sadchild SeanMike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: February 27, 2016 DROPPERS:Selena Gomez - Same Old Love (from 40) Hedley - Lost in Translation (from 33) CHAP featuring Lil' One - Walk Away (from 32) Enya - So I Could Find My Way (from 30) Years & Years - Eyes Shut (from 28) Lindsay Ell moves into the #1 spot this week. DJ Snake will be fighting to keep Lipstick Gypsy back as he challenges for the top, but I think Lindsay can hold him back next week at least, so the real fight will come in two weeks. Troye Sivan returns to the Top 10 this week, and looks to have another future #1 on his hands. Incidentally, this would be his third #1 in a row if he goes that...the last time anyone scored as many as 3 #1s in a row here was back when Katy Perry strung together 5 during the Teenage Dream era (2010-12). And if memory serves, the only other acts to do it ever have been Lady Gaga (Telephone, Alejandro, Born This Way) and Avril Lavigne (twice). Another potential future #1? "Play House". In her 5th week on the chart, Colette ties the biggest move of the week and leaps six to #17. Recent high-profile releases play a big part in this week's debuts, with three of the five being so. Taylor shoots straight in at #40 with "New Romantics", and in the process scores her 14th chart single here. Now, it turns out that Rihanna had broken a tie with her and Pink a few weeks back when "Work" landed, scoring her own 14th chart single. So, Taylor's debut restores a tie with her. That's second place among all acts - only Avril Lavigne has more, with 19. Years & Years keep their single string going, though this sixth chart single off Communion is, like "Foundation", not actually a single. Even still, it extends a dubious distinction for them...the record for the album that's charted the most songs without any of them making it to #1 is now currently held by Communion, with its spate of songs. Should "Ties" go on to be the one that finally does it, however, then the record will default back to the album that had held that distinction before it - Rihanna's Loud. That album yielded four charting singles here: "Only Girl (In the World)" - #3 "What's My Name?" - #2 "S&M" - #4 "California King Bed" - #16 This said, I will also note that should both "Doubt" and "Ride" fail to reach the summit for Twenty One Pilots, then Blurryface would share that second-place (dis-?)honor. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. NEW PICKS OF THE WEEK:Taylor Swift - New Romantics (#40) Anchor & Braille - Watch You BurnCash Cash featuring Jacquie Lee - AftershockRayvon Owen - Can't Fight ItThe Josh Abbott Band featuring Carly Pearce - Wasn't That DrunkUntil next week... -Mike

Let it be said that this week's chart does not come lazy. Six songs debut this week. And one of those is a Country song, which brings the total number of those on my chart up to 7 - more than have been on my chart at any given time in the past two years. And, "By the Way" - one of those 7 is the song that's been at #1 for the past two weeks. Does it stay for a third? We'll find out... @jakelmmrs44 Juan Carlos yuh yuh josh Kurt Daryl the Beryl β The Manticore β― @drag27 Zeebz surfy Rose Wintur Albie ry4n Au$tin β

sadchild SeanMike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: March 12, 2016 DROPPERS:RΓFΓS - Say a Prayer For Me (from 40) Adele - Hello (from 37) Aquilo - Never Seen You Get So Low (from 36) Tove Lo - Influence (from 34) Disclosure featuring Lorde - Magnets (from 33) One Direction - Perfect (from 30) "Middle" takes over the top spot this week, though it may be a brief stay, as both Lipstick Gypsy and Troye Sivan are poised to take over next week (though obviously they can't both). Lost Kings have lost their bullet at #4 and look to be effectively out of the running. Future contenders below the Top 5 should start to establish themselves next week. Collective Soul score their second Top 10 hit on my chart, as "AYTA" moves 11-9. Meanwhile, Colette Carr sprints to the Top 10 in just 7 weeks, which matches the pace of St. Lucia (who himself drops out of the Top 10 after 3 months there). That she will be a future #1 seems a foregone conclusion - when she will get there, however, remains to be seen. With the recent Top 10 hits falling, the teens are nice and active this week. The same cannot be said for the 20s, however, which see the icebox settle in this week. This could make things VERY rough down there with the six debuts steaming onto the chart this week, particularly when one also considers the single bulletless song below #20 ("Train Track", which will consequently likely depart next week). In the meantime, Taylor seizes an opportunity and sprints up six to claim the Biggest Move of the week. Incidentally, "Ties" was last week's Biggest Mover, and that's Years & Years' first song to garner that honor on any given week yet - a promising sign, no? And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. There are a LOT of New Picks this week, influenced by holding over what would have been those from last week, as well as an onslaught from this year's Eurovision (whose song roster I still have yet to check out fully)! NEW PICKS OF THE WEEK:MUNA - WinterbreakKelly Clarkson - Piece By Piece (Idol version)Janet Jackson - The Great ForeverKris Allen - Love Will Find YouThe Knocks featuring Carly Rae Jepsen - Love Me Like ThatThe Summer Set - Missin' YouGreat Good Fine OK - Already LoveSmallpools - Street FightJΓΌri Pootsmann - PlayDami Im - Sound of SilenceJusts - HeartbeatRykka - The Last of Our KindAgnete - IcebreakerUntil next week... -Mike

Love your first two debuts! "Chewing Gum" is infectious and "Water Under the Bridge" was an instant favorite of mine from the album. Nice to see "New Romantics" increasing as well as "Work." And ahhhhhh! "Doubt"!!!!!

sadchild Sean MTSChart21Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: March 26, 2016 DROPPER:Alden Richards - Wish I May (from 33) Last week, Lipstick Gypsy managed to hold Troye Sivan off for a week at #1. This week, they fall to #6, while Troye takes over. "Heaven" basically has no chance to reach the top, as Troye certainly won't be pushed aside so easily, and there's only so long that it'd be able to hold back both Kacey and Colette. Despite Colette's rapid pace, Kacey won't be so easily passed, either. The crazy thing, here, is that after Colette...it's really hard to imagine any future #1 contenders for quite a while. So get used to seeing Troye/Kacey/Colette domination for a while, folks. Collective Soul could still score a second Top 5 single before all is said and done, and Guy Sebastian hits the Top 10 this week. As do Twenty One Pilots, for their third time - actually, they could make this their third Top 5 single as well. Rihanna also looks bound for the Top 10 soon, as does Reba McEntire, who after appearing to struggle a bit in the upper 20s, has now moved 20-16-13 over a two-week period. I'm not sure if Kygo is going to reach the Top 10, or if he's going to fall short right there. Bonnie McKee and The Corrs both seem closer to peaking, though. Definitely peaked, though? Josh Dorr, who reached #20 last week, and Duke Dumont, who slides 10 this week after three weeks at #26. With her debut last week, Kelly Clarkson scores her 11th chart single on my chart. That ranks her tied for 5th place among the respective females. Let's have a look: 1st place - 19; Avril Lavigne 2nd place - 14; Rihanna and Taylor Swift, both currently charting 3rd place - 13; Pink 4th place - 12; Britney Spears and Lady Gaga 5th place - 11; Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, and Katy Perry 6th place - 10; Madonna Among all acts, Train also have 11 (plus Pat Monahan has an additional solo appearance), and between his solo appearances and those with Matchbox Twenty, Rob Thomas also has 11. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. NEW PICKS OF THE WEEK:Carrie Underwood - Church BellsBirdy - Wild HorsesMartin Garrix featuring John Martin & Michel Zitron - Now That I've Found YouDan + Shay - From the Ground UpUntil next week... -Mike

sadchild Sean MTSChart21Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: April 2, 2016 DROPPERS:St. Lucia - Dancing on Glass (from 40) Cape Cub - Keep Me in Mind (from 39) Duke Dumont - Melt (from 36) Jake Miller - Sunshine (from 31) Troye easily spends a second week on top, and next week he'll try for a third. As he does that, however, his closest contenders Kacey and Colette line right up behind him. Past that point, however... Collective Soul are likely peaking now, even as they turn their second-ever chart appearance into their second Top 5. Twenty One Pilots have plenty of life in them as "Doubt" leapfrogs Guy Sebastian and takes them to #6. Getting past Colette and Kacey will be mighty tough, however. Guy Sebastian is also likely peaking. Rihanna and Drake have life left in them yet, but as with Twenty One Pilots, getting all the way to #1 will not come easy. Kygo was looking shakier a couple of weeks ago, but this week takes "Stay" into the Top 10. I'm not sure how much farther that one will go, however. Further down, Bonnie McKee & !llmind appear to be peaking at #14. The Corrs hold at #16, but they unlike Bonnie hold onto their bullet, so this might not yet be the end for them. Same for Isac Elliot at #23, as this was a particularly bad week for him with Gwen and Taylor jumping past. Taylor in turn benefits from a late-in-the-week surge as she ties Alex Newell for the Biggest Move of the week, up 5. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. sadchild Sean MTSChart21Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: April 16, 2016 DROPPERS:Lindsay Ell - By the Way (from 40) Bonnie McKee & !llmind - Speed of Light (from 27) Kacey Musgraves scores her third #1 song this week, and her and Colette knock Troye back to #3. The two ladies will square off next week, while Twenty One Pilots wait in the wings at #4. They, in the meantime, now have Rihanna, Reba McEntire, and Austin Mahone lining up behind them to deal with... Speaking of Twenty One Pilots, however, note how their other song "Ride" gets pushed backward two notches this week by Taylor, Gwen, and Alex Newell - but it retains its bullet, which is a telltale sign that the song isn't finished right here. CHVRCHES score their second Top 10 as "Empty Threat" rises 12-9, and could very well fare better than the #8 showing for "Leave a Trace". Years & Years creep up to #12 with their fastest-rising hit yet, which excludes "Desire" from the conversation, as that was on the first re-started chart in 2015. But "Ties" is showing signs that it could go on to best the #4 showing that that song pulled in - who knows? Maybe it could fare even better than that...! Back to Taylor and Gwen, who are racing neck-and-neck right behind them. But separating the pack are The Corrs, who after 13 weeks on the chart haven't quite given up yet. They inch up one to #13 this week, and stand a chance to sneak into Top 10 territory next week with three bulletless songs now just ahead of them. Further down, the cheap thrills have clearly run out for Sia, as last week she lost her bullet and slipped three to #23, and this week slides even further, down to #32. Now, onto a chart feat that was actually tied the previous week. When I was checking for this chart feat I was fully expecting to be saying here that this would've set a new record in this category. But much to my surprise, it was instead a tie of an already-set mark! On this week's - and the previous week's - charts, there are five American Idol alumni all charting at once, which ties the mark for the most AI alumni together. When was the last time I had 5 Idols on my chart at once? That was the week of August 14, 2010, and 3 of the 5 in the survey now were in the survey then: David Archuleta, with "Somethin' Bout Love". Kris Allen, with "The Truth" (featuring Pat Monahan). Adam Lambert, with "If I Had You". Daughtry, with "September". And, Kelly Clarkson, with "All I Ever Wanted". Without double-checking again, I believe this is definitely the time with the most winners at once, however, with Carrie, Kris, and Kelly. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. New Picks of the Week cover both this week and the previous week. NEW PICKS OF THE WEEK:WSTRN - Come DownAquilo - SilhouetteAlesso featuring Nico & Vinz - I Wanna KnowKINGDM featuring Kevin Garrett - BabyTroye Sivan - CoolRihanna - Kiss it BetterTegan & Sara - BoyfriendHandsome Ghost - GraduateUntil next week... -Mike

sadchild Sean MTSChart21Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: April 23, 2016 DROPPERS:DJ Snake featuring Bipolar Sunshine - Middle (from 40) Sia featuring Sean Paul - Cheap Thrills (from 32) Janet Jackson - Night (from 31) Kacey holds onto the top spot for a second week, and will battle Colette again next week. After that, Twenty One Pilots, Rihanna/Drake, and now Reba McEntire enter the fray. It may be worth looking at Austin Mahone and Years & Years down the road, as well. Austin's had a brisk rise to the Top 10, and only holds at #7 this week because the Top 6 remain too strong to advance. Years & Years, meanwhile, see their fastest rise to the Top 10 in a normal chart run yet. The Corrs also crack the Top 10 this week, but given their struggles in the teens, I'm not sure how much farther they'll go. The lower half of the chart is extremely packed this week, which is a big contributor to no song moving up more than 4 notches. And even as she tries to line herself up for future #1 consideration, Rihanna now assumes second place all to herself for most charted songs, as "Kiss it Better" becomes her 15th chart entry this week. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk.
