Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj's No. 3-peaking "Bang Bang" drops 4-5 on the Hot 100. Notably, Grande has now spent exactly half a year, 26 weeks, in the top five, thanks to "Bang" and prior hits "Problem" (featuring Iggy Azalea) and "Break Free" (featuring Zedd). She could be well-positioned to continue her streak: new single "Love Me Harder," with The Weeknd, jumps 37-24. (Katy Perry holds the record with a monstrous 69 consecutive top 10 weeks in 2010-11). OK, BB, but who has the longest streak in the top 5 because I just checked and it isn't Katy! And since I'm avoiding working on a paper, I looked up some of my best guesses as to who has that record: 32 weeks - LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem moved in to the top 5 on 6/25/11 - stayed there until 10/22/11, which is the week Sexy and I Know It moved into the top 5. SAIKI lasted until 1/28/12. 30 weeks - Timbaland - I didn't write down the dates, but The Way I Are debuted in the summer of 2007 and lasted just long enough for Apologize to enter the top 5. I -think- they weren't ever in the top 5 at the same time. 30 weeks - Boyz II Men - At the time, they were only the third act to replace themselves at #1 following Elvis and the Beatles. I'll Make Love to You debuted in the top 5 on 8/20/94 and lasted through to December. Its last few weeks in the top five were shared with On Bended Knee, which debuted on 11/26/94. OBK left 3/4/95. 27 weeks - Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow jumped from outside the top 10 to #1 - spent 12 weeks at #1, before being booted out by "I Gotta Feeling" which spent 14 weeks at #1. IGF had one more week in the top five once it was no longer #1. Honorable mention to Ace of Base - On 10/17/93, "All That She Wants" moved into the top 5, and stayed there for 14 weeks it fell to #7 on 1/29/94. The very next week, "The Sign" moved into the top 5. And then as that moved out of the top five, Don't Turn Around moved in, making for 25 consecutive weeks. If ATSW had managed to hold on in the top 5 at 1/29/94, it would have been 40 weeks. I wonder if there's anyone else I'm missing. Wow, I wonder who is going to read all this.

I wonder if Trainor will rebound next week? That would nicely confirm my prediction of an I'm Real-Fallin' style back-and-forth. :)

Once again, why does Billboard tell us that the aggregate sales # is what counts towards the Hot 100 but then not tell us how well Shake it Off actually sold? My guess is that would give away too much iTunes info. That's the only place you can pre-order, correct? So if you subtract songs for pre-orders and CMA (which I guess Amazon now does, finally) you get a lot of idea about sales just from iTunes, which they are kind of stingy about.

Chart Watch: 'Shake It Off' Back On Top By Paul Grein 1 hour ago Chart Watch
Taylor Swift's “Shake It Off” returns to #1 on the Hot 100, ending an eight-week interruption by Meghan Trainor's “All About That Bass.” Only one other song has returned to #1 after such a lengthy absence. Miley Cyrus's “Wrecking Ball” returned to #1 last year following a nine-week interruption by Lorde's “Royals.”
"Wrecking Ball" retook the #1 spot due to the popularity of a video by You Tube favorite Stephen Kardynal, who spoofed Cyrus’s infamous video. “Shake It Off” retakes the top spot this week due in part to the blockbuster success of Swift’s new album 1989, which sold 1,287,000 copies in its first week.
"Shake It Off" has now had three weeks on top, which matches the weeks-at-#1 of Swift’s only previous #1 hit, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." That song’s run at #1 was also interrupted—by Flo Rida's “Whistle.”
"Shake It Off" is #1 on the all-genre Radio Songs chart for the fourth week.
Four other Swift songs enter the Hot 100 this week. “Blank Space” debuts at #18, “Style” at #60, “Wildest Dreams” at #76 and “Bad Blood” at #80. This ups Swift’s total of Hot 100 hits to 66—which puts her just seven hits behind Aretha Franklin as the female artist with the most Hot 100 hits in history. (Not to put a damper on this, but it’s much easier to hit the Hot 100 now than it used to be. When you can have numerous songs charting in a single week, it tends to swell your total quickly.)
And there’s a sixth Swift song on this week’s chart. “Welcome To New York” drops from #48 to #69 in its second week.
"Blank Space" debuts at #1 on Hot Digital Songs (155K). It’s Swift’s ninth #1 on that chart. Only three other artists have amassed nine or more #1s on the digital sales chart. Rihanna leads with 13, followed by Katy Perry (10) and Eminem (also nine).
Meghan Trainor's “All About That Bass” dips from #1 to #2 in its 17th week. Trainor is set to perform the song on tonight's Country Music Assn. Awards in a collabo with Miranda Lambert. Trainor’s follow-up, “Lips Are Movin,” jumps from #93 to #70 in its second week.
Tove Lo's “Habits (Stay High)” holds at #3 for the second week in its 23rd week … Maroon 5's “Animals” jumps from #5 to #4 in its 11th week … “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj dips from #4 to #5 in its 14th week. The song peaked at #3. (Grande has had a song in the top 10 for 26 consecutive weeks.)
"Black Widow" by Iggy Azalea featuring Rita Ora holds at #6 for the second week in its 18th week. The song peaked at #3. It’s #1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for the fifth week … “Don’t Tell ‘Em” by Jeremih featuring YG holds at #7 for the second week in its 19th week. The song reached #6 … Bobby Shmurda's “Hot Boy” holds at #8 for the second week in its 14th week.
Ed Sheeran's “Don't” rebounds from #11 to #9 in its 21st week. This is the highest that Sheeran has ever ranked on the Hot 100 … Hozier's “Take Me To Church” dips from #9 to #10 in its 12th week.
Sam Smith's “Stay With Me” finally drops out of the top 10 this week. As if to cushion the blow, the song tops the 3 million mark in digital sales this week.
"Love Me Harder" by Ariana Grande & The Weeknd jumps from #37 to #24 in its fourth week.
"Only" by Nicki Minaj featuring Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown debuts at #54. It’s the second single from Minaj’s third studio album, The Pinkprint, which is due Dec. 15. The lead single, “Anaconda,” reached #2. “Only” is Minaj’s 55th Hot 100 hit. Incidentally, this is the second song titled “Only” to make the chart. A Nine Inch Nails song with this title hit #90 in 2005.
Coldplay's “A Sky Full Of Stars” tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. The song reached #10 on the Hot 100.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-imagine-dragons-returns-005027155.htmlChart Watch: Imagine Dragons ReturnsBy Paul Grein, Yahoo! Chart Watch Imagine Dragons' “I Bet My Life” enters the Hot 100 at #53. It's the week's second-highest new entry (after Taylor Swift's “Blank Space”). “I Bet My Life” is the first single from the band's upcoming second studio album. Their debut album, Night Visions, reached #2 and has sold 2,346,000 copies. It spawned three top 15 hits on the Hot 100: “It’s Time,” “Radioactive” and “Demons.” “Radioactive” reached #3 and received a Grammy nomination for Record Of The Year. This week’s big news on the Hot 100 is Taylor Swift's “Shake It Off” returning to #1. That was the lead of a Chart Watch blog which we posted Wednesday. If you missed it, here's a link. This blog will deal with key debuts and moves below the top 10. Sam Smith's “I'm Not The Only One” jumps from #16 to #12 in its ninth week … “Lifestyle” by Rich Gang featuring Young Thug & Rich Homie Quan jumps from #17 to #16 in its 16th week. Taylor Swift's “Blank Space” is the week's top new entry at #18. Three other Swift songs debut on this week's chart. “Style” opens at #60, “Wildest Dreams” at #76 and “Bad Blood” at #80. This ups Swift's total of Hot 100 hits to 66—which puts her just seven hits behind Aretha Franklin as the female artist with the most Hot 100 hits in history. (Not to put a damper on this, but it’s much easier to hit the Hot 100 now than it used to be. When you can have numerous songs charting in a single week, it tends to swell your total quickly.) Calvin Harris lands his seventh top 20 hit as “Blame” (featuring John Newman) jumps from #21 to #19 in its eighth week. The song reached #1 on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart in September. It’s from Harris’s fourth studio album, Motion, which is set to enter next week’s Billboard 200 right around #4 (30K). "Tuesday" by I LOVE MAKONNEN featuring Drake vaults from #35 to #20 in its sixth week … “Fireball” by Pitbull featuring John Ryan jumps from #30 to #23 in its 13th week … “Love Me Harder” by Ariana Grande & The Weeknd jumps from #37 to #24 in its fourth week … Rae Sremmurd's “No Type” jumps from #38 to #25 in its sixth week. Big Sean lands his seventh top 30 hit as “I Don’t F**k With You” (featuring E-40) jumps from #34 to #26 in its sixth week. Big Sean has held the lead position on five of those hits. His featured credits to make the top 30 are Justin Bieber's “As Long As You Love Me” and Drake's “All Me” (which also featured 2 Chainz). Sam Hunt's “Leave The Night On” leaps from #36 to #30 in its 19th week. The song jumps to #1 on Hot Country Songs, dethroning Jason Aldean's “Burnin' It Down,” which held the top spot for 14 weeks. “Leave The Night On” is from Hunt's debut album Montevallo which enters The Billboard 200 at #3 this week (and Top Country Albums at #1). Michael Jackson's “Thriller” re-enters the chart at 35, due to its annual Halloween resurgence. The song sold 39K digital copies in the week ending Nov. 2, bringing its total to 3,689,000. Jackson was a shrewd career strategist, but I doubt even he knew he was creating a Halloween perennial when he cut this song in 1982. "Only" by Nicki Minaj featuring Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown is the week’s third-highest new entry at #54. (“Thriller is a re-entry.) “Only” is the second single from Minaj’s third studio album, The Pinkprint, which is due Dec. 15. The lead single, “Anaconda,” reached #2. “Only” is Minaj’s 55th Hot 100 hit. Incidentally, this is the second song titled “Only” to make the chart. A Nine Inch Nails song with this title hit #90 in 2005. "Beg For It" by Iggy Azalea featuring MO leaps from #92 to #62 in its second week … Meghan Trainor's “Lips Are Movin” jumps from #93 to #70 in its second week. OK Go's “I Won't Let You Down” debuts at #71. It's the alternative band's second Hot 100 hit. “Here It Goes Again” hit #38 in 2006. This is from the band's fourth studio album, Hungry Ghosts, which was released in October … Ella Henderson's “Ghost” debuts at #75. It's from her debut album, Chapter One. The song spent two weeks at #1 on The U.K.’s Official Singles Chart in June. Florida Georgia Line's “Sun Daze” re-enters the chart at #92. The song has climbed as high as #83 … Kenny Chesney's “Til It's Gone” debuts at #100. It's from his 16th studio album, The Big Revival, which reached #2 on The Billboard 200 in September.

I'm surprised No Type has out-peaked No Flex Zone, since it doesn't feel as big imo.

On another topic, how many weeks did Sam Smith stay in the top 10? It seemed longer than Rude, but am not sure. Because it was, in fact longer. Finally, I'm not sure if that article meant to say that Ariana has stayed in the top TEN for half a year (I thought she had not been in the top 5 for a week at least but maybe I'm wrong) You're right - she's missed a couple weeks in the top 5 over that 26 weeks, but has been in the top 10 the whole time. Well, dammit - there goes all my research.

An interesting chart trivia links Ariana and Mariah again :) - Mariah Carey spent 26 consecutive weeks in the top 5 with Fantasy and One Sweet Day, then OSD slipped to #7 and a week later Always be my baby reached the top 5 again -it'll stay 15 weeks in the top 10. That means Mariah remained 41 consecutive weeks in the top 10. Could Ariana beat her? :o
Speaking of Mariah and current charts. ABMB became the #1 song with most weeks at #2: 9 (I think the previous record was Exhale with 8 weeks). If that 'record' still holds, could Taylor beat it?

"Exhale" had eleven weeks at #2, which, I believe, is still the record for most weeks at #2 on the Hot 100 (by a #1 hit or a #2 hit). Most weeks at #2 for a #2 hit is a tie between Foreigner's "Waiting for a Girl like You" and Missy Elliott's "Work It", with ten apiece.

So the consecutive weeks are actually for the top 10? Then props to popstop for those stats. The most recent I could remember was last year when Justin Timberlake stayed in the top 10 for 38 weeks with "Suit & Tie", "Mirrors" , "Holy Grail"

"Shake" reclaims the Hot 100's summit with a 1 percent gain in overall points, while "Bass" drops by 9 percent. "Shake" leads Radio Songs for a fourth week (136 million in audience, down 5 percent, according to Nielsen BDS); holds at its No. 2 peak on Streaming Songs (10.8 million U.S. streams, down 3 percent); and leads the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart for a sixth week (3.5 million, down 5 percent). Why do they report both Streaming and On-Demand like they are separate components? Isn't On-Demand part of Streaming? It would be like them reporting Digital Songs and iTunes Songs as components. Weird. Will this "returns" thing stop now that pre-orders don't count toward the Hot 100? I don't get why singles tied to pre-orders ever counted toward the Hot 100 anyway since people were actually buying the album.

For example, if I bought SIO as a single purchase (not as pre-order), but I decide a few weeks or months later to CMA, it will be counted as a return during that chart week.

Any track released with an album pre-order tie-in, after iTunes stopped reporting instant grats, won't be affected by CMA transactions.

For the life of me I still don't understand the CMA/Pre-Order sales deduction business, and when I think I might have it understood, it doesn't make any sense to me why they would do that.

^ Let's say you buy a can of soda for $2. Then you find out next week a six pack of soda is a better deal for $7. The store owner says you can still get the 6-pack deal, they'll just charge you $5 more and give you five sodas. The store will just count that as a return of the first soda and a new six pack sale, not as a six pack sale AND a single can of soda sale -- after all, they didn't give you 7 sodas or get $9.
That's CMA.
What Billboard says is that since they can't go back in time to a previous week to subtract your "return" and change the chart, they will process all the returns when the CMA sale happens. Since there are still new people buying the single that week, when they compile the Hot 100 they will look only at the new sales and just ignore the returns -- but they DO subtract the sales from the actual digital sales chart so that the song's total is accurate.
Don't know if that helps. Long story short: CMA has no effect on the Hot 100, but it does affect the digital sales numbers.

And "Shake it Off" looks to be the last big release impacted by this CMA nonsense, anyhow.

If we are talking top ten then it would be 32 weeks starting from January 5th, 2013 when TS climbed 13-10 until August 10th after which week CHU fell 9-13.
