Madonna had 7 #1s from the American Life album, although there were only 4 singles officially released.

I didn't even know Madonna even released that many singles in the first place lol, let alone that each and every one of them went #1 (I mean each of 43, I do realize that she presumably had at least a couple more that didn't reach #1 on the chart) Wow 171 #1's for just 8 acts...but then again each song gets 1 maybe 2 weeks at #1 Back in the day - the Dance chart used to do something called "All Cuts" - meaning an album like Donna Summer's "Bad Girls," which has several individual songs that could have gone to #1, didn't because the entire album was the sole representation. (So no separate potential #1s for Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, Dim All the Lights, Sunset People, etc.) That also happened to "Lucky Star/Holiday" - it's counted as single entry.

The dance charts!! Or more like the diva & gay charts! Katy Perry reaching #1 with a flop and see JHud and Aretha debuting, and am sure they'll reach higher! Good to see Mary Lambert too. Will check the remixes :) Now, there's some type of diva connection with this big Latin week??! What's the record for weeks on top of the Latin airplay chart? 24 weeks for Enrique is HUGE! Is the record held by diva Shakira? ;) Interesting two great comebacks in the Tropical Chart! The #1 song is a good comeback for Luis Enrique. He was a heavy salsa artist in the 1980s with hits like Desesperado and Date un Chance. And this comeback song is a cover of a mega hit from 1985 by the ultimate sexy Latin diva telenovela and movie artist-turned singer at that time: María Conchita Alonso (who also acted in some US movies). An even greater surprise is to see Ismael Miranda back on the charts. Wow! This is a salsa legend with more than 40 years of career, with a lot of salsa classics. Will definitely check that out!

Madonna had 7 #1s from the American Life album, although there were only 4 singles officially released. It was actually 7 top tens, 5 of which hit #1, and that's if you include Die Another Day which was originally on the James Bond album. (Nobody Knows Me hit #4 and Mother & Father hit #9.) Still, I don't mean to diminish the feat! She was the first to land 7 top tens from one album. (Did Katy Perry manage this as well with Teenage Dream? I don't know if all the singles were serviced to clubs.)

Wasn't there an article posted here earlier in the year which showed the Dance/Club songs chart is pretty meaningless (well, not completely meaningless, since they can lead songs to get extra airplay, etc, but the way the chart is compiled is pretty ridiculous)?

It's compiled from self-reporting from specific DJs that billboard has on their panel.

It'd be nice if Rather Be sneaked in a week in the top 10 if it can holder longer than Am I Wrong.
Looks like in a little under a week from now we will have a race between Tove Lo and Maroon 5 for who can hit #1 first.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6304557/taylor-swift-collects-fourth-no-1-album-now-52-debuts-at-no-2Over on the Digital Songs chart, Taylor Swift debuts at No. 1 with "Blank Space" (155,000 downloads), notching her ninth leader on the tally. It's her third No. 1 from the 1989 album, following "Shake It Off" and "Out of the Woods." Swift also places another entry in the top 10, as the album's "Style" starts at No. 8 with 74,000. Back up at No. 2, Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" slips 1-2 with 133,000 (down 8 percent) and Maroon 5's "Animals" holds at No. 3 with 110,000 (down 6 percent). Hozier's "Take Me To Church" falls 2-4 with 105,000 (down 20 percent) and Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)" descends 4-5 with 79,000 (down 11 percent). Nicki Minaj's "Only," featuring Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown, debuts at No. 6 with 76,000. Imagine Dragons' new single "I Bet My Life" enters at No. 7 with 74,000. Rounding out the top 10 are Jason Derulo's "Trumpets" (down two rungs with 72,000; down 11 percent) and "Bang Bang" by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Minaj (down four places to No. 10 with 71,000; down 13 percent). Digital track sales this past week totaled 17.29 million downloads, up less than 1 percent compared with last week (17.22 million) and down 15 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (20.41 million). Year to date track sales are at 935.37 million, down 13 percent compared to the same total at this point last year (1.07 billion).

Taylor Swift's 'Shake It Off' Returns to No. 1 on Hot 100 Plus, four more songs debut from her new No. 1 Billboard 200 album '1989,' including 'Blank Space,' which enters atop Digital Songs.
Taylor Swift-mania extends to the Billboard Hot 100, where "Shake It Off" rebounds 2-1 for a third total week on top. The song debuted at No. 1 on Sept. 6 and led again in its second week before spending the next eight weeks at No. 2, until this week. "Shake," released on Big Machine Records, dethrones the song that kept it at the runner-up slot in between its No. 1 ranks: Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass," which dips to No. 2 after eight weeks at the summit.
With Swift already making headline news thanks to the debut of parent album 1989 atop the Billboard 200 with 1.287 million copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and with Wednesday the day that the sales/airplay/streaming-based Hot 100 is compiled, let's take our weekly look at the numbers behind the top 10 and more.
With its third week at No. 1 on the Hot 100, "Shake" equals her longest reign. Her sole prior leader, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," led for three (also nonconsecutive) weeks in 2012. While eight weeks in between No. 1 is lengthy, it falls just shy of the record for the longest wait a song has endured before returning to the top of the Hot 100. Last year, Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" spent two weeks at No. 1 following the arrival of its official (now-legendary) video. After ranking between Nos. 2 and 3 the next nine weeks, it returned for a third and final frame at No. 1 after a parody clip (with the song's original audio) by YouTuber Stephen Kardynal went viral.
"Shake" reclaims the Hot 100's summit with a 1 percent gain in overall points, while "Bass" drops by 9 percent. "Shake" leads Radio Songs for a fourth week (136 million in audience, down 5 percent, according to Nielsen BDS); holds at its No. 2 peak on Streaming Songs (10.8 million U.S. streams, down 3 percent); and leads the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart for a sixth week (3.5 million, down 5 percent). ("Shake" falls off Digital Songs, which it topped for four weeks, from No. 15. Its slide is owed to iTunes customers who bought "Shake" and completed their purchases of 1989. Essentially, consumers who completed the album were returning "Shake," translating to its sales chart slip. For the purposes of the Hot 100, however, aggregate sales contribute to the song's overall point total.)
More Swift news: second 1989 single "Blank Space" enters the Hot 100 at No. 18. Largely fueling its arrival, it debuts at No. 1 on Digital Songs with 155,000 downloads sold. Swift scores her ninth Digital Songs No. 1, tying her with Eminem for the third-most leaders all-time. Rihanna leads with 13, followed by Katy Perry (10). With all nine of Swift's Digital Songs No. 1s having debuted at the pinnacle, she also passes Rihanna (8) for the most No. 1 debuts in the chart's history. (As with "Shake," the 155,000 sold for "Space" is impacted by upgrades to completed copies of 1989 on iTunes. Again, aggregate sales factor into the song's Hot 100 rank.) Radio also contributes to the launch of "Space," as it debuts on Pop Songs at No. 29 and Adult Pop Songs at No. 36. It's likely to enter the Radio Songs chart next week, as it just misses this week's list with a 302 percent increase to 25 million in audience.
Even more Swift news: In addition to "Space" at No. 18, three other 1989 tracks enter the Hot 100. "Style" debuts at No. 60, followed by "Wildest Dreams" (No. 76) and "Bad Blood" (No. 80). With her four debuts, Swift ups her count to 66 career Hot 100 hits. (1989's "Out of the Woods" and "Welcome to New York" previously debuted, peaking at Nos. 18 and 48, respectively; "New York" drops to No. 69 in its second week.) Swift, thus, moves closer to Aretha Franklin's record for the most Hot 100 visits by a woman: 73. Madonna and Dionne Warwick share third-place with 56 each, with Nicki Minaj rounding out the top five among women with 55; Minaj adds to her total this week as "Only" (featuring Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown) debuts at No. 54. Meghan Trainor falls to No. 2 on the Hot 100 with "Bass," which last week broke the mark for the longest-leading No. 1 (eight weeks) single in Epic Records history. Still, the song rules the Streaming Songs chart for a ninth week (11.9 million, down 10 percent). It drops 1-2 after seven week atop Digital Songs (133,000, down 8 percent) and keeps at No. 2 on Radio Songs (128 million, down 7 percent), which it led for three weeks. Trainor also surges with "Bass" follow-up "Lips Are Movin," which jumps 93-70 in its second week on the Hot 100. Earlier this week, she announced dates for her first headlining tour. She'll also sing "Bass" with Miranda Lambert on tonight's (Nov. 5) CMA Awards (on ABC). Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)" holds at its No. 3 highpoint on the Hot 100. Airplay is its greatest points contributor, as the track pushes 5-3 on Radio Songs (123 million, up 14 percent). As previously reported, "Habits" bounds 5-1 on this week's Pop Songs airplay chart. With the greatest overall points gain in the Hot 100's top 10, Maroon 5's "Animals" rises 5-4 with top Airplay Gainer honors for a fourth consecutive week; it vaults 9-5 on Radio Songs (106 million, up 32 percent). "Animals" is the first song by a group to link four straight weeks as the top Airplay Gainer since Maroon 5's own "One More Night" nabbed five in-a-row in 2012. "Animals" holds at No. 3 on Digital Songs (110,000, down 6 percent) and returns to the Streaming Songs top 10 (11-10; 5.2 million, up 3 percent). Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj's No. 3-peaking "Bang Bang" drops 4-5 on the Hot 100. Notably, Grande has now spent exactly half a year, 26 weeks, in the top five, thanks to "Bang" and prior hits "Problem" (featuring Iggy Azalea) and "Break Free" (featuring Zedd). She could be well-positioned to continue her streak: new single "Love Me Harder," with The Weeknd, jumps 37-24. (Katy Perry holds the record with a monstrous 69 consecutive top 10 weeks in 2010-11). Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Azalea's No. 3-peaking "Black Widow" (featuring Rita Ora) is steady at No. 6, while leading Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Rap Songs for a fifth week each; Jeremih's "Don't Tell 'Em" (featuring YG) holds at No. 7 after reaching No. 6; Bobby Shmurda's "Hot Boy" remains at its No. 8 peak to date; Ed Sheeran's "Don't" returns to the top 10 at a new high (11-9); and Hozier's "Take Me to Church" retreats 9-10 after entering the region last week.

The first break in straight #1s since Wrecking Ball...and before that Harlem Shake.

The first break in straight #1s since Wrecking Ball...and before that Harlem Shake. I believe the longest gap between songs returning to the top spot was between Men At Work's "Down Under" in early 1983 and Ace Of Base's "The Sign" in the spring of '94. Over 11 years where no dethroned song made it back to the top!

I have a feeling "All About That Bass" will snag #1 again next week, since the album effect should hit Taylor along with the on-demand pull killing "Shake it Off"'s streaming numbers.

Once again, why does Billboard tell us that the aggregate sales # is what counts towards the Hot 100 but then not tell us how well Shake it Off actually sold?
