Don't judge me, because I am not an expert of charts, but how do the sales on almost every song stay so consistent? How can Stressed Out be with .2000 and .0900 of Love Yourself for almost a whole week? Isn't there just one hour that Stressed Out just doesn't get as much sales? How can these songs stay consistently good? How does the airplay stay consistent? I don't get it. I mean, like when Hello had those weeks of being #1 on sales, how didn't it just have one week where it got 87k sales or something like that? It feels almost like unreal. Someone explain, please. Well when songs are popular and people want to buy them, people tend to do just that, consistently. There isn't likely to be very many hours, days and especially not weeks when there's a random big drop in the sales for a song and then a return to "normal" after that, as if everyone just lost interest in the song suddenly for that period. Of course sales are influenced by such things as video releases and performances, but it didn't seem like you were asking about spikes with obvious causes like that. Did that make sense?

That and I think the iTunes charts and probably the others as well tend to account for periods of time that allow them to have smooth transitions between updates. I'm sure someone else can explain that better than I can though.

The iTunes chart is a rolling chart like the Mediabase charts I think, though I'm not sure what timespan it tracks. I read somewhere that it tracks the past week, though no one can really know for sure. But assuming it does, what that means is that it shows the top-selling songs of the past week, to the hour. So a song that went to #1 last Friday (but sold virtually nothing in the following days) would still show up in the chart today, then have a steep drop-off by tomorrow.

I think the rationale I saw someone use for the week-long chart was that a track that went album-only a week ago was still somehow on the chart six days later. But yeah, you're right, it could very well be a shorter timespan.

Just like OMI's "Cheerleader" to be one of the songs of the summer of 2015, is that true that Dawin's "Dessert" (which currently on BB Hot 100) will be one of the songs of the summer for 2016? If not, it will be the Top 40 hit by spring of 2016?

I never really understood the iTunes chart. Is it rolling?

So the more recent the sale, the more it counts toward the total. That way, songs don't have huge drop offs like the last Friday example because the sales from that period would gradually be made lesser as far as its impact on the chart is concerned. At least that's how I've understood it.

Both Justin Bieber and Adele are dry as a bone. I wish Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Rihanna will have their dramatic returns and Taylor Swift, The Weeknd will drop some even stronger songs and albums that will surely take down these kind of chart monopoly and take the industry back to 2011 the prime year of competition and drama. Have no idea why Justin Bieber and Adele have such good luck to be still that big. I thought their luck should have run out already 2011 is far from the prime year of competition and drama. 2011 had 14 number 1 hits. 2000 had 18. 1991 had 27. 1989 had 33 1977 had 29 The previous decades had much more competition.

Is it about competition, or just tabulation methods?

(Still remember 2 Justin Bieber songs ganged up and kept Cool For The Summer from top 10 last summer..)

I hope Same Old Love doesn't get blocked from top 5...it's by far my favorite song from her!
Also it would be very interesting if Justin Bieber takes the top two spots mere months after The Weeknd did it. Our impact :'(

Any explanation why When We Were Young and All I Ask have shot up on iTunes? Anyone know what the deal is with a video like this? I know the reason "Harlem Shake" got to #1 was because of the streaming points it gathered from everyone uploading their own videos with the song in it, despite it only being a 30 second clip or less most of the time. Will the various songs she performed in that video above receive the same kind of treatment? Curious to know since the video is approaching the 25 million mark...

On a more serious note, I think it's nice Roses has a good chance to make top 10 next week.

I THINK there was a minimum 30 second of song rule that was implemented a while after the Harlem Shake situation.

If the THriller video from a while gets it to like 14 or something crazy then this should help.

Doesn't the video have to be classified by YouTube a certain way for it to count on the streaming charts? That Super Bowl ad with "Let Her Go" in it didn't count despite having ten of millions of views because...something.

If I recall correctly the video needs to be classified as "Music" for it to count towards streaming. The carpool video is classified "Entertainment" and therefore likely won't be considered.
