Sheeran's continued reign is tough on Calvin Harris, whose fifth album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1 thus has to settle for a No.2 debut. It's very much a case of déjà vu for Harris, whose last album, Motion, sold 37,325 copies on its first week on sale in 2014 but was similarly denied top billing by Sheeran's x, and never managed to improve its position. Funk Wav Bounces opens with considerably fewer sales than Motion, with a combined tally of 19,913, including 7,416 from streams. With three consecutive No.1 singles lifted from it before its release, it's only natural that Motion fared better. Four of the 10 tracks on Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1 have already been released as singles but only the first - "Slide" (feat. Frank Ocean & Migos) - reached the Top 10 ahead of the album's release, with "Feels" becoming the second this week.

All five of Harris' regular studio albums have made the Top 10 with two of them reaching No.1 - 18 Months sold 52,356 copies when it debuted at No.1 in 2012, and Ready For The Weekend sold 36,308 copies when it opened at the summit in 2009. With sales to date of 923,861, 18 Months has sold more copies thus far than all of Harris' other albums combined.

Harris' previous high on the Billboard 200 was logged when his last studio effort, Motion, debuted and peaked at No. 5 in 2014.

Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 was released on June 30 through Fly Eye/Columbia Records and launches with 68,000 units, which is bigger than some had anticipated. Of the album's debut sum, 23,000 were in traditional album sales, 6,000 were in TEA units and 39,000 were in SEA units.

Nothing GROUNDBREAKING but it's a pretty solid vibey album. I appreciate the versatility and him switching up his style a bit.

Incredible Album. I used to think Harris was just generic pop but damn, songs like "feels" really hooked me into this new vibe. Shame it didn't do too well.

^It seems he may have actually surpassed label expectations though. I guess they were never really going for Chainsmokers/Khaled type numbers to begin with, especially since there was literally no promotion or video right up until the end.

It's probably my least favorite on the album now, Nicki and those android mosquito vocals ruin it. Calvin could have put a real singer over that beat and made a killer summer jam.
