Could Adele do 2 weeks over a million? Opening week is a given I'd say, but with Black Friday at the start of week 2, I think she might be able to pull it off

1.5 million is much more realistic. I can't at people thinking she is going to do well over 2 million albums in a single week. Even 1.5 million is a stretch. I think she will be slightly higher than Taylor's 1989 first week.

I think she will be slightly higher than Taylor's 1989 first week. I don't know if she'll do it or not and would be hesitant to speak in such definite terms, but this is the one time where it's actually not ridiculous or unrealistic for people to think, wonder, or hope that she could. She's selling over 1 million of the single in one week, something I never thought I would see happen and blowing the previous record out of the water almost twofold. The preorders may boost her beyond the norm, too - supposedly she had 200k after the first day, right? So she'll probably be going into her debut week with 300k to 400k sales already in the bag, and I have a feeling I might be lowballing that estimate. The Adele hype is overwhelming right now and it's clear her team is going to shoot for the moon with having this CD everywhere. My own guess (again, not in definite terms b/c I just don't know how to gauge the immensity of all of this) is that she'll be closer to the 1.7 million end of HITS' prediction than the 1.5 million end. I'd put her in the ballpark of Eminem more than Britney or Taylor. On a side note I think this will be the first time this year that I won't have to hunt through Target's entire music section to find a copy of the CD I want.

Adele's '25' Is a Lock to Sell 1 Million in Its First Week -- How About 2?
By Ed Christman and Gail Mitchell | October 29, 2015 10:00 AM EDT
"F--ing Adele."
So cracked a member of Justin Bieber's team after "Hello," the 27-year-old British singer's first new song since 2012, premiered Oct. 23, siphoning all attention in its wake and pushing aside highly touted same-day releases -- like Bieber's own "Sorry," the second single from his forthcoming album.
There's reason for competitors to worry. With "Hello" poised to vault over The Weeknd's "The Hills" and Drake's "Hotline Bling" for the No. 1 spot on the Nov. 14 Billboard Hot 100, Adele has silenced any doubts about her relevance after a long absence. But one significant question remains: Can she score a million-selling first week with her new studio album, 25?
'Hello' On Track to Become U.K.'s Fastest-Selling Single of 2015
Arriving Nov. 20, Adele's third release on XL Recordings/Columbia is on track to reach that goal, a threshold last crossed by Taylor Swift a year ago, when 1989 moved 1.29 million units, according to Nielsen Music, to debut atop the Billboard 200 on Nov. 15, 2014. But where Swift broke records -- among them, May's "Bad Blood" video notching a then-astounding 20.1 million views in its first 24 hours on Vevo -- Adele has shattered them. In the two days after the power ballad's debut, the accompanying clip to "Hello" was streamed, on average, more than 1 million times per hour. By the end of its first week on the platform, it had passed 100 million global views.
On the digital sales side, the track is also on course for a record performance, surpassing the 636,000-download bow of Flo Rida's 2009 hit "Right Round," as sources indicate "Hello" will sell some 900,000 its first week.
With all that in mind, industry projections for 25's first-week sales range between 1.3 and 1.8 million, which means it could claim another title: the biggest debut week for a female in the Nielsen era (1991 to the present), beating previous record-holder Britney Spears, whose Oops!... I Did It Again bowed with 1.32 million in May 2000.
Adele's 'Hello' Has Biggest YouTube Debut of Any Video This Year
In the case of Adele, Alliance Entertainment senior vp Laura Provenzano credits a seamless transition from 2011's 21 (11.2 million sold) to "Hello." "She picks up right where she left off," says Provenzano, noting that a key factor in Adele's sales potency is her strength in physical: Digital downloads comprised just 28 percent of 21's U.S. sales. Adds another music merchandiser: "Will Adele hit 1 million? A more realistic question is will it hit 2 million?" (The biggest week of the Nielsen era remains 'N Sync's 2000 LP No Strings Attached with 2.4 million.)
Still, there are potential hurdles. Some merchandisers believe the label is three weeks behind in the marketing cycle for a proper album setup. "It's going to be tight to get everything in place," says one source.
But on the marketing front, Adele's team has deployed a shrewd mix of old-school and current-cool initiatives. On Oct. 18, a 30-second ad featuring "Hello" aired during The X Factor U.K. (estimated cost: $115,000). Four days later, the singer launched a radio blitz. Still to come: Saturday Night Live on Nov. 21, a BBC 1 special the night before and a full-court press of U.S. TV.
Adele's 'Hello' Aiming for Record U.S. Digital Sales Week
And what of exclusivity? Again, 25's stewards, including manager Jonathan Dickins, XL owner Richard Russell and Columbia Records chairman Rob Stringer, seems focused on the tried and true: Big-box retailer Target has a three-song exclusive, reassuring physical merchants who feared iTunes would get an exclusive sales window similar to the one they enjoyed on Beyoncé's last project, also for Columbia. Notes a label sales executive: "Target wouldn't even carry the Adele record initially if Sony gave Apple an exclusive." (Representatives for Sony and Adele declined comment.)
As for Spotify, a Sony insider says a decision hasn't yet been made on streaming services, which prompts another question: Will the label try to restrict 25 from streaming on the ad-supported tiers of Spotify and other digital services to boost sales? And if so, will Spotify capitulate this time, after refusing to stream Swift's 1989 if it wasn't available on both the subscription and "freemium" tiers? According to Spotify, "Hello" is likely to notch a record number of worldwide first-week streams, beating Bieber's 30 million-plus for "What Do You Mean?" Some might say this is a battle that's just beginning, while others would insist Adele has already won.
Additional reporting by Glenn Peoples.

I don't want to get too excited about Adele's numbers beforehand. I would love to see her blow up and sell 2 million in a week, but for now I will say she will land in the range of BTW to 1989. Then, do almost the same the next week with Black Friday. So, over two million in two weeks. Again, I go conservative so I am not disappointed

^ Yes, does anyone know offhand the record for best second-week sales? At least she'll beat that!

Didn't someone sell a million in a second week before? I swear I read it somewhere, it may have been on here, but it was a while ago.

I swear BSB had a great second week one time too. Or maybe I am just thinking of them having a great Black Friday week and it wasn't technically their second week.

How much was N Sync's second and third weeks? Imagine if Adele's second week wasn't Black Friday, what the drop could be.

Another quick note. Not all albums to hit s million did so in their debut week. Beatles 1 is an example.

More fun from Hurricane Adele
Adele's 'Hello' Is Second-Fastest Video to Hit 100 Million YouTube Views Ever News /
By Joe Lynch | October 29, 2015 3:16 PM EDT
Adele's smash hit comeback single "Hello" just keeps getting bigger.
In just five days, "Hello" has crossed 100 million views on YouTube, "a milestone it takes most major music videos months to achieve," according to a statement from YouTube.
"Hello" reached the 100 million mark faster than any other song in 2015. In fact, it reached the 100 million mark faster than every other video in history with one exception -- Psy's "Gentleman," which reached 100 million YouTube views in just four days in 2013.
This achievement comes the same day that Billboard revealed "Hello" is set to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 next week.
Adele's '25' A Lock for 1 Million First-Week Sales, But What About 2 Million?
As for its parent album, 25 is a lock to sell 1 million in its first week after dropping Nov. 20. As detailed in Billboard's current issue, industry projections put first-week sales for 25 anywhere between 1.3 million and 1.8 million, which means she'll likely best Taylor Swift's 1.29 million first-week sales for 1989 last year. Additionally, Adele could take the crown for biggest debut week for a female in the Nielsen era (1991-present) -- currently, Britney Spears' Oops!...I Did It Again holds that record with 1.32 million sold in May 2000.

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=298261Thursday, October 29, 2015 BOOM: ADELE LOOKS AT 2MSuperstar Scores 250k+ Preorders in Five Days; Industry handicappers now believe Queen of Pop Adele could see a debut in the neighborhood of 2m for her new full-length, 25 (due 11/20 on XL/Columbia). The set has scored 250k+ in preorders across all vendors in its first five days and remains parked atop the iTunes album chart around the globe (85 countries made it #1 as soon as the preorder phase began on Friday). Can it hit 300k before the week is out? Single “Hello,” also released last Friday, now looks certain to move 1m+ in its first week—which would give it the second-biggest first week in the modern era (behind Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind” in 1997, which sold 3.4m first week) and the biggest of the digital era. It flew to #1 at iTunes in 77 countries upon release. “Hello” broke the all-time add record according to Mediabase with 347 adds across all formats. Views for the stylish, black-and-white video were off the chart, as Adele quickly racked up north of 100m on YouTube and getting a record-smashing 27m Vevo views in 24 hours. It instantly became the #1 song at Shazam. Naturally, it scored the the #1 spot on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart. "Hello" also set the single-day U.S. streaming record on Saturday with a whopping 2.3m total streams. The previous record-holder was “Drag Me Down” by Columbia labelmate One Direction, with 1.8m U.S. in its first day. Adele will have a number of big TV looks around her release, with SNL on 11/21, a Radio City Music Hall special taping on 11/17 for her NBC prime time special and Fallon and Today appearances TBA. Will all this add up to a double-platinum chart bow? Hard to say for sure—but so far the indicators are mighty strong

The gap between 1.5 and 2m is HUGE, it's not like one or two promo appearances can make that difference. Not really sure about 2.. 1.5 seems likely though.

I think Adele will do 2-2.5 million first week and 1-1.5 million second week and 500k+ for weeks 3 4 and 5. Perhaps even another week at 1 million the week before Christmas (which falls on a Friday this year). I think she'll be able to sell 4.5-5 million in the US by Christmas.
Wouldn't be surprised if she completely outdid my expectations though (as she keeps doing).

at people thinking this will do less than 1.5 million first week. She's already at 250k in pre-orders and will probably do 500k by the release date.

Adele has exceeded expectations so far with "Hello," I just wouldn't rule out any possibility with her at this point. It was needed for her to have a great opening well-received single, which she has done now. The fact that one million is seen as the absolute floor for the debut week of 25 is telling. Predictions will adjust between now and November 20th, and with any big release of course there will be a large margin of error. Having said that, and given the fact Adele herself has only done a handful of radio interviews for the promo, I think predictions will likely trend up. If the first live performance of this song is killer I think all bets could be off and she has a legit shot at the all-time record. It's crazy she has done this well with no TV appearance.

Just because she is doing all these pre-orders, how does that equal millions more sold? who the hell do you think is pre-ordering the album?? the people who would be buying it first day/week LOL. Everyone is just up in arms right now and things are exciting and fun and fresh but let's just see what happens. I would LOVE for her to sell that and break all these records, but I just don't think it is as sure of a shot as some think. These publications are just spewing numbers to drive clicks and get people to their sites. We've seen this time and time again when Billboard or anyone else says something early on and then it isn't exactly the same as we get closer.

Were you not one of the people screaming about Ed Sheeran not hitting 300K+ based off of pre-orders and hype? Even when the estimates were putting him at the range he actually did you were so adamant that he was doing more. You clicked the articles, you believed the hype, and you were disappointed. Let others live out that story if it is to happen with Adele.

They should just move the album release forward to next friday. There really is no point in waiting with the hype as strong as it is right now. Wouldn't want people to get sick of "Hello" before the album is released.
