anyone else sick of this song?? I'm not sick of it at all. I've never heard it on the radio in my area so the only way I hear it is via spotify or CD in my car.
I think it's a great song that deserves/deserved to be a bigger hit.

I REALLY hope this keeps up through the week, it could reach a new peak of #21 this Sunday. It could pass Flo Rida/Jason Derulo who are in freefall, and Skrillex/Diplo could fall out of top 10 and go recurrent. Then it's a case of outstripping Nick Jonas (the only thing coming up quickly behind him) to make top 20 next week, which might also be aided by Zedd coming down.

lmao it's been in the 20s for 12 weeks. bizarre that as soon as the pop bullet rebounds it loses spins on hot ac. nothing makes sense, but hope it keeps managing to chug along!

I really hope my theory of this being a Fall song was right and it's getting ready to finally move. This would be an epic top ten because of the chart run its had. But for now I hope it can at least keep this up long enough to manage top twenty.

I think this is one of those songs that people can recognize, but even after 12 weeks, they can't decide if they like it or not. They get it and appreciate it because it's so different, and they're not shutting it off. I think it can settle in and start gaining more soon. The Q4 tsunami is starting now, though, so it'll be hourly deals and leads from big artists for the rest of the year...

This is definitely being paid by the label to be played. I mean, it's not even top 100 on iTunes. Songs like "Black Magic" is barely being played despite being top 50 on iTunes. Lol!

Lol! as others have said above there are several versions of the song for sale and when combined the iTunes rank is higher (and in the range of other songs that have managed to peak in the teens on the airplay chart)...and its been much higher on iTunes in the past..its hardly shocking or evidence of payola that its being played... I love Black Magic! but its doing ok -- hasn't been out that long and Little Mix aren't radio staples in the USA so they're not going to shoot up the chart quickly

^I wish it is simple like that. then Capitol would have been able to "pay" the pop radio to play both Tori's songs another couple weeks before they collapsed. And the songs might get different endings. :'(
I think the case with Ghost Town is that, the label can do something because it has passable Callouts (net pos 38.6, fav 18.7, and improving by time) and sales (stayed within top 90 sales on iTunes for months now, according to kworb, which is not bad given how slow it is gaining new audience on radio).
As for Black Magic, it is NOT "barely being played". Today is the 56th day of its chart run, and it is at #26 with 3150 spins. On the 56th day, Ghost town was at #30 with 2190 spins (06/28/15). Would you have preferred that number?
Anyway, all songs can get stuck and right now it is not the end for Black Magic. Easy! :)

Doesn't radio look at more than just iTunes when determining what to play? Ghost Town has decent call out scores and it's getting almost 700k daily plays on spotify putting it at #50 on the Global Top 50 chart. It's been on the Hot 100 for 12 weeks staying pretty steady since it's debut too.

I'm def starting to think there's 'some' kind of questionable/ special factor that's keeping this going for so long. It's mind boggling. I get if radio likes or loves a song very much regardless of its iTunes position but this is at the point now you have to wonder lol. Just not going anywhere really. Barely cracking the top 100 at best while radio dropped newer highly ranked songs like rocks. I know this is 'different' and has some decent elements to it but that's basically it.
A song like Uma Thurman took a while to take off on radio but it always had respectable solid sales (been in the top 40) for several months.
Isn't this almost at the point of going recurrent due to how many days/months its been out?

One more time, the ITunes position is in the 70's to 80's combined. Kworb had the past week at this: 88 81 70 77 82 72 77. If you only look at one version, it's just not an accurate picture of its sales position. Based on those sales, and its position on the airplay charts, I don't see anything "special" going on with the song being referred to here.

I don’t really see why there has to be money or some other special reason involved in radio’s decision to play this either. For one thing, I don’t see why the label would pay radio to play this instead of just moving on to the next single. I mean, there are other songs on the album that could be at least somewhat successful singles. Why wouldn’t they try their luck with one of those instead of trying to make this song happen if it’s clear neither radio nor listeners actually have any genuine interest in it? Ghost Town was released in April, it has spent 12 weeks on the Hot 100, so it isn’t like it would be some sort of an embarrassment to just say this isn’t working and move on to the next single at this point.
The sales have been pretty lacklustre the whole time, but that’s not really radio’s problem. It’s possible for people to like a song well enough when they hear it on the radio, but not love it enough to actually buy it. The callout scores for this seem to suggest that this might be the case for Ghost Town. It has a nice net positive score, and fairly low negative and heavy burn scores. From radio’s point of view this could be a song they can pretty safely play without worrying that people hate it so much/are so sick of it that they’ll change the channel when they hear it.

Labels would pay (or provide other compensation) to keep a song on the charts in order to use something in an advertisement or pr for the next single. You might see an advertisement/pr that says " last single went top 20 " or " last single was in top 40 for x number of weeks ". There will be some hook that is designed to impress radio so that they give next single a chance. Right now in a banner on Hits Daily Double for Rita Ora , it says "top 20 at Rhythm". They like to put as many superlatives as possible in advertisements and pr.
I have seen play for other artists before that seemed to scream "pay for play". For example, there was a song that was peaking at number 12 and was dropping steadily for a few days. Suddenly its play at certain top stations picked up and changed course. Within a week it made Top 10 and then dropped like a rock after those stations that had increased play stopped playing it altogether. A few weeks later, the next single was release. Prominent in the advertisement was a line about the first single being in the Top 10.

Does anybody have any theories as to why this song seems to climb during the weekend and fall back during the week? Is that a typical pattern for songs that have been out so long? It makes me think the chart action is reaching markets that haven't really shown the song much support, but since I don't usually follow US charts (I'm a brit) I'm possibly just missing a pattern or something.

^ it's the weekend countdown shows i think. i'm a bit confused, though. i remember you said you hated this song "so much" (was that you? apologies if it was somebody else). i would not make the effort to study its "pattern" if i hate a song, just saying

Eligible to go recurrent 10/4 So what spot would it need to be above to not then, assuming it's still crawling along.
