Can't even believe this is already bulletless at Pop. Still feels brand new!
ETA: Just read the chat above this. So let me clarify that my only point here is its lack of burnout rate considering how high the song has already soared. I did think it would hold on to #1 without a challenge until mid/late January though.

It is already in its 7th Week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, so even if its the last week 7 weeks is great. I bet it stays at #1 for at least an 8th week and then who knows. Any artist would be ecstatic to have one of their songs at #1 for this long.

I guess Rhythmic Radio does not get as involved in Christmas songs like other formats. It will be interesting to see what happens after Dec 25!

Generally, Christmas music as a major thing on radio is more exclusively an AC thing (not to say the other formats don't play Christmas music, it's just much less of a thing).
As for today's pop update, IDK.

I'm not saying it hasn't done amazing things overall and on other charts. And exactly because of that, I'm just saying the "CHR" radio component has been comparatively less stellar, in the context of other no. 1 songs. (This IS a board about CHR performance, right? If that's wrong, someone please correct me).
One factor that plays against longevity on the charts for global artists is that the record label has to release songs on the fastest schedule necessary to accommodate all major global markets. If they need to release a second single pretty soon in the UK, say, because there is no such thing as longevity on their charts, they have to release on the same schedule in the US and elsewhere, with vevo video releases, etc. It's all synchronized...

How has this not done amazing up against other past num.1's at CHR. Wasn't it just about up to 19,000 spins in a week? It's on every format too so I can't imagine it staying at the Top for to to long. It kind of reminds me of Whitney's "IWALY". So many people bought it when it first came out and radio jumped on it so quickly that it couldn't stay at num.1 on CHR for as long as some other songs.

Except it's done amazingly well at CHR. You can't tell me 4 weeks at number one isn't amazing. Who cares if it didn't get 17 weeks at number one? It was still a giant hit everywhere, including CHR/Pop. The only hits to spend longer than 4 weeks at number one this year are: "Blank Space". a song by the year's biggest CHR darling, "Uptown Funk", an anomaly no matter how you put it and the single biggest hit of the year, and "Bad Blood", again fueled by the power of TSwift (the biggest name in pop music this year) and there was a remix to help this one out. "Hello" is tied for the 4th biggest hit of the year on CHR and yet it "underperformed". Your favs could only hope to have this be their "underperforming" single. :'(

Year end countdowns, maybe? "The Hills" also gained 91 spins today, "Renegades" gained 82 and "Drag Me Down" gained 2. Losses also really slowed for "What Do You Mean" (-19), "Wildest Dreams" (-30) and "Stitches" (-22).

How many songs have spend 10 or more weeks at #1? I doubt it has been that many.
4 weeks @ #1 and a foreseeable 20 weeks overall on the chart is nothing short of successful. "Hello"'s run is certainly no failure or "underperformance" on CHR or any chart. I feel people hold some artists at too high of a pedestal. Anything that is just successful is considered an "underperformance."

No matter how you look at it, Adele's Hello is a smash and her next single When We Were Young will be one too!

I think all the hype over this breaking records left and right made it felt like it would be #1 forever or at least more than 3-4 weeks at Pop but Radio seems to be obsessed with Justin Bieber this time around.

I wonder how long this will stay at #1 and if Sorry or When We Were Young will overtake it

If any song or songs replace this at #1 it will not be long before When We Were Young gets to #1. Taylor Swift unleashes her video for Out of the Woods on New Year's Eve and I bet that causes that song to soar. Adele will be #1 again with WWWY even if Hello falls out of #1.

Taylor's era is really winding down. I don't expect "Out Of the Woods" to threaten #1 at all. It's all about Adele vs. Justin Bieber- and there's enough space for both to shine.

Well if WWWY isn't on streaming I don't think it will be a threat to #1 either. I mean, sure it might of course, but it's kinda silly how everyone just expects anything Adele releases to hit #1. But I think without Spotify, I think Love Yourself will be the bigger hit.

While the song has grown on me and think it's totally fine esp. as a first single, it def. has a fast burn out rate. There's just no way this has many weeks left at #1 as it peaked on radio crazy quickly. I know AC will give it a boost but even w/ that, it's most def. looking (as much as I'm not a fan or him at all or the song) that Bieber/Love Yourself is the next #1 followed by Adele herself w/ WWWY. Wouldnt be surprised if those two songs flip flop multiple weeks at #1. Heard WWWY on the radio yesterday and, sorry, am not feeling it at all. I know most love it but I find it very Celine Dion/sedating and nothing special. Reeally woulda loved a more upbeat song for single #2. Unfortunately, from what I heard on the album even the 'upbeat' songs don't come close to RITD :/. I like Adele..maybe more as a person and the success she's getting more than the music itself (w/ this specific album).

But I think without Spotify, I think Love Yourself will be the bigger hit. Could still be #1 the week the video is released - I would think that would give the song a huge amount of streaming plus the sales boost from the video release etc. I'm pretty sure that Adele's team will release the song to spotify though. Can't wait for Christmas to be over though and see this getting insane updates on AC. Can see this breaking the spin and AI record there (I think that belongs to Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" with 3,122 spins and 22.42 Audience).

I guess the Christmas music that has dominated for weeks now finally ends tomorrow at midnight then we have the year-end countdown lists so it will be interesting to see if Hello can hang on for a 9th or 10th week on the Billboard Hot 100. After Jan 1, I bet Taylor Swift's OOTW and Adele's WWWY catapult UP the Hot 100!
