Yeah I can see why people can dislike "Call Me Maybe" and "I Really Like You", and even "Good Time" (the former two are decent to me, the latter I never liked). This one reminds me of "Tonight I'm Getting Over You", as I loved that one and made me think of Carly as an artist that won't ride on one huge hit. That sadly flopped, but I'm a little more optimistic about this one.

In terms of the charts, IRLY was a flop, even if it did manage to get a week in the top 40. But in terms of how well known it is, both as a viral hit and just a song, it was not a flop. I think it was determined in the weekly chart thread that you can nor throw around "oh the general public knows it", but I think it is a song that a lot of people know, both of its existence and the lyric "I really really really like you". It also kept her name alive, and although it may have made a slight dent to her reputation, is keeping her relevancy, no matter how small, alive

This is #390 on iTunes after initially dropping down into the 800s after release. I'm 99% sure this will do better than IRLY - just not sure how much better.

Even though I Really Like You wasn't that big of flop, it's pretty known worldwide, i think RAWM should've been the first single. IRLY had lots of promo and if the promo was for RAWM which is so much better, it would've been bigger!
The only promo confirmed so far for this is at the Today Show on the album release day.. She should perform at the Teen Choice Awards.

Now this is a bona fide pop hit! That beautiful transition from bridge to chorus....that beat.

so how far in advance did her album leak? Pretty early, I think it leaked a couple of days before the June 24th release date in Japan. So it will have been out there for 2 full months before the US release. I don't really think it's gonna impact sales though, I expect medium to low sales sadly. Even Kiss only managed a handful of sales off the massive success of Call Me Maybe. |

IRLY was ok to me, but shouldn't have been the lead single. This, on the contrary... I just heard it by watching the video and I really really really really really like it  This has a feel-good vibe and makes me smile. As such, I don't think it'd have a high burn rate. Also, I think this fits her image nicely. It's not childish but cute, positive, and I dig that. We have enough sexualized, badass singers. Let's also have sweet ones :) Finally, I love the 80s influence including that sort of sax sound. I was trying to figure what song this reminded me of. Firstly The Way You Make Me Feel came to mind due to the bouncy beat... But then a better fitting song came to mind, with similar beat and sax: Harden my Heart.
