Get Excited! One Direction Begins Writing New AlbumOne Direction have officially started work on their follow-up to 2014's Four. After releasing their first promo photo since Zayn Malik left the group last month, the now foursome is soldiering one and beginning work on new music. Liam Payne revealed the news on Twitter. "1st day writing the album it's gunna be a great day!" he tweeted, later adding, "Huge day of writing so excited the team never stop! Wonder what tomorrow's writing will bring." In addition to the new photo, the guys also updated their bio to reflect their new music. "In April 2015 the band started working on their 5th studio album set to be released later in the year," the bio now states. In a statement released following Malik's departure from the band, 1D noted that new music was in the works. And Niall Horan later teased these writing sessions on social media in the days following the band's member shake-up. In an interview with The Sun, Styles noted the remaining members were looking forward to working on new music. "It's very exciting to be working on our fifth album," Styles said earlier this month. "It shows how incredible the fans have been. A huge thank you to them for everything they've done for us. All the love to them."

Hmmm...so they're just starting the writing and recording process now? Bummer, I was hoping (somewhat delusionally) that Album #5 would include at least some tracks with Zayn's vocals :( Guess this means we've already got everything we'll ever get from them as a 5-some.

And they are aiming to make something that can be played for generations to come. "The songs have come out a bit more chill because I think we want this to be quite a long-lasting album that you can listen to anytime," Payne said. "You like how Ed [Sheeran']s album, anytime you can thrown on an Ed song and it can always make sense. We're trying to do that."

The guys will be on with James Corden on the 14th. CBS 12:35AM. First time on TV as a 4 piece.
And last time they were on his UK show, James got Niall to show his bare ass on TV while he tattooed a picture of his own face on it.

They didn't write as much together as on FOUR but the songs are stronger and "Rockier" as Niall puts it. The first single will be out before the UK leg and they will perform it during that part of the tour.

This is soooo weird! It's 2015, why try so hard to look "straight"? Given that support of the gay community is essentially mainstream now, I almost feel like it would HELP One Direction if they DID have a gay group member. Sure as hell hasn't hurt Sam Smith, Frank Ocean, or (in the UK) Years & Years. Attitudes have changed a LOT even since 2012, so why try so hard to "act" straight if he's not? Maybe Louis really DID throw all of our gaydars off.... or he's bi!
