I can't see that happening. For now it's just the performance that has boosted it and Uptown Funk will be back on top in a day or two. BBHMM's airplay isn't high enough to sustain it for now. If it ever does get a week at #1 on digital songs I think it'll probably be in May or later when its got constant 24/7 promotion via higher radio airplay and a music video.

well, this seems like the best possible timing, since "Sugar"s airplay appears to be peaking...but it'll need a pretty massive sales boost in order to overcome UF's lead in all 3 components.

Sad that Lose Yourself didn't even make the top 100 of all time :( not a single song from him did...but yeah I think most people would agree that LY was his most impact flu and most memorable song. Despite coming out 7 and a half years earlier, it is much more remembered than, say, Not Afraid.

I def cannot see the M5 performance (as good as it may be) giving them anywhere close to the boost they need to overtake UF lol. The song in itself just isn't strong enough and has most def. peaked esp. w/ sales. Plus, if the NCAA is indeed on against it, it's basically 100% not gonna happen but at least theyre 'obviously' giving it that one last shot knowing it's their last.

Yeah I think LMLYD has practically no chance at this point, just like Sugar...I hope EI can keep climbing in sales and streaming. Otherwise, the only thing I think might have a chance to dethrone UF in the future is a surprise debut from someone like Adele.

I think it's a long shot for M5 regardless, but moreso because of UF's current and sustained lead in all components...and not the NCAA stealing all those Voice devotees. **shrug**

There should be an all-time chart for "most remembered/ most well known songs". Like songs that are overall the most well remembered among our collective consciousness. Don't Stop Believin, Lose Yourself, Bohemian Rhapsody, Livin On A Prayer would all be near the top. One Sweet Day probably wouldn't even make the top 1000. I have no idea how they'd go about measuring this, but it would be cool.

no one's actually said it, but doesn't Glee deserve at lot of credit for making DSB "the" 80's classic of today? of course it wasn't some unknown flop pre-Glee, but as people have mentioned, it certainly wasn't as ubiquitous 10 years ago as "Livin' On A Prayer" was at that time. by being the "theme"/signature song of a runaway smash TV show in the late 00's, it introduced the song to a younger crowd (who weren't alive when the original was charting) and brought the original back into the public consciousness in a big way.

point being, all it takes is an association with some new fad to really impact a song's public perception, even decades after its original release. the teens/early 20-something's of Pulse may be quick to say "What's a "One Sweet Day"?" now, but OSD could very well pull a DSB someday too.

Each person is different and will remember songs in different ways. The "Memory 100" really depends on whose memory it is. For each person who is 'Livin' On A Prayer' like it was yesterday, you could probably come up with someone who would not know what you are talking about.

Based solely on chart points that Joel Whitburn had in his books until he decided to exclude made for TV groups, Glee Cast would be the second biggest act in the history of the charts behind Elis and ahead of the Beatles

"Don't Stop Believing" was used on the Sopranos finale before Glee. Glee may have brought it longevity, but it wasn't the first platform to bring that song back into the public eye.

ah, interesting stuff. I definitely appreciate all those examples. I didn't mean to suggest that Glee was the FIRST high-profile media tie-in that DSB ever had, but I do believe it was the most impactful, especially in exposing the song to a younger generation (whereas The Sopranos audience, for example, probably was alive when DSB originally charted.) DSB was featured on Glee multiple times at the peak of the show's popularity and their cover became a Top 5 hit on its own.

EDIT: I may not be giving the Sopranos finale enough credit. according to Wikipedia, DSB was "the 72nd most downloaded song of 2008, and 84th most downloaded song of 2009" on the iTunes Store. the Sopranos finale aired in June '07, the Glee pilot aired in May '09. by the end of August '09, DSB had passed the 3 million mark in downloads.

but regardless of what may have helped DSB the most, these examples make it clear that having several high-profile media tie-in's throughout the 00's helped DSB reach the familiarity it has in 2015.

The Sopranos finale is definitely when the modern DSB craze really started. That was when it first soared up the charts on iTunes, and has been pretty much the most consistent 20th century selling song ever since.
