AWESOME to see Like a Cowboy nominated for song of the year.
Love seeing Stapleton getting love too.

Confused by the I Don't Dance and American Kids nominations... Weren't they nominated last year? Not surprised by the "American Kids" nomination at all; it was released in the last week of June last year just when the eligibility period was ending for 2014 nominations. I fully expected it to get nominated this year and deservedly so. As for "I Don't Dance" getting nominated, I would've like to have seen a different song take its place. But how is it even eligible if it was nominated at last year's show? Even if for a different category? I'm confused...

Even in a slow year, Miranda was still able to get 4 nominations, more than any female... LOL
Happy for Kacey's 3 noms... rooting for her in Album of the Year!

But how is it even eligible if it was nominated at last year's show? Even if for a different category? I'm confused... This isn't the first time this has happened in the CMA's history ("Always On My Mind" won song two years in a row and Single one of those years), but I just can't think of a good explanation as to why "I Don't Dance" made it into this year's round of voting. I mean, this song was released in February of 2014...once the CMA's air it'll be almost two full years since that song was released to radio. It's also just hitting me that Tim McGraw got no love this year which is a little disappointing considering his stellar album and turn at radio over this past year; also surprised by the lack of nominations for Keith Urban. I went in fully expecting Zac Brown Band to get nods in Album/Single at least and expecting the Vocal Group category to be competitive between them and LBT; now thinking LBT will sweep Group and possibly Single/Song categories now.

Props to Miranda, I don't know how it happens, but dayum... she's good! I'm just shocked she didn't get nominated in Song/Single too.
My overall thoughts:
Entertainer of the Year: I honestly don't know. I think it's between Garth, Luke, and Miranda. Honestly can't say which one at this point, but I wouldn't be mad if any of them won. The only one I'd rather not see win is Eric Church, I'm just not a fan.
Male Vocalist of the Year: PLEASE give this to Dierks... the guy SO deserves it! Pretty sure Eric will be getting it this year, judging by his slew of nominations.
Female Vocalist of the Year: I was confident going into nominations that Carrie would win, and I still think she has a strong shot. But at this point, with FOUR nominations, the most of the females, it's Miranda's to lose... still. God PLEASE give this to Carrie, PLEASE!!!
Vocal Duo of the Year: FGL.
Vocal Group of the Year: LBT.
Album of the Year: Rooting for Kacey, I think it's hers to lose.
Single of the Year: "Girl Crush".
Song of the Year: "Girl Crush".
Video of the Year: OF COURSE Carrie would be nominated against Miranda and Kacey here... Would LOVE to see "Something in the Water" win, and I don't think it's out of the question, but I would not be shocked at all to see Miranda, Kacey, or LBT take it. Not sure how it'll go, a true toss-up.
Overall I'm glad to see a little more diversity in the nominations. There is no single act with an absurd amount of nominations. Just bummed as a Carrie fan that she'll probably walk away empty-handed, again, after a year in which she had the biggest hit of any female, and released some of her most critically acclaimed music to date. There's still hope, but the light seems to have faded quite a bit with today's announcement. My fingers are still crossed, and I'm still very much looking forward to the show! Can't wait to see what Carrie and Brad have planned this year!

Yeah there is a history of that with the CMAs, but it's embarrassing regardless. Can you imagine the Oscars allowing American Sniper to get in Best Picture again this year, or the Grammys nominating "Shake It Off" again this year? It wouldn't happen. I don't know what that loophole in the CMA voting process is, or why it hasn't been fixed. It should make us question why we put any stock in these awards.

SITW deserves Song and Single of the Year nominations.
Lmao at Miranda still got many nods in a slow year. I bet she will win Female again.
Love that Kacey got some love.
Lol @ no Jason Aldean in Entertainer and Male nominations

Looking at the nomination spread, Miranda could very well walk away with zero wins. There is stiff competition in pretty much all of the categories aside from Single/Song. It'll be a very interesting show!

It'll be a very interesting show! You think so? I think she has her 6th FVOTY win in the bag. The nearest competition would be Kelsea (narrative: newbie who will be the next HUGE female), but I don't think K's label has enough money and clout to actually pull off a win. The nom is sufficient acknowledgement.

The nearest competition would be Kelsea (narrative: newbie who will be the next HUGE female), but I don't think K's label has enough money and clout to actually pull off a win. The nom is sufficient acknowledgement. I definitely think Miranda's biggest competition is still Carrie, followed by Kacey and Kelsea. I'm definitely predicting Miranda to win, but I genuinely think it's still a close fight between her and Carrie. If Miranda wins anything, it'll be Female Vocalist. But all the categories she's nominated in, in my opinion are VERY tight... So I don't think anything is certain at this point. If Carrie didn't score any nomination but Female Vocalist, I'd think otherwise. But scoring Video of the Year in addition to Female Vocalist tells me that she at least has some voting clout behind her. Kelsea was a shoe-in for both of her nominations, so her nominations don't say much. In other words, if she appeared in Song/Single/Video, then I'd say she has a shot at Female Vocalist, but I don't think she has a chance at winner over Carrie or Miranda... It just didn't take much clout to get Kelsea into the two categories she received nominations in.

"Dibs" is doing quite well: #29 on MB after 7 weeks. I definitely agree Kelsea is the "next big female", but I see Carrie as a more significant threat to Miranda's reign of terror.

Surprised Reba didnt get a Female nod. She has a number one album. Where's Tim, i thought atleast he would have had Vocal Event for "Diamond Rings & Old Barstools" with Clare Dunn. Why wasnt Carrie and Jason nominated for Entertainer. Jason is selling out concerts like Crazy, And he has 3 number ones in 2 yrs span. Carrie has 2 number ones this yr and "Smoke Break" is the best premiered single this year. The last time i checked Thomas Rhett came out in 2012. So to me that ain't new i wouldve put A Thosand Horses in his place. They have a number one single and a top 5 album."I Dont Dance" came out in February of last year which is a year and a half ago. "Something In The Water" Should be in his spot. "Little Wagon's" Video is not better than "Crushin It". Why did Brad get snubbed? No Sam Hunt for Male or Album why? I'M SO EXCITED THAT MADDIE & TAE GOT 3 NODS AND KELSEA GOT 2. U GO GIRLS

I'm just VERY cynical when it comes to Carrie winning any CMA award again, ever. I would love to be wrong, but her combo blocs of Sony + CAA + AEG Live are not the powerful ones. If those don't change, she needs sales that are too big to be ignored + a compelling narrative. For the new album, they seem to be going for the-relatable-A-lister-who-is-staying-true-to-country-and-making-a-critically-acclaimed-comeback. Without those elements coming to fruition, I don't expect the tide to suddenly change and put her in contention of winning again.
Just now discovering how much I like Dierks' and Chris Stapleton's albums so I'm glad they got noms. I love Cam's Burning House so I hope it gets recognized next year. I'm all for Girl Crush winning Song and Single.
(If it's not obvious from my other posts all over the board and my social media accounts, I'm a Carrie diehard. I've just been burned way too many times and any hope has died and been replaced with cynicism.)

She does have some voting clout to work with. I mean, I think "Something in the Water" is Carrie's first solo song to be nominated in any combo of Single/Song/Video since what, maybe "Before He Cheats"? Was "Blown Away" even nominated for any of those? I know the album was... So there's always the glimmer of hope that things can change, and things are starting to seem like they are changing. Miranda was still the most nominated female, but she didn't receive 6+ like in recent years... So, I don't know, I do think Carrie has a shot at winning Female Vocalist of the Year, but I certainly wouldn't bet money on it...

Well yeah, Carrie has had some incredible years and has never gotten in EOTY at the CMAs, and has lost Female to Miranda despite having a bigger year. There is for sure reason to doubt she will win again, at least as long as Miranda is relevant. By all accounts, Carrie should be FVOTY for this year. She had two big hits, whereas Miranda didn't have a hit did she? Carrie sold more albums, too. Carrie then adds in things like the RNR Hall of Fame, her work for the NFL, co-hosting the CMAs, etc. Those are examples of where she does things that take country music to a wider audience. Miranda likely has the edge in touring; not sure how big her touring has been, but that is the only area where she'd be ahead of Carrie.

Can we just talk about how cool it is that the CMAs seems to have at least realized that the women obviously make better music videos than the men? Literally all of the nominees are female-led songs, lol. Also surprised that Chris Stapleton got in there over Jason Aldean for Male Vocalist. I wonder how pissed Aldean is going to be, but he'll probably let us know soon enough. I hope "Girl Crush" cleans up with Single and Song, though it's nice to see "Like a Cowboy" also nominated. The rest of them are a bit disappointing though, especially seeing "American Kids," "I Don't Dance," and "Like a Wrecking" ball all getting nods. Bleh. Would like to see Carrie take Female Vocalist. Even though Miranda's still the most nominated female, I think it could be pretty close for once. They probably just threw Miranda in EOTY because they felt like they needed a female and obviously Carrie took a bit of an off year from doing things, despite the success of her GH singles. ETA: Oh and Pageant Material or bust for Album!

How cool would this be considering the Salad-gate scandal:
Entertainer: Miranda Female Vocalist: Carrie Duo: Maddie & Tae New Artist: Kelsea Album: Kacey Single: "GIRL Crush" Song: "GIRL Crush" Video: "GIRL in a Country Song"
Now that would be a CMA winner's field that I could get completely behind!

Interesting to see that, apart from Thomas Rhett (who isn't even a new artist lol), all artists up for Best New Artist are multiple-nominees this year.
Also, Shane McAnally is the most nominated non-recording artist... 4 nominations this year (2 for writing and 2 as a producer)

I'm ashamed to say I didn't really know of Chris Stapleton before this morning. Since the nominations were announced, I've been watching his videos on Youtube at work... NO WONDER he's nominated, he's easily one of the best male vocalists country music has ever had! This guy can SAAANGGG!!! And his songs are incredible, too. How did I not know of him!?

Love that Stapleton got some nominations but I'm not really surprised. The industry absolutely loves him and it was hard to ignore the praise his album received. Mercury/UMG did an outstanding job of promoting Chris in 2015.

Pleasantly surprised to see Chris Stapleton pick up a Male Vocalist nod. I fully expected Traveller to get an Album of the Year nomination, but MV is pretty much the toughest category to score a nomination in (other than Entertainer). I mean, Stapleton beat out huge A-listers like Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, and Jason Aldean, and he also got in over the white hot Sam Hunt. So yeah, I am quite surprised there, even when you consider the acclaim that Stapleton has. It's just really disappointing that so many people don't know about artists like Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves, Jason Isbell, Ashley Monroe, etc. We're now seeing Stapleton and Isbell release singles to AAA radio because "country" radio won't play them :( Don't get me wrong -- I'm glad that there are some stations that have decided to support those artists and their music -- but it really is a huge shame that they can't get any airplay on country radio. Confused by the I Don't Dance and American Kids nominations... Weren't they nominated last year? "American Kids" was not, but "I Don't Dance" was nominated in Song last year. Perhaps it will be taken out as a nominee? How does the CMAs not catch stuff like that? This isn't the first time this has happened, folks, nor will it be the last. I'm not exactly sure how it works but there are cases where a song can be nominated for Song of the Year one year, and then for Single of the Year the next year. Apparently everybody but me has a short memory span (I'm teasing, but here's what I'm talking about -- from just 2-3 years ago): 46th CMA Awards -- Single of the Year winner was "Pontoon" by Little Big Town ( link) 47th CMA Awards...oh!! Look what song was nominated for Song of the Year ( link) ** Anyway, probably the biggest surprise for me is the lack of an album nomination for Sam Hunt's Montevallo (I'm shocked that Kenny got in there). Sam has continually dominated the sales charts, whereas Kenny's album hasn't gone Gold yet, and Jason doesn't have near the momentum that Sam has. It's true that Old Boots, New Dirt has out-sold Montevallo (just over 1 mil for Jason, just over 700k for Sam), but in the end Sam will probably out-sell Jason. Really the only reason that Jason's has sold more so far is because he's a bigger name, and so his first week sales are really the difference between his total sales and Sam's total sales. I'm also surprised (but in a good way) that Dierks was able to pull off a MV nomination. Again...look at who was left out (Keith, Tim, Jason, etc.) Lots of big names compete for those nominations and I wasn't thinking Dierks would be able to get in, but I'm really glad he did. Also, I'm once again surprised that Tim McGraw didn't get any nominations. Seems like this has been the case the last few years. I don't know if it's that Big Machine doesn't push very hard (this seems unlikely) or if he just doesn't have all the right "connections"? He's been on a roll and has really reignited his career, and yet...nothing for "Shotgun Rider" and nothing for "Diamond Rings & Old Barstools". I thought "Diamond Rings & Old Basrtools" would have for sure gotten a nomination in the Musical Event category, and I thought "Shotgun Rider" would have been nominated for Single or maybe Song. Finally, I also expected ZBB to pick up a nomination (either Single or Song) for "Homegrown", so I'm surprised there as well.

Chris Stapleton. <3 Don't care about anything else at the moment. Let me just rejoice in all of his nominations. Still rejoicing, but let me add some other thoughts, now that I've typed out all of the nominations in the OP and closely saw what was put in each category. -Stapleton's breakthrough is beyond deserving. carrieidol1 I'm glad you've gotten a chance to check out some videos of him. He's an absolute star, and the soul he puts into his music is mesmerizing. That, and his voice is unlike anything I've ever heard, and in the best way. He's a genius with a pen, paper, and guitar. If you have a chance, go listen to "Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore". He wrote it by himself and it is, unquestionably, one of the most amazing songs I've heard in my life. - .indulgecountry pointed it out before, but I'll reiterate it: amazing to see that the Music Video nominations, an entire category that is open to both genders, are all female/female-led. Progressin' with those baby steps. It's moving. -I guess you can throw me in the "Why is Miranda Lambert up for Entertainer?" camp. Not that I don't think she deserves an Entertainer trophy because she's most certainly earned it throughout her career, but these past twelve months have been really...sloppy in terms of how the rest of her Platinum era was carried out. "Automatic" and "Somethin' Bad" did what they needed to do -- go the album off to a racing start, earned Grammy nominations, and the album itself won the three big wins that it could -- CMA, ACM, and Grammy. Then came the "Little Red Wagon"/"Smokin' and Drinkin'" 'which-one-was-getting-released?' ordeal, along with a bit of a plummet in hype after that bomb of an EOTY loss at the ACMs in April. Honestly, I expected Little Big Town to get an Entertainer of the Year nomination, and it would've made more sense to me than a Miranda Lambert one. Oh, well. Not mad about it at all, and I'm happy for her! -My personal bias against "American Kids" has me cringing at it occupying both a Single and a Song spot, but we all knew it would happen. -"The song that represented us in one of only four categories at the Grammys? Let's ignore it!" - CMA logic. Not that I really enjoy playing this card, because it has become overbearingly petty and dried out over these past eight years, but the omission of "Something in the Water" is identical to the CMAs' omission of "Blown Away". -The "I Don't Dance" situation is parallel to the "Pontoon" situation a couple of years ago, both of which were/are confusing, frustrating, and silly. Again, a nomination slot that could've gone to the genre's Grammy-winning representative from this past winter. -Thrilled with the "Girl Crush" love, and I'm glad the "Biscuits" video got a nomination. Kind of surprised that Brad Paisley's "Crushin' It" didn't get nominated there, because that video made a splash and was a really fun one to watch. - Jekyll + Hyde, along with "Homegrown" and "Loving You Easy", got shut out. Not something I expected, but also not something I'm surprised about because of how musically-expansive the album is. -Eric Church for Entertainer. Let's all make t-shirts. Overall, a lot of great nominations this year.
