Louis Tomlinson Arrested After Paparazzi Scuffle at LAX

Louis Tomlinson was taken into police custody Friday night (March 3) after an altercation with a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport.

The 25-year-old One Direction member had just arrived at LAX with his girlfriend Eleanor Calder following a trip to Las

Vegas and were immediately surrounded by paparazzi at baggage claim. Tomlinson allegedly pulled one of the photographers by his legs, resulting in the man hitting his head and on the ground, TMZ reports.

The singer was placed under citizen arrest by airport security until police arrived. He was then taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department and charged with simple battery.

"The paparazzi provoked and caused the altercation that occurred with Louis at the airport this morning," Martin Singer, Tomlinson's lawyer, said in a statement provided to Billboard. "This is not the first or last time that a paparazzi has created an altercation with a celebrity. While the altercation was going on with the paparazzi, three other individuals were attacking his girlfriend during this incident and he came to her defense"

Tomlinson was released Saturday morning on $20,000 bail, according to an arrest report obtained by The Sun. However, sources tell Billboard that he was released without having to post bail. The singer is set to appear in court on March 29.

Billboard has reached out to Tomlinson’s representatives for comment.

Tomlinson currently has solo a hit with Steve Aoki. Their collaboration, "Just Hold On,” sits at No. 36 on the Pop Songs airplay chart (dated March 11).

Secret One Direction reunion could include new music

One Direction is secretly working on a plan to celebrate their 10th anniversary, Page Six can reveal — with ideas ranging from reuniting for a TV special to a new single.

However, a tour is ruled out, we’re told.

The now-defunct Brit boy band’s anniversary is coming up on July 23 and devoted followers have noticed that Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan have all refollowed Zayn Malik on Twitter, although Malik has not followed them back.

All five are now on different recording labels and have solo deals.

A source close to one of the singer’s management teams said, “There’s still a long way to go and a lot of hurdles. Obviously, at the moment anything they do would have to be done virtually.

“But there’s a lot of goodwill between them now and they want to make something happen.”

Styles, in particular, has remained great friends with director and producer Ben Winston, who helmed the Brit boy band’s 2013 movie “This Is Us.”

Styles has a huge solo career and recently hit the charts with his latest album “Fine Line,” while Tomlinson just released his album “Walls” and appeared as a judge on the UK’s “X Factor.” Payne, Horan and Malik have each released their own music.

“We’ve got a 10-year anniversary coming up so we’ve all been speaking together a lot over the last few weeks which has been really nice,” Payne, 26, told The Sun on Thursday. “There’s a number of different things that we are all working on to try and make happen and people are forwarding emails around.”

Malik, 27, quit One Direction in March 2015, citing “stress” after leaving their world tour. The rest of the members split that August, reassuring fans the break wouldn’t be permanent — although it ended up being that way.

As we reported, fans are interpreting the guys refollowing Malik as a sign that the time has come for a homecoming, causing the hashtag #OneDirectionReunion to trend on the social media platform.

“They all followed Zayn again holy s –t,” tweeted one hopeful.

“Zayn is no longer an ex-member on Google [search],” pointed out another.

Other hints that fans may be right to include that the former members have also refollowed the official One Direction Twitter account, all five of the group’s albums are also now back on Apple Music and the group’s former website has been reactivated.

Speaking about reunion plans, Tomlinson, 28, said in January: “I think it’ll happen at some point, we’d be stupid not to.”

Styles, 26, has also kept busy during the coronavirus pandemic by supporting the coronavirus fight with a new T-shirt — sales of which are going toward the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization. The singer revealed in late March that he got stuck in California after his plans to fly back to Europe for the final leg of his “Love on Tour” was canceled due to the coronavirus.

The source close to one of the boy’s management said: “They’ve watched how the Rolling Stones have managed to keep the group together as well as their solo careers through the decades.

“Each of the boys wants to somehow thank the fans for their ten years of loyalty. Despite each of their solo successes, each of them knows that the greatest thanks they can give to their fans is for them to do something together in tribute to where things began. Their relationships are very different now to how they used to be but individually they know they wouldn’t be where they are now without what the group achieved together.”

Another music source added: “I think what’s happening in the world right now has put a lot of their differences into perspective.”

When asked how he felt about the idea of a reunion on a Zoom call during the current pandemic, Styles told SiriusXM recently, “I don’t know if that’s the reunion we had in mind. I don’t know if that would be the way to do it.”

He joked: “I’ll have a quick whip-round.”
