainor's “All About That Bass” holding at #1 for the second week. It helps to counter male chauvinist songs from the past that treated women's weight issues as fodder for humor. I wrote a blog on just that subject which we posted earlier today. If you missed it, here's a link. And here’s a link to a second blog that dealt with the fact that women lock up the entire top five for the second straight week. It’s the first time that’s happened for two weeks running since 1999. This blog will deal with key debuts and moves below the top 10. "Don’t Tell ‘Em" by Jeremih featuring YG moves up from #13 to #12 in its 12th week, changing places with “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne, which dips from #12 to #13 in its 14th week … Tove Lo's “Habits (Stay High) jumps from #18 to #16 in its 16th week. Both “Rather Be” and “Habits (Stay High)” top the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. Jason Aldean's “Burnin' It Down” holds at #20 in its eighth week on the chart. It debuted and peaked at #12 seven weeks ago. It's #1 on Hot Country Songs for the eighth week. It's from Aldean's sixth studio album Old Boots, New Dirt, which is due Oct. 7. “Two Night Town,” another song from the album, enters the Hot 100 this week at #76.Ed Sheeran's “Don't” jumps from #30 to #25 in its 14th week … Katy Perry's “This Is How We Do” drops from #24 to #27 in its seventh week. But it still has a bullet, which suggests that it may reverse course. It's at risk of becoming her first single (from one of her own albums) to miss the top 20 since “Thinking Of You” stalled at #29 in February 2009. I like Perry, so I'm rooting for her. Stay tuned. "Blame" by Calvin Harris featuring John Newman is the week’s second-highest new entry at #31. The song enters The Official U.K. Singles Chart at #1 this week. There has been a lot of “blame” to go around on the Hot 100. Milli Vanilli took “Blame It On The Rain” to #1 in 1989. “Blame It” (on the alcohol) by Jamie Foxx featuring T-Pain hit #2 in 2009. Eydie Gorme's “Blame It On The Bossa Nova” hit #7 in 1963. "New Flame" by Chris Brown featuring Usher & Rick Ross jumps from #39 to #36 in its ninth week. The song is from Brown’s album X, which is expected to enter The Billboard 200 at #2 next week, behind Barbra Streisand's Partners … “Fireball” by Pitbull featuring John Ryan jumps from #54 to #46 in its sixth week … Jason Derulo's “Trumpets” jumps from #58 to #48 in its 16th week … Mr. Probz's “Waves” jumps from #66 to #58 in its fourth week. The song spent two weeks at #1 on The Official U.K. Singles Chart in May. "Touchin, Lovin" by Trey Songz featuring Nicki Minaj jumps from #95 to #77 in its second week. Nick Jonas's “Jealous” debuts at #78. It's from Nick Jonas, the former teen heartthrob’s first solo album since the breakup of Jonas Brothers. This is Jonas’s third Hot 100 single apart from his brothers. “Who I Am” (credited to Nick Jonas & The Administration) reached #73 in 2009. “Introducing Me” stalled at #92 in 2010. (JoBros fatigue had set in at that time and there was resistance to anything by the brothers. By now, that resistance has faded. And “Jealous” is a very solid, contemporary-sounding record.) Mary Lambert’s "Secrets" jumps from #92 to #81 in its second week …"Hold You Down" by DJ Khaled featuring Chris Brown, August Alsina, Future & Jeremih jumps from #98 to #83 in its second week.Train's “Angel In Blue Jeans” debuts at #91. It's from the group's seventh studio album, Bulletproof Picasso, which is expected to enter The Billboard 200 right around #5 next week … “Bend Ova” by Lil Jon featuring Tyga debuts at #92. It’s Lil Jon’s follow-up to the top five smash “Turn Down For What,” a collabo with DJ Snake, which is up to 3,243,000 in digital sales … Sam Smith's “I'm Not The Only One” re-enters the chart at #93. The song has climbed as high as #69 … Meghan Trainor's “Dear Future Husband” debuts at #94. It's from her EP Title, which enters The Billboard 200 at #15 this week.

Love them, hate them, or view them with complete indifference but I'm still finding it tough to swallow that "Bailando," "Rather Be," and "Don't Tell 'Em" are having so much trouble breaking into the top 10 for even one frame. Perception would place them among the very biggest songs in recent weeks.

Perception would place them among the very biggest songs in recent weeks. Don't Tell 'Em and Bailando 's airplay is stronger than their sales, though I think DTE has a chance of gaining soon; Bailando seems like it is just too far back to ever play catchup. Clean Bandit should have cracked that top ten by now, however. The weight on streaming is off-kilter, IMO; Billboard chose to take points away from sales instead of radio to insert it into the formula; and though there aren't many times where it makes a discernible difference, the inconsistency and arbitrariness as to what does or doesn't count as streaming is annoying.

(I have heard Rather Be, which I bought awhile ago, though.) Am I just clueless? How are you measuring perception?

LOL 6xP for Happy, isn't that a bit old news (if streaming is included) Will TIHWD ever reach higher than #24? It's her "Marry the Night"... No. Pharrell's label just hasn't bothered to certify it. Happy was last certified in April. It probably passed 6xP in May/June. Labels sometimes are cheap and lazy. Pharrell's label has totally dropped the ball on his album. Two singles and it seems promotion has ended.

If that's the case to get a Streaming boost, than Nicki should release BTS footage of Anaconda to VEVO. That should get her to #1 She actually did before the video, I believe. I wonder if those numbers counted.
