Wow, TOL picked up on YouTube streams worldwide!
I think sales wise, it's close. TOL with a slight edge: 304k to probably 296k for UF! but who knows? Can't always tell with Kworb and Billboard always reports different sales. TOL also had more positive radio spins last week than UF! did. Also, while UF! did gain significant points from Friday onwards, TOL was still selling real well so sales for both could increase but the gap would still be small.
I'm thinking Billboard would post digital sales like: 1.) Thinking Out Loud 306,000 2.) Uptown Funk 299,000
Or some crap like that.
The YouTube streams are promising though. Thanks Daniel!
It's gonna be REALLY close.

So I guess it is possible after all for TOL to get #1 this week! keeping my hopes up! Need it to get some more big gains in airplay (and I guess for UF to decrease even though I wanted it to break 240M AI...TOL reaching #1 on the Hot 100 is more important for me though lol)

Kinda crazy how strong the #1's have been since last summer. Shake It Off, All About That Bass, Blank Space, and Uptown Funk have all been huge and very strong #1's. Makes me wonder if that is going to be the new trend for #1's.
I miss the days when #1's had high turnover rates sorta like near the end of 2010. Gives more songs the chance to be on top for at least one week.

Birthday is decent, but I do not get the hype about Sugar. Idk, I found the chorus really annoying :/ Same with Animals. Still annoyed Maps performed the weakest. I also find the start of Sugar (some of the instrumentation) to be similar to Love Me Harder. I don't think the songs are similar (birthday and sugar) but timing probably helped Sugar. It was released during the Valentine's Day season and people seemed to like the wedding crasher video, especially as it involved real people. Birthday on the other hand, had kind of a child like Nickelodeon type video. It wasn't adult sexy but just cutesy. I don't think it made people want to purchase the song. It's also probably true that people prefer high pitch Adam Levine to high pitch Katy.

I think the US streaming difference might be even more significant than the worldwide one since I stipulate that the Grammys affect US streams much more than streams of other countries since USA is the primary audience of the Grammys (correct me if I'm wrong there) and plus there's Spotify which will see dramatic effects of the Grammys I'm guessing. That being said, TOL might have a sizable enough lead in streaming over UF to get the Hot 100 #1

@paulgrein @yahoomusic Thanks. I had fun with it. Alas, a new editor came in and killed the column. I'll still write for them.

I surely hope most of the streams are from here! They have to be lmao... plus with good sales and good radio airplay, the sky's still the limit! :)

Is everyone here wanting TOL to hit #1 this week? I am. UF is great but time for Ed to get his Absolutely. I'm all for Ed getting a #1 as well as UF getting 10 weeks at #1 with the sales patterns for UF I expect that it will return to #1 on the 3/7 chart (assuming TOL is #1 2/28) and probably stay there for 3/14 and maybe 3/21. One more week after that would be the tenth and after that I'm ready for another #1 (as long as it isn't FourFiveSeconds)

I don't hate it I just find it really boring and don't want to see it at #1 instead of some of the other songs. It doesn't seem really threatening though given that it's not going very far on iTunes ATM. It doesn't seem like the kind of single that will hold up very long. I can see it peaking at #3 like Stay did.

Nah imbondz, you're not the only one looking for TOL to get #1. :)
Hmm, seems like Mark didn't really gain much after going back to #1 (then again it WAS the weekend) lol
Also on the current chart, it seems like TOL is picking up steam again (though no green updates for the top three songs, which are UF, Shawn and TOL). But LMLYD could be a surprise upset lol

I enjoy Sugar a lot, but I'll admit that I'm a bit pressed that its smashing when Birthday didn't. because dark horse was still like number 4 when it was released. LOL Dark Horse and her power...it was just too strong, Unconditionally & Birthday didn't stand a chance.

omg can people stop with the same excuses. people didn't like birthday. period. if they did then it would have sold well and had good callout scores and streaming (not talking about the video since the length decreased replayability, but other streaming like spotify). animals was still huge on airplay when sugar was released yet sugar is still a big hit. I know, I just find it weird how people didn't like Birthday, but like Sugar which is basically the same song. Do they just like Adam's falsetto better? I don't know why, but I like Sugar 10x more than Birthday. Sugar seems more catchy to me. Birthday was good, but got old so fast.

Is everyone here wanting TOL to hit #1 this week? I am. UF is great but time for Ed to get his I feel like the only one who doesn't want TOL to hit #1. It is kinda boring and slow IMO, but Uptown Funk is getting annoying, so i'm like half and half right now leaning to uptown Funk.

I really love Thinking Out Loud. I wouldn't mind it going to number one. I'm also madly in love with the voice of Bruno Mars, so if he and Mark stay at number one, I won't mind so much. However, I don't think TOL will hit number one unless it has a much bigger lead in sales then the current estimate. I just don't see it happening unless it holds on further down the road.
I also pray to god LMLYD NEVER hits number one. I really cannot stand Ellie's voice. UGH.

Agreed. Haaaaaaate 4/5seconds. Ugh. I'm surprised that a lot of you hate fourfiveseconds. I think it's a very well crafted song and unlike any other songs in the radio right now. I don't know about it hitting #1, but I'm loving it. Oh, and I too hope Ed can go at least one week at the top.

I do have a feeling most of the TOL streams are probably U.S.-based due to the post Grammys effect so while UF! had another good stream week, TOL picked up post Grammys...

Ariana Grande One Last Time MV on VEVO 2 Million Views in one day. Could more views put this even higher on the charts this week.Ariana is a bigger artist than she was one year ago,her videos on VEVO now days get lots of views no matter what she releases.
Two Big Taylor songs on the charts- Style going top 10 for sure. Wonderland on Itunes if sales are enrough, this go debut like the previous promo singles did last October just no promotion this time around although.
