If this gets to #1 fast enough, is it possible they'd release a 2nd single before the album comes out? Doubt it. It will be nine weeks until Storyteller comes out.

I like this on first listen, but I think I have to listen to it more for me to love this. But great to hear new Carrie music and something different from the last two lead singles (from studio albums, so not counting SITW) :)

It seems some of the Carrie fan base pits her against ANY other female artist. It used to be Carrie vs. Taylor and Miranda. And now, it's back, stupidly enough. Every female artist's fan base is equally as guilty of this. Every single one. Really? I don't remember hearing of the Dolly vs Loretta or Shania vs Faith or Reba vs Trisha or Pam vs Lorrie or Martina vs Wynonna fights. Was it Patsy Cline vs Brenda Lee in the very old days or Lynn Anderson vs Tanya Tucker? Is there a Jana Kramer vs Maddie and Tae I don't know about?

That's proof that the internet brings out the worst in fan bases than never transpired before everyone could get connected so easy. Before that the closest thing to a "fan war" was drunk fans at a multi artist festival fighting over who they liked best in the line up. Sometimes I wish things could go back before everything became Automatic (sorry couldn't resist that one).

It appears this got hourly treatment on iHeartMedia stations yesterday (even though it debuted on Thursday afternoon) because 956 spins and over 7.6 million in audience gained is a massive amount of spins and audience in a once day update. It won't be a fluffy update come next Friday/Saturday but oh well.
Carrie's #33 on the MB rolling chart and even though I'm assuming her numbers are toned downed tomorrow, I can still see her debuting in the MB top 30. That means of course that she'll debut considerably higher on Billboard Airplay since you only need total audience on that chart.
Whoa, and Carrie's #2 on the iTunes all-genre chart. Talk about a splashy debut, lol.

Hopefully she can at least hold her positions next week! She'll obviously have weak updates next Thursday and Friday, but hopefully not so weak that she slips on the charts. Nevertheless, I'm ecstatic to see another massive debut for her! Five albums in and she's still hot as ever!

The negative updates would come next Friday/Saturday since the actual airplay was on a Thursday/Friday. Carrie gained 1558 spins and over 11.0 million in audience, in two days; she'll have a negative update come this time next week. It's still a very impressive late afternoon Thursday debut, lol.

This is off to a great start sales-wise. #2 on iTunes after a good streak at #1, considering the largeness of the songs at the top of the chart.

Apparentley people are saying this is very similar to Miranda Lambert's Automatic in the verses and that it's also similar to Lee Brice Drinking Class. I'm not seeing it myself.

MY COUNTRY KWEEN IS BACK!!!!!!! YAYAYAY!!!!
I like this song, I do hear the Miranda Lambert comparison. I feel like it's in the middle of all of her singles based on first listen, but I'm sure this will grow on me!!! I'm so excited that the new era is upon us!!! <3

I'm not hearing the similarities in sound to Miranda Lambert. Carrie's 'twang' is modest at best, and the voice is clearly Carrie. For me, there needs to be more than the use of 'smoke' and 'drink' , to say that the song is similar to a Miranda song. The context Is more important than the similarity of the words used. On another note it's frustrating to read about, Smoke Break, promoting drinking and smoking. Smoke Break is being used as a metaphor. Each character states that they don't smoke, they don't drink, but on occasion they need a break from the work grind,. Smoke break is just an expression. My smoke break, includes 5 wonderful chocolate covered M'n M peanuts. Savoured real slow , until the sweet hard coating and rich chocolate melt in my mouth to uncover a crunchy peanut.

I quite like this. Would've preferred something with a little more punch though, especially given the first two singles from her last album ("Good Girl"/"Blown Away"). Quite a safe song, hoping the second single will be better as I can't see myself playing this often.
Also, near the end when she sings "When the day is long" it sounds like "When the dick is long" and I can't hear it as anything else now lol.

It did get the saturation airplay treatment yesterday from IHeartRadio stations according to the Carriefans board moderator which explains that abnormally latge gain in spins on a Friday.

Yeah it definitely did; over 900 spins gained in one day is hourly treatment all the way. The leaders for "Smoke Break" on All Access confirm it.

If this gets to #1 fast enough, is it possible they'd release a 2nd single before the album comes out? The album is coming out in 9 weeks. I like this song a lot, but there is absolutely no way it goes 1 and another single is out that quick. Nothing goes to the top that fast anymore not even Luke Bryan.

Even if it went #1 that quick, which samsager3 is right, her team would never rush out a second single that quick. I'm sure we may have 1 or 2 promo singles in the few weeks before the album is released though.

NINE weeks to #1? Gotta go back several years when such chart runs were much more plentiful.
Anything under 12 weeks is considered superstar level, but only for the males sadly. I wasn't too thrilled about the IHeart nonsense, since a debut in the upper thirties a was a mortal lock.

The last time I remember a song getting to #1 in less than nine weeks was when Kenny did it twice in 2007 with "Never Wanted Nothing More" and "Don't Blink" (both took 8 weeks to reach #1).
That was of course the year that "More Than A Memory" debuted at #1 on Billboard (#4 on MB).

I Went on billboard .com and it shows it in the archives. If it wasn't for the I heart deal and the chart performance was plentifull like it used to be, it could pull a live like you were dying and head to no.1 in 7 weeks. :(

If you need a first-class lesson in how biased the charts are in BLATANTLY favoring the males over the females, just follow the rise up the charts of the current singles by Carrie, Tim, Blake, Luke and Jason between now and Halloween, which is 10 weeks from yesterday.
Prepare to be educated and disgusted simultaneously.

"Smoke Break" debuts at #32 on MB this week.Carrie fans get to have another small celebration tonight. The final update tonight placed Carrie ahead of Kelsea for the #31 slot. I was actually surprised that Carrie didn't jump Kelsea in the morning update since "Smoke Break" has 3.4 million more in audience than "Dibs" and even though MB goes by a points system, I thought that should have been enough to leap Kelsea and alas, it was.

It was very close for that #31 slot, as Carrie edged Kelsea by 10 points while moving to within 24 points of Tim McGraw.

She moved up five spots from where Carrie was yesterday morning (#33) on the rolling chart. Marv was talking about where she landed on the actual chart position this week (which was finalized last night), which will be reflected this evening in Country Aircheck. Carrie was never really at #33 since "Kick The Dust Up" had to be sent recurrent yesterday afternoon and it turns out that Carrie had jumped Kelsea anyway.

Every time I get to the "I don't smoke" part of the chorus, my brain wants the next line to be "but sometimes I need a long toke."
