Really getting down to the wire here entering the top 30. There are five songs that hit #1 in 2014: "I Wanna Get Better", "Magic", "Pompeii", "Cardiac Arrest" and "Habits (Stay High)". Coldplay had a really great come-back year for me with Ghosts Stories but this section is definitely dominated by newer acts. In addition to being #1, "Pompeii" ties for the longest running song on the chart at 28 weeks (the other is still to come). The song charts high this year despite half of those 28 weeks being spent in 2013 but longevity goes a long way and I couldn't get this song out of my head for a good chunk of this year.
Numbers 30-21 are below.
30. Bastille - "Bad Blood" Total Points: 960 Peak: 2 Weeks on Chart: 19
29. Bear Hands- "Agora" Total Points: 968 Peak: 3 Weeks on Chart: 21
28. Bleachers - "I Wanna Get Better" Total Points: 980 Peak: 1 (3) Weeks on Chart: 20
27. Coldplay - "Magic" Total Points: 987 Peak: 1 (2) Weeks on Chart: 21
26. The Black Keys - "Gotta Get Away" Total Points: 990 Peak: 2 Weeks on Chart: 17
25. Bastille - "Pompeii" Total Points: 1029 Peak: 1 (6) Weeks on Chart: 28
24. Bad Suns - "Cardiac Arrest" Total Points: 1050 Peak: 1 (3) Weeks on Chart: 23
23. Tove Lo - "Habits (Stay High)" Total Points: 1060 Peak: 1 (1) Weeks on Chart: 26
22. Joywave - "Tongues (Ft. Kopps)" Total Points: 1,071 Peak: 5 Weeks on Chart: 22
21. George Ezra - "Budapest" Total Points: 1078 Peak: 3 Weeks on Chart: 23

On to the top 20 now and there is quite a mix of styles and sounds going on here. A pretty general reflection of what I like being all over the place. Arctic Monkeys has long been a favorite of mine and AM was just too fantastic - I bop to it on the daily. Glad to have Phantogram back too. They had a great year for me also as Voices was one of my favorite albums as evidenced by the placement of both "Black Out Days" and "Fall In Love". Six of the songs in this section hit #1 on my chart: "Come A Little Closer", "Thunder Clatter", "The Walker", "Weekend", "Fall In Love" and "Stolen Dance". The other four songs peaked inside the top 5. I wasn't sure that "Stolen Dance" would place as high as it did but, again, longevity really counts and this is another of the longer-running songs on my chart.
Songs 20-11 are below. The top 10 should be up this evening.
20. Phantogram - "Black Out Days" Total Points: 1,092 Peak: 3 Weeks on Chart: 21
19. Cage The Elephant - "Come A Little Closer" Total Points: 1,100 Peak: 1 (1) Weeks on Chart: 24
18. CHVRCHES - "The Mother We Share" Total Points: 1,113 Peak: 2 Weeks on Chart: 19
17. Royal Blood - "Figure It Out" Total Points: 1122 Peak: 5 Weeks on Chart: 21
16. Wild Cub - "Thunder Clatter" Total Points: 1,134 Peak: 1 (1) Weeks on Chart: 22
15. Arctic Monkeys - "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?" Total Points: 1,155 Peak: 3 Weeks on Chart: 19
14. Fitz & The Tantrums - "The Walker" Total Points: 1,197 Peak: 1 (1) Weeks on Chart: 21
13. Priory - "Weekend" Total Points: 1,210 Peak: 1 (1) Weeks on Chart: 21
12. Phantogram - "Fall In Love" Total Points: 1,211 Peak: 1 (2) Weeks on Chart: 22
11. Milky Chance - "Stolen Dance" Total Points: 1,216 Peak: 1 (2) Weeks on Chart: 26
(LOL! Thanks for the heads up Green Baron)

Well, here we are inside the Top 10 of 2014 and what a fun mix of sounds. I really think it encapsulates what 2014 was for me musically. A bit of commentary follows each song as I did end up pondering how the songs ended up where they did.
Thanks for following and onto great new music in 2015! Also, the Dance Top 100 will begin tomorrow with the 'Just Missed List'. :)
10. Of Monsters And Men - "Dirty Paws" Total Points: 1,239 Peak: 2 Weeks on Chart: 23
Of Monsters and Menβs My Head Is An Animal is probably one of my favorite releases of the last few years and βDirty Pawsβ was always the standout to me. Its no surprise it ends up in the top 10 as it was one of the more infectious songs to me this last year. I was a bit surprised it didnβt get number one when it was charting but a #2 peak is good. It held #2 for 3 weeks straight.
9. Alt-J - "Left Hand Free" Total Points: 1,260 Peak: 4 Weeks on Chart: 20
I first heard of alt-J with their song βTessellateβ a few years back and I was really drawn to their sound. Typically pretty chill but upon hearing βLeft Hand Freeβ, I noticed a bit more punch in their sound but still with the vocals I love from them. I fell in love with the more bluesy sound and couldnβt get this song off repeat for a while. It ended up peaking at number 4 but only because of tough competition at the time. I gave it a good amount of plays even after its chart run so it ends pretty high up for 2014.
8. Hozier - "Take Me To Church" Total Points: 1,281 Peak: 1 (2) Weeks on Chart: 24
βTake Me To Churchβ was instant for me. From Hozierβs vocals down to the smart lyrics, I just couldnβt get enough. I still listen to this song regularly. I love the metaphor and the haunting nature of the song is all too appropriate. I loved it even more upon watching the video as well. Ultimately, this spent 2 weeks at #1. Its no surprise this song is in the top 10.
7. The Black Keys - "Fever" Total Points: 1,300 Peak: 1 (1) Weeks on Chart: 20
The Black Keys have been hit or miss for me since their debut but El Camino and Turn Blue have reeled me back in. How can you not love the melody on βFeverβ? Its just too groovy. You gotta get down. Its that simple. The song spent one week at number one but I played it quite regularly after its chart run too.
6. Bear Hands - "Giants" Total Points: 1,302 Peak: 2 Weeks on Chart: 22
I saw these guys with Passion Pit a few years back but totally forgot about them. It wasnβt until hearing βGiantsβ that I remembered them at all. This song is way too catchy and upbeat to ignore. And what fun lyrics! What a fun band really - great sound that stood out to me this year in particular. Again, another song that would have hit number one had it been out at a different time β ultimately peaked at number two.
5. KONGOS - "Come With Me Now" Total Points: 1,320 Peak: 1 (3) Weeks on Chart: 23
That accordion sound really made this song a huge earworm for me. Plus, that constant stomp beat paired up with the growly vocals really catapulted βCome With Me Nowβ. Discovering new bands is always fun and these guys were a great find [Iβm a sucker for 1) a band of brothers 2) South Africans]. The song spent 3 weeks atop my chart so number five year-end makes a lot of sense here.
4. Vance Joy - "Riptide" Total Points: 1,344 Peak: 1 (2) Weeks on Chart: 25
Folksy-indie type stuff is right up my alley. And Vance Joy stormed right into that alley and turned it upside down. Its hard to ignore someone named Vance (although not his real name) and then you get that ukulele going and its all over. βRiptideβ is just plain fun. Its no wonder it spent two weeks at number one and was also one of the longer-running songs on my chart at 25 weeks.
3. SomeKindaWonderful - "Reverse" Total Points: 1,430 Peak: 3 Weeks on Chart: 21
How cool is this song actually telling the story in βReverseβ? Reminded me of the Backwards episode of Seinfield hah. I was happy to discover SomeKindaWonderful as I really like their retro sound β love the kick drum on this song and Jordyβs vocals. This one peaked at number three due to competition but Iβve played it quite a bit. Didnβt think itβd end up as high as number three but Iβm glad it did.
2. Arctic Monkeys - "Do I Wanna Know?" Total Points: 1,449 Peak: 1 (2) Weeks on Chart: 28
Arctic Monkeys is one of my favorite bands so its no surprise they did so well this year. βDo I Wanna Knowβ in particular was just one of those songs I couldnβt turn off or skip β ever. Psychedelic β thatβs what this song is. And I love it. All I ever want to do when I hear this song is get high which may or may not have actually happened on occasion. This was #1 for 2 weeks but is the other song tied for the longest-running of 2014 at 28 weeks on chart (tied with "Pompeii"). I thought this would number one for the year butβ¦
1. Big Data - "Dangerous" (Ft. Joywave) Total Points: 1,470 Peak: 1 (4) Weeks on Chart: 26
β¦Big Data came out of left field for me and I apparently never looked back. What a cool song theme (well, band theme really [can we call him a band? Soloist?]) So true and so current - Big Brother is watching basically. But the beat is what does it for me - a little retro and a little harsh but a great combo. Plus, Daniel on vocals really brings it all together nicely. This song spent four straight weeks at number one as well as 26 weeks on chart so its no wonder βDangerousβ is the number one song of 2014.

Yasssss "Dirty Paws" such a good song, and such a great album/band as well, like you said. "Dirty Paws" won't have a good showing on my 2014 year-end chart because only 6 of its 23 weeks were in 2014. However, it's in my top 20 songs since summer 2012, when I start my chart. :) "Your Bones" was always my favorite from the album. Ready for them to release new music, finally. ;_;

"Dirty Paws" only charted for 10 weeks in 2014 and it was also in the Top 20 of 2013. But I still give songs points even after they're off the chart - just don't give them enough to be surveyed. So basically this song never stopped getting points the entire year which is part of what catapults it in 2014.
at the fact that you also charted it for 23 weeks.

I guess I should comment here before you begin with the your EOY Dance chart.
Anyway, great to see "Bad Blood", "I Wanna Get Better", "Magic", "Gotta Get Away", "Pompeii", "Habits (Stay High)", "Tongues", "Budapest", "The Mother We Share", "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?", "Fall In Love", "Stolen Dance" and almost everything in your Top 10, with the exception of "Giants" and "Reverse", which I haven't listened yet.

Time to catch up: Yayy "I Wanna Get Better", "Magic", "Gotta Get Away", and "Pompeii" in the Top 30!! "Cardiac Arrest" and "Habits"! Yay for "Figure It Out" and "Stolen Dance" in the Top 20! Top 10 time: "Dirty Paws" is amazing. I always forget about that song. Actually, going to buy it right now. "Take Me to Church" at #8! :) Never got too much into "Fever", but it grew on me after awhile. "Gotta Get Away" is much better. "Come With Me Now"!!! One of my top Alt songs of the year also. "Riptide"! This might have been my longest running song on my chart for the year (not on anymore). "Dangerous" is #1!!!!! Excellent choice!! Great chart and pretty much on point with every selection! Can't wait for the dance one (where I hope "Resonance" kicks some ass)!

Thanks surfy! Definitely give a listen to Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. That's still my favorite of their albums. Juan Carlos thanks for commenting! I'm glad you like all of those. Bear Hands has really grown on me as a band and "Reverse" was pretty unique to me so I would give them a listen when you can. Thanks maine I'm glad to hear you like all of those selections. I honestly thought "Do I Wanna Know" would be #1 just of the top of my head but I was pleasantly surprised to see "Dangerous" on top when I did the numbers. {"Resonance" Spoiler Alert:} I wish "Resonance" were a bit higher. But that's what happens with a lot of songs that come in later in the year.

Cash Cash and Naughty Boy just missed the top 100. I'll predict that anything from Robin Schulz will peak high in the Top 100 chart.

Sad Knock You Out, Goodness Gracious and La La La didn't make the top 100 :( So close! I'm surprised "Goodness Gracious" went as high as it did given that I didn't chart it for long. However, 'recurrent' points, if you will, saved it because I got really into it after the fact lol.

Definitely here for your entire top ten except "Giants" and "Reverse", which I just don't know. I'll have to check them out.
It's a shame that "Knock You Out", "I Lived", "Goodness Gracious", "I'm Not the Only One", "Blink" and "La La La" didn't make you top 100, but I'm looking forward to seeing what did.
