Sonically, it's great. Lyrically, not so much.

I mean, it sounds ok and it's way better than "Out Of The Woods" but that's not saying much. These promo singles have not really been impressing me.
I can see this growing on me, though.

When I heard we were getting a pop album from her, I was stoked. I haven't loved anything from this project, but this has a decent melody. The lyrics are crap though-- which is consistent with 'Shake It Off' and 'Out of the Woods'. I'm usually a fan of her writing first and foremost, and the pop material from Red (bar '22') was amazing. Really disappointed that 1989 isn't holding up.

Not feeling this one, but I generally don't like most songs about cities or specific places. I like the keyboards, but the drum production is annoying and sounds like it belongs in 2005.
It's a real shame that a track like this actually made the cut, it's probably weaker than any of the songs on her last 2 records.

I kind of like it! But it's definitely one of Taylor's weakest songs, and no where near "Out of the Woods" or "Shake It Off"

Actually, the drum beat kinda reminds me of this as well. I knew there was an older song I was trying to think of.

How is this 27 on iTunes as a pre-order when it's not available as a pre-order yet, only an album track?

Definitely the weakest song so far, but not too bad. It's nowhere near as good as "Out of the Woods" or catchy as "Shake it Off."
I think it's neat how on Speak Now she sang how "one day [she'll] be living in a big ole city" and the first song on this album is called "Welcome to New York." Just a kinda cool thing.

"Shake It Off" was alright, and "Out of the Woods" was not too shabby. This one is not good though. It's annoying af.

I seem to be in the minority that likes this. If expecting another "Shake It Off",then yeah you would be disappointed. But this is good stuff. It will be something that will stay more of a album track than a radio single. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

I fucking love this idgaf.
It might be because I can relate wholeheartedly but in a "moved-to-Toronto" instead of NYC way.
"Everyone here was someone else before, and you can want who you want, boys and boys and girls and girls" especially gets me.

This sounds like it was designed to be used in a NYC tourism commercial.

I heard this on the radio this morning on the way to work. The weakest of the three offerings from the album thus far, but it is not bad.

Okay the sound of the single alone has this song stuck in my head, even though it is one of Taylor's weakest, it's still pretty good!!! I really like this now!!! <3

From the Official Charts: I didn't see that coming! Maybe, it's a UK-only release, I guess. Anyway, "Out of the Woods" >>> "Welcome to New York" tbh.
From BuzzJack Music Forum: 21-3021 The Independents - UKIP Calypso * 27 Alex Clare - War Rages On * 28 Taylor Swift - Welcome To New York * 29 Hudson Taylor - Chasing Rubies * This is the midweek update in the UK and "Welcome to New York" enters at #28 there. However, it's strange to see it there because the UK only allows one instant track from an album and, as far as I know, "Shake It Off" was the chosen one.

Wait... wut?
This is the weakest song I've heard from the album yet... (Still good, but... there are better options)

At least 44 spins on pop, with 35 of them being from Sirius XM.

So, it was eligible after all. Debuts at #39 in the UK, becoming her 14th overall Top 40 entry there. Apparently, this is an indicative that there was a rule change in the OCC's chart eligibility rules because of the iTunes changes in sales reporting.

I think it's better than most are saying, but it's still one of the weaker tracks on the album.
