Doesn't the video have to be classified by YouTube a certain way for it to count on the streaming charts? That Super Bowl ad with "Let Her Go" in it didn't count despite having ten of millions of views because...something. Ahh, you're right. If I recall correctly the video needs to be classified as "Music" for it to count towards streaming. The carpool video is classified "Entertainment" and therefore likely won't be considered. The cop dashcam video of Shake It Off was listed under "People & Blogs".

I have a feeling "Love Yourself" will climb to #2 and then #1 next week as airplay grows some more.

The carpool video is classified "Entertainment" and therefore likely won't be considered. The cop dashcam video of Shake It Off was listed under "People & Blogs". The kid dancing to Billie Jean wasn't under music either. There's no rhyme or reason to what billboard counts tbh. What really matters is the licensing. For example, jimmy Fallon lip sync battles don't count because the show licenses the songs that appear. Therefore, the owners don't have claim to make money off views on YouTube.

I think the current set up is looking good for Justin to be #1 with "Love Yourself" and then Adele to follow with "When We Were Young". By the time "When We Were Young" gets pushed properly (February), "Love Yourself" should be peaking in airplay and decreasing in points.

^ What's to say WWWY isn't being pushed "properly" now? Because radio DJs got a February promotional disk for the song - so that's when it'll be pushed. Not to mention it isn't on streaming services and doesn't have a video either.

I'm still not convinced "WWWY" is a threat for #1. I don't think it's going to #1 in sales or even airplay, and we can't yet really tell what its streaming will be like.

Hard to believe that "Hold It Against Me" (and 2011 in general) was five years ago. I was completely obsessed with it. It remains one of my favorites from her. On a similar note, I'm excited to be able to look at the flashbacks for that year as it remains one of my favorites.

The next song that debuts at #1 is going to make the "5 years ago" column feel so weird in about a month.

Name the #1 hits on Hot 100 by Britney is a pretty good question for a music quiz...

I didn't know "What's My Name" had such longevity. People always say it's one of her forgotten #1s but just yesterday I was at a day party and everybody was jamming hard! One of my favorite songs from her ever.

Am I the only one who's not convinced that WWWY would go to #1 when the video releases and the song goes to streaming? At the very least, I'm pretty sure it's not gonna be the internet breakage or instant #1 that Hello was. When Hello was released, Adele hadn't released anything since that Bond theme in 2012, and her new album hadn't been released yet. Now, almost 8 million people already own 25, and it won't really be a much-anticipated release like Hello was. People aren't gonna bother streaming it on Spotify all that much, since they've already bought the album. I'm pretty sure the song will do well, but not amazing like Hello did.

I don't think this "radio push" for "When We Were Young" is gonna do miracles. The song is already #15 at Pop radio and near the top 10 at AC and Hot AC. What more do radio PDs need to convince them to play it?

The 1981 chart really captures the state of Pop radio in the months before MTV launched. (Kind of like charts pre-Beatles). Think about the age of all those acts in the Top 10 (particularly 5, 7 and 10) and imagine why it was so easy for those of us gravitating immediately to MTV. Though LOTR is still a great song, but really.

The 1991 chart is quite interesting in terms of second hits of often wrongly considered one-hit-wonders...

The 1991 chart is quite interesting in terms of second hits of often wrongly considered one-hit-wonders... Namely Will To Power's 2nd single. Don't even remember it.

Hands To Myself wasn't released on radio? Yes it's doing quite well on Pop, just not quite enough to make the overall airplay chart yet. It's nearing 25m ai as of today and one of the top 5 most added songs at the format. Given SOL is still #1 in spins, this is really good stuff, as I'm assuming the official add date was very recent or is still upcoming.
