On "Blurred Lines" 11th and 12th week, there's "Roar" at number 2 and we're sure that its reign is about to end but with "Uptown Funk!" the possible next #1s (Sugar, Love Me Like You Do) has been in the top 5 for about a month. It's still #1 on iTunes, #1 on radio and streaming (something "Happy" and "Blurred Lines" didn't top).

Really hope it breaks One Sweet Day's record. (never cared for that song much).

To this day I don't think I've heard OSD in full lol. I don't even remember how it goes but in any case I also would be happy Uptown Funk breaks the record because it's one of my favorite of this decade

I've always wished OSD's and I Will Always Love You's weeks at #1 were switched and it was the latter that held the record all these years. Would seem far more fitting. OSD has kinda faded away into a track that only the lambs really know and love. Not that I dislike it mind you, just that its relevance outside her core fans is pretty unapparent.

just my thoughts/opinion...One Sweet Day is still a great song, it's arrangement is stuck in the '90's tho, where I think I Will Always Love You's arrangement, is a bit less stuck. Plus Whitney passing away put the song back in everyone's minds/ears. American Idol / The Voice contestants still sing that song, where OSD never gets airplay outside of random, old school, adult contemporary radio play.

Also, Boys II Men completely disappeared. That couldn't have helped the song.

It seems pretty clear that the next 2-3 weeks belong to Uptown Funk. Breaking a record is still 6 weeks away, which is a long time

Nobody will remember this track 2 years from now, at least we know OSD decades and decades ago! Ok, then what if I say it should be We Belong Together and OSD's weeks at #1 that are switched? Clearly WBT is a much bigger and lasting hit to the general public than OSD. It's just strange is all that such a big hit at the time can have such little impact today outside of the fans. And that is the case with OSD, amazing song or not (and again I do quite like it). I can honestly say though I would have never heard the song in my life if I hadn't become a big Mariah fan and familiarized myself with most of her catalog. I would have been about 5 when it was big so I wouldn't remember that. I just know since I can remember I have never ever heard it anywhere (radio, movies, TV, advertisements, restaurants, certainly not clubs lol, etc) besides when I have played it for myself.

^^^ The thing is the urban crowd who is severely underrepresented here still are very familiar with OSD and bring it up when discussing Mariah. It's not like she has 3 or 4 big songs that people can agree on. When you have 18 # 1's and countless others its very difficult to be defined by one or two tracks.

But no one ever said they disliked Mimi. Well, not on this board anyway. She is very talented. As someone explained, OSD is just ... well ... let's say it hasn't kept up with the times. Is that better now?
Speaking of urban representation, LaWhitney ... now wasn't she "the voice"?
