Work is EXTREMELY SIMILAR to the case of Royals (whose 1st week and 9th week lead are both EXTREMELY narrow) Work's first week wasn't narrow at all though actually it was. I remember them saying that it was close between LY and Work that week, and we all even thought LY would for sure be #1 that week

Now at least when people talk about the "Starships Record" the response can be to go "Love Yourself" ;)

Which is why weeks at #1 aren't necessarily indicative of one's biggest hits. It's all relative to what else is on any given H100 during any given week. All #1s are definitely not created equal. I'm curious to see how long it can hang around on the H100 - as that will tell more of the story in terms of how big it is compared to some of her others. yeah...I remember this guy on YouTube did a video of Lil' Wayne's biggest hits and he had She Will higher than How To Love just because of its peak and I was like...dafuq??? Pretty obvious HTL was the bigger hit because it was in the top 10 way longer and overall sold more and had more radio audience (since it had a bigger pop appeal and presumably some HAC appeal which SW obviously did not have) And some of the 90s diva songs that had healthy runs at #1 were not said divas' biggest hits. One Sweet Day and Take A Bow both come to mind. But yeah... comparing songs by their weeks at #(peak) is basic at best and very misleading.

I can't believe she passed The Beatles with such an awful-sounding song. But her name brand along with Drake's helped her get there, which lessens the significance of that milestone. It's basically an empty sex song where she repeats the same word over and over and sings inaudibly. It doesn't make her any better than The Beatles, though, especially with the difference of how music was consumed. I really hope this torture ends next week. "Panda" is no masterpiece, but it's still much better than "Work". If this ends up being the #1 song of the year, I'm prepared to call this a bad year for popular music.

I feel like the worst scenario for the #5-#7 just played out. I am mad about ITAPII getting blocked, but not mad at PILLOWTALK (since I like it a very tad bit more). Ugh, why couldn't I just have to be mad at Work From Home blocking ITAPII???

I predict Work falls 1-5 next week, or at least 1-4. I am prepared to say it will (thankfully) not be #1 on the year-end chart. Hell, it might not even make top 5. Its airplay is falling so hard already so it doesn't have nearly the longevity for year-end #1.

Can we just fucking get a rid of Work? 9 weeks is way too fucking much for that awful song. I would've rather had Panda get 9 weeks than Work get 9 weeks. I mean, Panda is way better than Work.
Urgh. I knew I had bad luck, but damn.

Last year Uptown Funk looked to be challenging OSD's record, then See You Again came out of nowhere and ended that. Now, 7 Years seemed very likely to dethrone Work, but Work managed to fend it off just in time for the streaming juggernaut that is Panda to soar into the top 10 and block it from the top spot.

I'm also starting to agree with the people who hope for faster turnover. It's getting boring seeing the same song #1 for a long time (I like Panda but I'm also probably going to get annoyed if it stays at #1 for more than 5 weeks). Maybe it's because the songs that are #1 for a long time are songs I don't like nearly as much as "Uptown Funk!" or "I Gotta Feeling" or "Blurred Lines" lol

With such a strong anticipation for "Panda" to be #1, seeing "Work" at #1 again feels too anticlimactic to me.

My accuracy is ~500 points, so if any two songs have a smaller gap in my projection, I don't make a definite prediction for the rank...... That's why I had all three as 5/6/7.

Damn, it's been a while since I have seen this much outrage in the Hot 100 thread after the top 10 reveal!

That just goes to show how chart performance doesn't necessarily equal quality. And while Rihanna may have had the same level of chart success as the Beatles do, doesn't necessarily mean she will be as beloved as the Beatles are as time passes. That said, I don't really mind "Work" all that much. In fact, I kinda enjoy it.

Damn, it's been a while since I have seen this much outrage in the Hot 100 thread after the top 10 reveal! It probably was even worse in winter 2013 when the you-know-what song debuted at #1 and if I was there the rage would've been way more severe than it already was xD I actually don't think I'd be that mad at Harlem Shake debuting at #1. It felt huge, deserved it :)

Cake By The Ocean's run reminds me a lot of Chandelier and Boom Clap, hovering in the 12-8 range, going in and out of the top 10, for a long stretch:
Cake by the Ocean 11-10-9-10-9-9-9-11-12-9
Chandelier 11-9-9-8-9-8-9-10-11-9-12
Boom Clap 11-10-11-12-10-11-10-8-11

Must've been the continued AI gains for CBTO. Speaking of which, with how close it is to #1 on pop it better get there! :(
