I think people forget that, despite Beyonce's elevation to straight-up celebrity royalty the last few years, she's also completely shied away from caring about hit singles. Her last #1 was Single Ladies 7 years ago, and since 2010 she's only had one top ten hit at all ("Drunk In Love").
Meanwhile, congrats to Zayn -- I hope I am not just projecting myself into this situation, but I feel like this song may genuinely be connecting with people outside of his typical teen-pop fans, much like Bieber's last album has.

It increases exposure for Tidal. With each download, an offer is given for a 3 month trial of Tidal which ties a credit card, so if you're unscrupulous or just like the service, Tidal can turn those free downloaders into subscribers. Exactly, it's about getting people/fans to subscribe to a service that she's invested in. There's a big picture at play here that is more important than another big debut on the H100. This is money in Beyonce's pocket NOW and in the long run if she can get people to subscribe and pay a monthly premium. That's the whole point. Aside from that... it's usually just exclusive to Tidal for a week or whatever. If a song is meant to be a hit, it'll be a hit and will eventually be made available for purchase and streaming elsewhere, etc. Not everything has to happen in the 1st week! Our expectations for these huge debuts are getting a little out of hand and undermining what it means to be a real hit.

What about When We Were Young? Look for a nice boost from streaming on next week's chart (for the current tracking period which ends this Thursday). And then an even bigger boost the following week, which will include the Grammy performance effect and possibly the video. Have any figures been released for how its doing on streaming?

Is there a chance "Uptown Funk" could re enter the Hot 100 next week? It's currently num.10 on Itunes.

The weird releases are all tied back to Tidal. They're doing whatever they can to make Tidal happen because they have a stake in it. Katy, Gaga, Meghan and Ariana have no stake in Tidal, so we'll probably see more traditional releases from them this year

Can't it still chart if it places above 25? With all the sales, and the fact that it's been in the 30-40 range (Trap Queen debuted on recurrents below it), I wouldn't say it's impossible. We had David Bowie's tracks re-enter.

I wonder if Uptown Funk would still be on the Hot 100 if it wasn't for the new recurrent rule

The difference is that David Bowie's songs were completely off the chart and his death was the cause of the re-entry
In this case, Uptown Funk has been sitting atop the recurrent chart since it got bumped off the big chart. It is a sure bet though that it will be #1 on the recurrent chart for quite a while. Without the recurrent rule it likely would have never left the top 50

Uptown Funk was really screwed with the recurrent rule, that song even still after that chart dominance is still a jam
So how big will PILLOWTALK drop next week? To be fair the song is performing better than the recent 1D songs with big start but dies out quickly

I wouldn't be surprised if Pillowtalk drops out of the top 10 completely. Sales have nosedived to lower than the slowly fading LY and SO, and streaming has taken a huge hit as well. It's gonna take a couple weeks for radio to catch up. I expect it to have a rollercoaster of a chart run like Drag Me Down did.

If so, I would think a performance on the most highly viewed television event of the year that reaches nearly 1/3 of the country's population would count as that.

Does it need to have points more than its peak to re-enter the chart? It might need Harlem-Shake like streams or Hello like sales to re-enter.

I'm pretty sure it just has to have enough points to enter the top 50 (if before 52 weeks) or the top 25 (if after). This rule overall seems like such a gray area. Missy Elliot was able to re-chart from last year's super bowl, so maybe it will count this year. Work It and Get Ur Freak On managed to reach the 30s, and with Uptown Funk not nearly as dormant as those songs, I'm thinking it could just scrape into the top 25. I'm wondering if we'll see Viva La Vida back too?

I think the rule is different for newer songs versus older ones. The Bowie and Elliott songs were all really old, whereas "UF" is probably still considered recurrent. I doubt they allow it to chart next week, and honestly it makes sense because they don't want songs re-entering and falling off over and over (as in, if it fell off the chart after would it then get to re-enter again post-Grammys?). I don't know what the specific rule is regarding how long a song has to be off the charts to be eligible to re-enter, though.

Uptown Funk is still on the recurrents chart. Very unlikely that it's allowed to re-enter imo.

I know that all the circumstances led it to number one and two weeks ago he wouldn´t have been on top of the charts, but all these changes in Hot 100 formula has made the chart so much more exciting. But what a quality song and vocal performance so he deserves all of it! PILLOWTALK would have been #1 even under the old chart rules. Under new formula: PILLOWTAK - 267 - 17 - 22.3 = 49,950 Love Yourself - 110 - 141 - 16.0 = 39,650 Under old formula: PILLOWTAK - 267 - 17 - 22.3 = 48,730 Love Yourself - 110 - 141 - 16.0 = 41,040 The gap would have been slightly smaller..... that's all.

I don't remember. I thought only besting itself in any of the three matrixes can make a song eligible for re-entering

I wonder if Uptown Funk would still be on the Hot 100 if it wasn't for the new recurrent rule Of course..... it would have been in Top-40 the entire time. Last week, it was practically tied with "Lean On" in points.

As of this posting, it is not in the US Spotify top 50, but that might be because it hasn't been released long enough to be eligible for the ranking. If it is eligible though, then that's a major cause for concern.

As for the new formula, I'm confused between these two:
Sales/9 + Airplay/10,000 + Streams/1,200 or Sales/9 + Airplay/10,000 + Streams/1,100
I am 99% sure the formula is one of these two..... but which one? We need to wait a couple of weeks to find out.
