Not surprising Meghan's song has sold more overall, has it not been available longer?

Not surprising Meghan's song has sold more overall, has it not been available longer? Yes but it sold almost twice as much in its first week as AATB did in its highest-selling week and up until 3 or 4 weeks before SIO debuted AATB's sales were negligible I think. So I guess AATB just barely made up that difference.

Well it feels to me like the huge lead that SIO had over AATB the week that SIO debuted could make up for the few hundred thousand sales that AATB got in the few weeks before SIO debuted. And of course after that first week for SIO the two songs were about even in sales.

I'm guessing some of the other songs (based on what the article mentioned) that made top ten on the Hot 100 without making the Mainstream Top 40 chart were Gentleman and The Fox? Interesting, five such songs in just two years (including the ones mentioned in the article)...oh and why were they considered "non-rap" I mean if Gentleman was on the Rap Songs chart then obviously Billboard does consider it to be rap so by default they should include it. Soko "We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow" is one of them I bet.

I guess it goes to show how insignificant that song really was considering that I had remembered other, hmm, "instant grat" songs, so to speak that were out long before WMBDBT but not WMBDBT. Still think that was the most undeserved top ten of the year, if not of the decade or even century (though I don't know too many top 10s before 2005 or 2006). I mean I could understand if it was for the official video but I think majority people that watched that first kiss video weren't/barely were even aware the song was playing.

I re-read the article because I thought the same thing. The article says first "rap" song since "Rap God" to hit the top 10 without hitting the pop chart.

"Shake It Off" has a great chance to be number #1 the next few weeks. Lead Singles always sell a lot during release week. Look at "Maps" by M5 back a few months ago. "Break Free" out of the top 10,Not surprised at all,The single has been out since july and the song is finished on radio.

The three non-rap songs Billboard is talking about are Let It Go, We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow, and Dope.

CS is now out of Hot 100. Imagine how long it'll rule in the recurrents.

"This Is How We Do" fell below "Dark Horse" (which rose 46-43 ) 56 weeks is waaaaay too long for that song IMO. I think 40 was enough, after passing HnC and Firework for the longest run for a Katy Perry song. It honestly hasn't even felt relevant at all in the last couple months. Is it still top 50 on Spotify? I want AOM to be the longest chart sitter (and hopefully it can get almost as many weeks as CS, it is a song with good longevity too)

I still feel like I hear it on the radio quite a bit, and it's still fairly common background music at bars/restaurants.

I've hear Unconditionally once on a Hot AC station and Roar still gets regular spins, but Dark Horse gets played like it's the only Katy Perry song in existence right now. Both on Pop Stations with Juicy J and on Hot AC without Juicy J.

It's "real" chart run didn't begin until December(?), so those total weeks are a bit misleading.

I guess they play it a lot more in the US than they do here then lol. Over here I haven't heard it in months (and I listen to radio/go out to restaurants and stuff quite a bit). I don't get why so many people haven't gotten over it yet. Honestly I hear Counting Stars a lot more than I hear Dark Horse right now so CS definitely feels bigger to me. Well DH will likely be out of the Hot 100 within 2-3 weeks unless some other viral video for it will be out. It's barely top 40 on streaming, below top 40 in airplay and not even in top 100 in sales I think. Don't really get how it has enough points to still be in the top 50.

Birthday and TIHWD both made top 10 in Canada, so they clearly did better there than here, which likely pushed DH down more on radio than it has been here. I'd rather have DH have a little better longevity than those 2 songs top 10.

Centuries (#42 Hot 100) n/a Radio #17 Sales n/a Streaming
Dark Horse (#43 Hot 100) #42 Radio #36 Sales #37 Streaming
Neon Light (#44 Hot 100) #25 Radio #29 Sales n/a Streaming
Radio presence isn't everything, because otherwise Neon Light would be over it. Looks like sales are most important and a well-rounded placing on all 3 components keeps it going strong. It is fading on sales now that This is How We Do is going away, however, so it should be gone as well in about 2 weeks time, not to mention the lack of bullet this week.

Hopefully "Habits" or "Don't Tell 'Em" can end the Taylor/Meghan domination at the top. Especially "Habits".

And so it began, the reign of Smooth If "Heartbreaker" hadn't been a limited single, it may have had another week or two at #1. The week "Smooth" took over #1, it was mentioned that it was a very tight race.
